The space was, in fact, vacated.

One of the figures pops into sight, however, and blasts a ferocious torrent of icy air across the room, enveloping Khessa, the prisoner, Tristan and Naero.

Each must make a DC 14 Con save, taking 36 cold damage on a fail or half on a save.

Only one cultist has shown himself; everyone may act!

Khessa grits her teeth and contracts her muscles, resisting the sudden chill that was trying to penetrate her bones: "We're all cool enough already, thank you!"

The blonde arcane warrior drops the prisoner, who would otherwise hinder her, and covers the distance from the new threat in a few steps, this time brandishing her Greatsword and blocking the door again.

The tall adventuress makes the heavy blade dance in two quick slashes, one to the cultist's chest and another, more insidious, to his thigh.

Tristan:

Gritting his teeth against the cold, Tristan rushes the cultist caster alongside Khessa!  As he approaches, he swings twice with his crystal sword!

Crystal Sword slash:  Attack: 9 Damage: 14

On a hit, the target is sapped (disadvantage on next attack roll).

If the cultist is still up, Tristan calls out for Khessa to strike again (Commanding Rally, add 1d8 to damage on a hit)

Khessa's first swing misses wide, but her next swing looks to cut deep into the cultist's thigh...until an arcane sigil appears that her sword sparks off of. Tristan jumps into the fray, but his crystal sword only glances off the sigil as well.

Remember that, thanks to the Greatsword's Graze property, the 2 misses still did 4 damage each, for a total of 8.

Once again, Khessa notices Tristan's signal and takes advantage of it to try to overcome the enemy's defenses with a sudden lunge.

'This warrior knows his stuff when it comes to battle tactics!' the blonde arcane warrior thinks, pleased.

...or 4 if missed thanks to Graze property.

Once again, the sigil holds true as Khessa's greatsword only opens a small cut on the cultist's arm.

Ozus, Naero, and Larry may once again act.

Naero CON save 14

Naero 

Once again his quick reflexes allow Naero to dodge majority of the icy blast. He moves speedily across the room and launches with a flying kick at the robed man's chest following up with a number of punches, each aimed at vital organs. Once his limbs cease moving he retreats back to the north to allow his armoured companions room to engage.

M - Retreats 15ft to N (any Op Attacks at disadvantage)

Ozus lets out a cackle, slow clapping in mock amusement. "Thus the opening moves are made. But invisibility is a cowards tactic. Lets invite your friend to our little game. Ryjyid!"

The last word seems to curdle the air around Ozus, black smoke dripping from his body, glistening like an oil slick. The dark energy turns a deep red color before rushing over to the Southwest corner of the room, draping the area in an ethereal haze.

He strolls to the bottom of the steps, seeming unbothered by the present threat, humming to himself, weapon held lazily by his side.

Naero darts in, and the sigil stands no chance as he pummels the robed figure repeatedly. His fists keep finding purchase, until the cultist finally gets his hands up and the last flurry misses. The bottom corner now explodes in light as Ozus' spell takes effect, and the visible cultist is now bathed in a fiery light and stands out brightly in the dim room. The other cultist is still nowhere to be seen.

Larry frowns as the light splashes around him. "Splitting was a much better tactic.  No chance to run into each other, and both get free reign against their targets."

Dex Save: 23

As he speaks, Larry is holding his head down and squeezing his eyes shut, pointing roughly in the direction of the door to the North.

Edit:  I know he's not blinded.  Was intending to go for a bluff, here.  Failed to solidly indicate that.  Or roll.  Not that this is a strong suit for Larry.

Deception: 16

Now bathed in light, the cultist disappears in a flash of red light and black mist. He reappears in the middle of the room, and looks much the worse for wear, bleeding and gasping. He looks around, grinning a strange grin. This world will be consumed...The Whispered One shall rule all! He points down at his feet, and the room is filled with fire.

Everyone must make a DC 14 dexterity saving throw, taking 29 fire damage on a save and half as much on a failure.

The other cultist now appears, caught in the blast as well, but now firing off spells at Ozus, Naero, and Larry:
