Please post any questions here or via PM
Create the character you want to play. Keep in mind that species outside of the common species (i.e. human, elves, dwarves, halflings and gnomes) tend to be viewed with suspicion or even fear in some parts of the world. But that doesn't mean they do not exist in this Greyhawk.
How do you want the stats to be? Roll (dropping 1s or something like that)? Point buy? Is there any race not allowed. For example, I may be interested in a changeling. Would that be possible?

Hi Fairlthilien, Thank you for your question. Please use one of the three methods outlined in the rules for your abilities (I have updated my original post above). You can roll on here if you go for random generation.

Name: Tanser Ricklefeckle Race and Class: Hill Gnome Wizard Ability Score Generation: Standard Array
Tanser was born in Steaming Springs in the Cairn Hills and has lived there all of his life. His family were tinkerers and stonesmasons, like everyone else in his village, and Tanser was happy doing the same until the incident, which changed his life forever. While walking home from the mines with his father and some of the other villagers, a Half-Orc Wizard and his henchmen pounced on them. The villagers and his father fought bravely, but Tanser was terrified and hid and watched as his father and friends were razed from the Wizard's magical fire spells. The impression that was stamped on him that day was that he could not defend his family and friends if he didn't know how to counteract the magic that killed his father. As he shamefully left his hiding place to get a closer look at the horrific damage that was done to these innocent people, he vowed that he would learn all of the arcane secrets that he could and focus on counteracting magic. That was the point when his love-hate relationship with magic began. As he kneeled down to cradle his dead father's head in his lap, he swore that he would become the greatest Wizard ever and would seek vengeance on any Orc and evil magic-user that he came across.
He went home to report the news to the other townspeople, then packed up his belongings and kissed his mother goodbye (his brothers and sisters would provide for her in the mines and their tinker shops). He felt shame again that day when he walked away from the grieving widow that was the light of his life, but he could not look her in the eyes again until he had cleansed himself of the stain of cowardice.
Tanser marched to the City of Greyhawk and sought to be an apprentice of any Wizard that would take him but was turned down by every school. They could see that he was not talented like the other students they mentored and taking on a student who was bound on vengeance without skills was a dangerous and foolish proposition.
After searching for days to find someone to take him in, he came upon an altercation in the street. A group of 3 Wizards were picking on a Gnome, taunting him and trying to pick a fight. The Gnome was calm and appeared unconcerned. Then, one of the bullies pointed his finger at the gnome and 3 magic darts flew through the air at the solitary creature. Tanser froze in horror as he waited for the magic missles to hit the Gnome, but the "victim" was not helpless at all. With a wave of his hand, a magic shield appeared out of thin air and caught the missles. The Gnome counter-attacked by making a bonfire appear under the bullies' feet, causing them to jump up and down and run away with their clothes on fire. Tanser did not know it at the time, but that was the day he started down the road of the School of Abjuration.
Tanser ran after the other Gnome and his mouth could not keep up with the words that were trying to come out, as Tanser begged and pleaded with the other Gnome to teach him the ways of his magic. The other Gnome smiled and introduced himself as Gaflon. "Come with me. I will talk to my Master. Tell me, young Tanser. Are you ready to work?"
And work he did, toiling under the most unforgiving and intolerant Wizard imaginable. Vasinoth was a Human Master of the School of Abjuration and a slave driver. But Tanser never complained. After 6 months of manual labor, Vasinoth allowed Gaflon to teach him a few cantrips. Both Tanser and Gaflon were shocked how well he picked the spells up and how well he cast them. Tanser wanted more. Begrudgingly, Vasinoth opened the doors to his library to Tanser, and he finally felt at home. After finishing his chores during the day at breakneck speed, he ran to the library and read everything he could, hardly sleeping and eating at his desk.
The day had finally come when Tanser finished his apprenticeship and he bid Vasinoth and Gaflon farewell, and went to look for adventure, experience....
Would a lineage character be permitted? I have a Hexblood Paladin I'm hoping to find a new campaign for. Mistrust and fear of her would be fine as that has always been part of her backstory.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Name: Tilvus (no last name)
Species: Tabaxi
Class: Rogue, will build into Soulknife probably.
Ability Scores: Ability scores: 16121611913
Background: Criminal
Backstory (hidden for length):
Tilvus was born at a very young age. Obviously.
His parents died quite early in his life, due to circumstances that Tilvus never understood or found out about (DM can decide what happened here and tie in with story if they want; I don't have anything in mind). Tilvus was left alone, young, and scared in the city. Despite incredible odds, Tilvus managed to survive. Not through honest means, of course; he learned to steal, lie, cheat, and kill from a very young age, aided by his affable nature and charisma. That life became natural to Tilvus, and made him quite appealing as a recruit for the local thieves guild. Eventually, Tilvus managed to secure a comfortable living, and a solid reserve of money to fall back on.
Of course, however, that kind of living doesn't last. In a routine assassination, he was careless and was caught before he could escape. All of a sudden, he found himself barred in a jail cell and was nearly executed; only his quick feet and clever escape saved him that fate. Tilvus hated the feeling of being disarmed, defenseless, and weak. Thus, he aspired to never be under such circumstances again. He perfected his craft and methods of stealth, deception, and subterfuge. However, he still wasn't satisfied. He wanted power; not only through his own vessel, his body (though that was important as well), but also over others. He wanted money, a title, and a safety net to fall back on.
He soon got his first taste of said power, with his rising to the top of the thieves guild, and said power became an addiction. He enjoyed control immensely, and sought out to increase his influence. Thus, he set out on this journey to Greyhawk City, hoping to
Looking to play a CE character for this one, but totally willing to rework. My character would be cunning, and willing to work with and even manipulate good players to suit his needs. He enjoys power for power's sake, knowledge for knowledge's sake, and doesn't really care about deaths of others. He doesn't really enjoy hurting others , he just doesn't care. Tilvus would be affable and friendly, with a high Charisma stat, and generally cooperative--but constantly trying to push his own agenda and become more powerful and/or influential in the world. I would specifically make a conscious effort to not be a disruptive or bad player in general; that includes needlessly killing NPCs (he cares about his reputation), hurting or sabotaging the party (they're helping him get what he wants). Something he might not do would be going on adventures without a personal incentive (if it's the "right thing to do), though an important distinction is whether other people are watching (again, reputation). I think I've pretty much outlined the roleplay style I would use with my CE player. Again, if you aren't okay with this (which I totally understand), then I'm totally willing to rework Tilvus.
Stories of changelings replacing mortal children are common—parents raising them unknowingly, only to cast them out in horror when their true nature emerges. But Aisling’s story was different. Her replacement was not an accident—it was arranged.
The trueborn heir of an elven noble family had been cursed, doomed to wither before reaching adulthood, marked by unseen forces for a fate too terrible to name. Desperate to save their lineage, the grieving parents sought out the fey and begged for a miracle. The fey answered, but their bargains are never kind. Their child would be spared—but another must take their place. And so, Aisling was given to them, a perfect imitation of the infant they wanted to save, bound to a doom never meant for her.
For years, Aisling lived in the noble household, aware that she was not their blood but never knowing the full truth. Yet the curse had not been undone—only redirected. It clung to her like a shadow, whispering in her dreams, gnawing at the edges of her soul. Servants made warding signs when she passed. Animals recoiled from her touch. And at night, she could hear a voice calling from beyond the veil of reality, distant and cold.
Then, the truth unraveled. Perhaps it was guilt, or an unguarded whisper, but one of her "parents" finally spoke the words she was never meant to hear. She was not their beloved daughter. She was a sacrifice. A living shield against a doom that had never been hers. The knowledge cracked something deep within her, and in that moment of despair, the frost sweeped in.
Like a winter wind slipping through a cracked door, the Prince of Frost murmured her name. His voice was patient, glacial, inevitable. He had been watching. He understood. He offered her a choice—not salvation, but power. Power to shape her own fate. Power to wield the cold that had haunted her all her life. But the fey never give without taking.
Since that night, magic coils around Aisling like a shroud of ice, its touch sharp and unforgiving. Her presence is ever marked by the frost and decay of her patron’s influence. Even her changeling gift, the fluidity of her own form, is no longer fully her own—no matter what face she wears, something always lingers. A fragment of ice in her eyes, the shimmer of frost on her breath, a detail that does not belong. A mark of the Prince of Frost, a reminder that she is his.
Aisling left the home she never truly belonged to and now walks alone in a world that has never welcomed her kind, with cold and decay lingering at her heels. Will she ever reclaim her own fate, or is she forever bound to a destiny not of her making?
I screwed up and my die roll post ended up being labelled as manipulated (and my AMAZING rolls replaced with still really nice ones). Instead of trying to justify the post labelled manipulated, I deleted it. Went from an 18,17, 16 though to 11 to a 16 through to 13. Both sets were CLEARLY beneficial, but that whole manipulated label meant there was no reason to trust the numbers. And so the post is deleted.
I LOVE me some Oerth, though.
Cleric or Champion of Istus? Of Wenta? Olven archer follower of Solonor Thelindira? One of the wide variety of Roges/Thieves that the Free City of Greyhawk seems to spawn from thin air? Rhenee? I was going to take the dice rolls and find a build. Guess I'll try to pick a build and then worry about attributes to match.
Sal grew up in Saltmarsh, the son of a fishmonger. He spent much of his early life in the kitchen with his mom where he learned to make her famous fish and chips. When he was a youth his dad retired and his parents opened a small local fish and chips shack. He spent his early adulthood as a line cook, but always had dreams of more.
His life changed the day Captain Xendros came into the store. The Iuzian quartermaster got to talking about opening a franchise in Greyhawk City. His parents refused, but Sal's interest was piqued. He struck a deal with Xendros, taking a loan and striking out for the city. He opened "Salty's Finest Fried Fish" in the city and had some immediate success, followed by an Iuzian representative came in with a barister to inform him that the property, recipe and name of the restaurant was property of the Quartermasters of Iuz and that he must hand over his life's dream to the greedy devils.
Now, down on his luck, Sal has turned to a life of odd jobs, scrounging, and adventuring to get by. Too embarrassed to return to his hometown without making a name for himself.

Born in the South-Eastern corner of Celene, and raised in a typically isolated Wood Olf settlement, Craes is far more at home in the wilderness than in crowded urban settings. While he never really learned a great deal of the details, he was taught early to revere The Seldarine. As he grew more and more comfortable in the role of outdoorsman and hunter, he found the little of the religion he paid attention to aligned hm more with Solonor Thelindira than the rest of the pantheon. Providing for his neighbors and protecting them from their enemies simply felt right.
A wood Olf community is never short of hunters and Celene stands firm against her enemies, so there wasn't really a lot of either that needed doing at home. And there was this great forest just a short walk away, so Craes took to wandering, looking for a place to establish himself as an individual serving the community as Solonor directs, and not just another child of the village. The prejudice against him in the Gnarley Forest, where he was seen as an agent of Celene come to claim the Gnarley for his Queen, pushed him on to further wanderings. He reached Dyvers, but was unwilling to secure his weapons, pay homage to the guilds, and pay the licensing fee to keep the weapons, so he kept going. While outside Dyvers, he heard of the heroes who have used the Free City of Grehawk as a base, so he continued heading East, wondering if he could find that kind of opportunity to serve and protect others. He also started hearing rumors that enemies he had been told of during his childhood, such as the Drow, could actually be out in the world. Such evil needs to be sought out and eliminated.
This quick sketch ends with Craes approaching The Free City, filled with hope for his future.
