The tiefling straightens up; "The Great Vault. Of course sir. My...my name is Payden Teedum. I'm Gavel Kreed's right...right hand man. I'm also in charge of balancing his books. Please come this way." He leads you down a hallway, past a boy playing.
The boy seems to ignore you as you pass. Eventually you are brought to a fine wooden door. Payden knocks and a voice answers. "What is it, I was about to go for a stroll." Payden explains; "It's the Great Vault; for you."
"Of course they are for me, why else would they be here? Come in, come in." The door opens and you see a rotund man with a whip.
Ethen sizes up the man before him, makes a slight bow, Gravel Kreed I am Taxmaster Ethen here on behalf of the great vault. The church understands you have a certain plaque that stands to have an adverse impact of your towns production. I've been sent to investigate and hopefully determine the source of said sickness. What can you tell me?
"The plague? Oh, yes, the plague. An annoyance. Hard to keep lumberers and enforcers working when they are coughing up their lungs." Sigh. He leans against his desk and it groans under his weight.
"Jarlben Trookshavits, he's the head of the lumber camp. He's supposed to know the answer to questions like that. Go talk to him."
Our thanks and, he presents his holy symbol, may your purse ever be full. He turns to leave. Catching Payden at the door, pulling his covering back over his mouth, where might I find this Jarlben Trokkshavits?
Directions are given and Payden escorts Ethen out. As you are leaving you overhear Gavel Kreed say; "Thank the Gods we didn't have to bribe them this time."
Nate Colborn is taken back by the wanton destruction… after a moment of speechlessness he asks, “Who takes a renewable resource a literal treasure and mismanages it so badly? This must be stopped it, it, it is horrible!”
Wiping a tear from his eye Nate gets a sudden thought, if I can save the darkwood, educate the community regarding supply and demand… I could literally become a Duke.
The lumberers and enforcers notice the group and gives them a not so pleasant greetings; mostly consisting of "Your not supposed to be here." And harsher things.
Ethen approaches the group casting thaumaturgy as he closes the distance to make his voice boom, PARDON ME! I am looking for one Jarlben Trokkshavits at the bequest of the Great Vault, are one you he?
Ethen, his voice normal again, the good church has a vested interest in resolving the matter of this sickness that plaques this town, do any of, looking particularly at the workers, know of anything that you'd like to share with the Master of the First Vault?
Addressing the workers, you think for a minute before speaking next or I'll see the your pay docked for a moon cycle.
Turning to the two humans, tiefling and hedge, my apologies for interrupting, would you folks be in town to help combat the plaque as well? If so, would you mind working together?
Hadriana isn't sure what to think of Ethen, but it does sound like he wants to help stop the plague as well. The druid has been told before that she trusts too easily.
"Yes, of course! We have a lead on a cure, but need help finding the ingredients. Milon Rhoddan is supposed to be the best guide around and we heard he's here."
ah, excellent and good work and the Great Vault thanks you, I'm sure our arrangement will provide mutual compensation.
Ethen turns back to the workers, you see, when we all work together everyone profits. Now, would one of you find working class folks be so kind as to direct us to this Milon Rhoddan?

Davrich, very somber at the sight of the destruction of his home, softly agrees.
"Indeed. The sooner we can get out of here the better."

Side note; drawing weapons and taking potions count as an item interaction (you get one per turn and can use them to open doors, move items, etc).

Ethen heads in the direction indicated.
Seeing all of the darkwood buildings, Vil shakes his head. "Seems like an awful waste to be building structures out of this stuff."
"Let's find this Rhoddan guy and get out of here before these lumberjacks decide to treat us like the trees..."
Ethan notices a group of people getting harassed by the local workers.
Ethen approaches the group casting thaumaturgy as he closes the distance to make his voice boom, PARDON ME! I am looking for one Jarlben Trokkshavits at the bequest of the Great Vault, are one you he?
The workers steps back in surprise and fear. One of the workers points towards a group of darkwood buildings. "He's...he's that way."

"Um...like what?" One of them asks confused.
Ethen looks at the others, do they look like locals?
There are two humans, a tiefling, and a hedge. It's uncertain if they are locals, but they definitely don't look like they belong at a lumber camp.
