Mathias whips his boomerang toward the spider in what looks to be a solid but the spider crouches at the last possible instant and the weapon misses. As it works around the room on a return path Mathias hears the sickly sound of an arrow penetrating followed by the sizzle of burning flesh, the spider being pushed by the blow toward him, presenting an attack of opportunity for Mathias.
Mathias missed his first attack
Sylvantras's arrow struck true, dealing significant damage to the creature and pushing it toward Mathias.
Marion - stands firm in blocking the spiders possible advance on Sylvantras.
Mathias please take your AOO then we'll have the spiders turn.
The spiders flaming mandibles snap closed around Mathias' leg, 15 to hit for 3 pts of damage, as the fire quickly begins to burn through his high boot and pants please make a Con save DC 11.
From the rear of the spiders abdomen a fiery webbing shots out toward Sylvantras, 24 to hit, the webbing restrains him, pinning his bow to his chest and burning him for 3 pts of fire damage. Strength check DC 12 to break the webbing on your turn or take 3 more points of fire damage.
Despite the fiery webbing, Sylvantras maintains his focus on his hunter's mark as he tears himself free of the webbing and taking aim with his bow again.
*Concentration Check 17, Strength Save 20. Not sure if breaking free was my action or not, if not firing off another arrow - > AC 24 for 9 damage including Hunter's Mark*
*Just realized you asked for a Strength check not save, so that result would be 18 rather than 20*
Mathias words answered by the resounding "thunk" of an arrow sinking into spider flesh, then the pop and crackle of wood burning as the arrow ignites, Sylvantras has expertly snapped the flaming webbing and his arrow flying true.
The hulking spider releases it's bite on Mathias' leg and turns to face the arrow flinger, only to be met by Marion's spinning blade as it cleaves into the right side of the spider, Marion will take 3 pts of fire damage.
Mathias now free of the burning bite, the sickly sweet smell of burning flesh hanging in the air as he makes his way to his feet and swings his staff, hitting the spider in rear abdomen, cracking it like the shell of an egg.
The spider turns back to the book shelf gets two legs on it, raises a third to climb away and expires on the spot. The flames and heat slowly fading as it's life force spills out on the ground.
Mathias cuts away the pant leg, cleaning the bite, then rips the sleeve off his shirt and tightly wraps his injured leg. The burn hurts intensely but Mathias focuses on his two new companions and feels compelled to thank and encourage them, “The Joybringer’s blessing to both of you, I owe you my thanks that was rough, but we’ve made it thus far. I can already taste the brews we’ll be enjoying soon!”
medicine check to properly care for his injuries 19.
"A little singed, but nothing too bad."Sylvantras comments to himself before turning his attention to the bard. "Think nothing of it. We're all in this together."the elven ranger says beginning to search the room.
*Perception 11, Investigation 6, so he finds his own hands and that's about it...*
Years of waste and flames spread by the giant inferno spider have rendered most of the books and equipment here completely unusable. Your search yields two complete with an estimated worth of 20 gp, Fungus Among Us: Which Ones can I Eat and Sir Ikea's Guide to Piecemail.
Mathias you do find a third book, wrapped in exotic leather with expensive paper pages, it appears to be a spellbook. A quick arcana check and you have determined that it contains the spells Detect Magic, Identify and Arcane Lock.
There's still one last door, the one in the western wall of this room. Until we get to that room - Congrats! You have all gained enough experience to advance to second level. If you'd like to take a short rest then you may level your characters at this time, or, if you so choose, we can not take a short rest and continue to the next room at your current level.
"I have healing berries, if anyone needs some. Also, May I take the spellbook when you are done with it? I have been studying some magic and I feel inspired! I would love to write down all these ideas in my head!" Marion says brightly. *Short rest and level up, please!* *Second Wind to top off Marion's hp*
Sylvantras takes three of the offered berries as well. "Thank you, much appreciated."
Taking note of the items found, he adds "The books are certainly saleable, unless of course either of you are interested in keeping them."while browsing through the fungus focused tome.
Once the rest is complete, the ranger walks over to the door and listens - attempting to discern if there is anything moving or making any noises beyond.
The hour passes rather quickly, you all feel very refreshed and like you could take on the world.
If you keep the fungus book and study it, then will gain +1 to nature rolls for foraging in forest settings. The other will grant a +1 to armor tooling checks.
You hear nothing from the door, a quick check tells you it's not locked, however, as you touch the handle the door slowly swings open into the room, with a haunting creek from the aged hinges. As you peer into the room you can detect what looks to be the light of a single lite candle cast about the room.
When you decide to enter please let me know the marching order.
"Oh that's not creepy at all..." Sylvantras says sarcastically. He then draws his blades, looking over his shoulder he makes sure the others are ready.
*I'm happy to take point if that is the direction we would like to go.*
The door way is only wide enough for you to enter one at a time...
Sylvantras first - just inside the door you feet crunch on something, when you look down you see glass from what looks to be two broken potion vials, you kneel down slightly to read the partial labels, "tion of enlargement" on one and "Essence of fire ele." on the other. You quickly deduce that this is what happened to the spider you just killed. As you look up and around the door you see a large desk in this room. Upon the desk is a single candle burning, casting deep shadows around the room and on the figure seating at the desk...

Casting truestrike, then gripping his staff two handed he strikes at the spider, 11 to hit for 7 radiant damage.
then he calls to Sylvantras, “Let your aim be true, skewer this infernal threat!” Bardic inspiration.
