Dagna tells the others about the Barrelstalk. "We'll need all the food and water we can get down here," she says with a sigh, taking a much needed seat against the wall. She looks through her backpack as well.

Karys rubs circulation back into her wrists and gives her manacles to Edwin. Then she too sits down on the ground and rummages through the backpack she took.

"That's good to know," she remarks to Dagna. "You're right. It's not going to be easy. We should be careful with how much we eat, try to make every bit last."

Besides the rope she already found (50ft), Dagna also finds 2 days of rations, caltrops, waterskin, and a bedroll in her pack.

Karys finds no rations, but yet another 50ft coil of rope, a tinderbox, waterskin, crowbar, and bedroll.

You're able to find 7 gallons of water and 7 pounds of food from the barrelstalk.

(Food/Water rules:

A character needs one pound of food per day and can make food last longer by subsisting on half rations. Eating half a pound of food in a day counts as half a day without food.

A character can go without food for a number of days equal to 3 + his or her Constitution modifier (minimum 1). At the end of each day beyond that limit, a character automatically suffers one level of exhaustion.

A normal day of eating resets the count of days without food to zero.

A character needs one gallon of water per day, or two gallons per day if the weather is hot. A character who drinks only half that much water must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or suffer one level of exhaustion at the end of the day. A character with access to even less water automatically suffers one level of exhaustion at the end of the day.

If the character already has one or more levels of exhaustion, the character takes two levels in either case.

You are able to take a long rest without any interruptions.

Dagna casts mage armor as soon as she wakes up, feeling a surge of relief with her spellbook in hand. (Her AC is 15 for 8 hours). She will also take an hour to ritual cast find familiar if we have time (takes 1 hr 10 minutes) to conjure a bat.

Edwin:

Adding a bundle of torch stalks to his drow backpack, Edwin wakes up early and stands his watch as planned.  He feels much better after the long rest.

As others wake, he continues to look and listen for trouble, taking a break to familiarize himself with the Drow Longsword.  When all are ready to proceed, he suggests they continue at a normal pace.

(Yes, Nacht will be able to feed 6 people per day pretty easily, but you'll need to forage for the rest once rations run out. Dagna is able to cast her bat with no issues.)

Dagna agrees with a normal pace and stays in the middle of the group, sending her bat familiar ~50 ft ahead to scout and report back to her if it spots anything.

Everyone packs up and begins traveling again. The trail isn't any easier...rough terrain, ledges, sharp rocks, and alien vegetation are ever present.

Soon, there's something barely perceptible that puts a terrible knot in your stomach, and as you continue on, the knot tightens. Soon you hear nothing but shrieks, moans, and wails echoing up and down through the cavern tunnels. There's absolutely no way to tell where these horrid sounds are coming from, and after a few hours, incoherent gibbering begins to accompany the sounds as well.

Shrieks and gibbering are nothing unusual to Nacht. It draws its blade and prepares to strike.

The sounds are little more than an annoyance to the wizard. She looks to the Kuo-Toa with exasperation as the gibbering continues. "Is this the tongue of your people?"

Edwin:

”They are all around us!” says Edwin, looking around with a wild look in his eye.  Hearing a sound behind them, he races forward!

A moment later, he races back past, saying, “They are up ahead too!”

The kuo-toa watches Edwin with mild interest. No...this is gibberish. Though my people are known for madness. He shakes his head sadly. That is why I must get back to them. I hope to teach them the ways of peace and enlightenment. You may call me Shuushar, by the way. I do not believe we have officially introduced he says, bowing slightly.
