Eltra, although old, has impeccable eye sight. He has watched bandit after bandit fail at everything they've tried. He wonders if this was their first attempt at banditry. Bandit after bandit falls to the ground. Eltra figured they would turn tail and run and was about to step out and offer them a surrender but he saw the smug grin on Todd's face. What an arse....Eltra doesn't like Todd
He whips up an Eldritch Blast for the smarmy bastard.
Attack: 24 Damage: 12
Indeed, NO ONE likes Todd. Eltra intuitively understands this - maybe its his age, maybe his warlock's charisma, but clearly Todd was in need of being struck dead. And struck dead he is- the eldritch blast hits him squarely in the chest, and for just a moment his expression goes from mild amusement at his would be companions' demise, to one of total disbelief and shock. You can almost hear his expression scream: "No! It can't be! It can't end like this! This isn't what I was promised! I was promised MORE!"
Except, of course, he says none of that, and the expression is gone just as quick as it arose, replaced by one of agony as he flips over backwards, landing face first in the dirt. No more will the resident of Faerun be bothered by the likes of Todd the Bandit.
There is a collective ripple of 'huzzahs' heard amongst the bandits - amongst their combined expressions at least. Of course, out loud, they say nothing, and their growing fear and panic returns to quickly overwhelm any satisfaction they briefly felt knowing they'll no longer have to endure the tyranny of Todd - despite the fact that he wasn't their leader and had no particular hold over any of them, his antics and blatant psychopathy made even the hardest of these murdering bandits uncomfortable - a fact that speaks volumes to the nature of the man that was Todd. Surely, he will awaken to find himself a Lemure shortly...
Paul, now fully awakened just in time to see that Simon, his brother-in-law, has had his head caved in by Hnefa, who is mere few feet away from him. Despite her imposing figure, he doesn't hesitate to attempt to extract his revenge. "How dare you!" he yells, and slashes at her with his drawn scimitar, but Hnefa deftly steps aside, and paul slices nothing but air.
Karl is now finally able to awaken himself, and rise to a standing position, looking around at all the carnage, blinking with confusion. He is unable to act, and seems on the brink of morale failure as the reality of the situation settles on him - when he was knocked out, all his allies were alive and well. Now? Their leader is dead, their de facto number two man is dead - heck, even TODD is dead, a fact that would normally make him smile, but given that he's likely to be next, a wet spot develops in his pants. He's trapped in by Hnefa and others. This is very, very bad for Karl.
Frank, though badly hurt, has already accepted his demise. He likely would not be able to run far in his condition, and given that the group he faces in battle are all on horseback, he'd not get far even if uninjured. His mother always warned him there would eventually be at least ONE day like this. And here it is.
"Argh!" he cries and slashes at Hnefa with his own scimitar. Given that she just stepped away from the one attack, she didn't have time to see the other coming, and it strikes her across her side. She groans in pain, but is far from mortally wounded. Now she has a new target for her wrath - a fact that is not lost on Frank. He gulps.
Galvanized by Franks success, Bill follows suit with an attack that rapidly follows Bills, also connecting, biting slightly deeper even. Hnefa growls - her combined inuries are starting to look very bad. Bill and Frank exchange looks as if to say - "We got this! We're doing really well all of a sudden!"
Larry, Bart, and Harry, in that order, and roughly at the same time, charge into Feydon with their scimitars. Larry and Harry connecting with two angry gashes across Feydon's upper thighs. Bart critically misses so badly that he fumbles and drops his sword.
Feydon, having been struck by scimitars on a routine basis going back to before he was 12, is clearly not pleased, but hardly shows signs of distress despite the seriousness of the wounds.
(OOC: Feydon takes a total of 14 slashing damage - its now the third round, and Gus's turn.)
Gus weaves his magic casting magic missile towards Larry, Bart and Harry. The blue white arcane darts striking their targets for 3, 3 and 2 damage in that order.
Larry, and Harry take their missiles well. Not, like REAL well, but they seem more or less ok. Bart, even though hurt no worse than Larry, combined with having dropped his weapon, is now in morale failure.
Feydon, seeing Hnefa is in distress, will Misty Step with his bonus action over to her location, then on arriving will upcast Ice Knife as a level 2 spell back towards Larry, Harry, and Bart, killing them all from the cold damage, even though it wasn't clear if it even hit.
Geren charges ahead on his horse, coming up behind Frank and Bill, and before Bill even realizes what's happening, he's been skewered by Geren's rapier +1 with sneak attack damage, killing him outright.
This is followed by Hnefa finally getting her revenge on Paul, smashing his head in for a whopping 17 bludgeoning damage. (and some cold damage I didn't bother to roll because dead is dead).
There are now only two bandits left, and both have panicked. The battle is effectively over. (though they are just going to stand there until killed, or specifically told they can go.)
(It's Dawn's turn if she want's to finish them off so they won't bother anyone again; or if you decide to make them drop their weapons and leave or whatever, then you can decide that as a group)
(OOC: Regardless of how you handle the remaining bandits - letting them go or killing them - you all get 400XP - 300 for 12 bandits at 25XP, and 50 for a bandit sorceress, and 50 for seeing through their ruse - you can all add it because it means a level up).
1 Dagger that Hnefa, Geren, and Dawn notice to be of exceptional quality.
a small pouch of gemstones - 3 bloodstones, 2 moonstones, 3 pearls, which Geren estimates to be worth ~400-500 gold total from the right buyer. Probably loot collected from other targets.
54 gold, 156 silver between them all, on their persons.
a small, locked chest. (probably also loot that was stolen).
1 key (on the sorceress / distressed woman ... wonder what it opens....)
Obviously it opens the chest, and inside there is another 325 gold, 400 silver, and some silver and gold jewelry - several rings, and necklaces, probably worth 25-30 gold total.
An arcane focus on the woman in the form of an Orb
26 rations
13 waterskins (full)
2 Thieves kits
13 bedrolls
3 sets of playing cars
2 sets of dice
1 vial of ink
8 sheets of paper
1 ink pen
1 journal - the woman's diary of sorts, filled with records of groups they'd successfully mugged or killed (it outlines a lot of unarmed travelers, and a few small merchant caravans that were poorly defended)
1 Covered Cart / small wagon that is relatively undamaged - it was just made to look like it was. In the wagon you also find some assorted arms and armor including
Taken together, its clear that the group has put a stop to an operation that had been preying on vulnerable targets long enough to collect as much valuables as they had - for bandits, its a considerable haul.
Eltra rides over to the two remaining bandits (15 feet away)and shouts to them "Listen her lads....Drop your weapons and sit where you are. We have some questions for you and depending on your honesty and answers, we will let you live."
Feydon, limping from his wounds but otherwise show no evidence if distress, limps back to his horse that he misty-stepped off of, and gets back on, letting you all handle the loot and the bandits. With the danger passed, he's under no obligation to help you haul loot unrelated your task and is under no illusion that he's going to get a share of anything. He doesn't even stick around to see what was in the chest. He waves away any attempt to attend to his injuries (though he can't stop you), isntead pointing at Hnefa. Indeed, she's not going to die, but she took a rough beating. (OOC: relative to her total health, she was at like 35 % health before she raised a level, now she's not much worse than Feydon is but still worse with her new level, though, it dilutes the damage enough that it's no longer more than half her health. Feydon is at ~70-80% health by the look of him)
Eltra rides over to the two remaining bandits (15 feet away)and shouts to them "Listen her lads....Drop your weapons and sit where you are. We have some questions for you and depending on your honesty and answers, we will let you live."
The bandits have already dropped their weapons, but they do as you ask, sitting down.
"Please, sir gnome, we don't know anything - we're just... desperate," cries Karl.
Frank, badly shocked from Bree's sorcerous bolt, isn't able to say much. But he nods along with Karl, and manages to say; "Please... mercy."
