The map to find the Shield of Bahamut shows a wide view of Faerûn including a reference to a last to the far west called the Mystery Kingdoms. According to the map the shield was stolen from the Well of Dragons and hidden in the Star Mountains. To get to the Star Mountains from Phandelver there are three suggested routes.
The most difficult route would be through the Sword Mountains and the Kryptgarden Forest. This route would not allow for wagons or horses.
The second route would allow follow the High Road which runs from Neverwinter, Leilon, Waterdeep, to Draggerford. You would then follow Grayflow river to Secomber and up into the Star Mountains.
The third route is by sea from Neverwinter to Daggerford.
It all depends on your choice.

"I am glad to see you are alright, master Thagakh. I am anxious to be on our way as well, this place unnerves me," Tyrus says. He follows close behind Thagakh.
Ian agrees with the plan for Thagakh to avoid the barkeep. “I will want to return to Neverwinter after our trip to the Star Mountains. Droebol is making me something and I have obligations to him. Even if the High road is longer, I prefer that to the Sea. Ian is not the best swimmer. I am eager for adventure and battle plus I am curious about this shield for Tyrus. If Thagakh wants to get the horses and wagon ready, I will get the wolves and my gear.”
Still haunted by his nightly experience, Thagakh takes the first watch using his exceptional senses as he patrols the immediate vicinity of the camp for any signs of the barkeep.
On his way out of the inn, Tyrus holds his holy symbol toward the barkeep, glaring at her. "I know what you are," is all he offers before following after Thagakh.
Boghadair would have bought just 3 days of rations for 15 sp. After hearing that everybody has a shift on the watch, he wishes all a good night and falls asleep, keeping his bow in his hand, resting on his chest.
Being back in the wild has given the dire wolves a sense of independence and vigor. They accept the food and attention from Ian. They seem to be growing quite quickly and are not causing any problems. All that takes a night watch feel a great quiet in the night. No birds, bugs or any other sounds can be perceived.... only the breathing and snoring of the group. Morning comes without events.

OOC: Do we know the path to the Star Mountains, and do we have an estimate of how long that could take?

Thagakh slowly creeps downstairs as he looks warily to his left and right before eating at the table next to the Boghadair.
"Let's get out of here, who knows when will that barkeep sees Thagakh. That lady is too thirsty to be quenched."
The half-orc stuffs his face with food and drinks while bringing a few more as he goes outside.
"Thagakh will meet the rest at the wagon. Remember Boghadair, if the barkeep looks for me, tell her Thagakh went ahead earlier this morning, okay?"
(I thought we're using the second route from the start.)
OOC: Thanks for the reminder.

The barkeep skips through the bar making eye contact with Tyrus. “Away so soon..... I was hoping to have another night or should I say.... Knight.”

Leilon is 60 miles south along the High road. This is your first major town along your journey. That should take about 3 days travel on horseback.

There is a general store just before leaving out the south gate. You may make a list of what you are getting and follow the player's handbook prices.
