when you say no 1 level dips.  Is this an ongoing campaign.   If yes then a character could be 2/1 if planning to take that 1 higher correct?

Actually, I do have a question on sources. While Artillerist does work really well for my concept, I doubt the idea I have with the cannon would work with the rules in place. Letting Homunculus servant carry around the tiny cannon, allowing her toys to fly around shooting shit.

If I can't do this, I found a really good subclass which uses toys and dolls, and thought it would work for the build. I put it on a Google document here. Could I potentially use it? I can either port it to DnD Beyond or just use DiceCloud.

I only have one question. 

Is that subclass in a book or is it a homebrew? 

2/1 with a plan on taking it to 2/2 or 3/2 is fine. I just don't want to see Fighter5/rouge1/bard2 on 8th lvl for the 20th time.

It's in a homebrew collection. Which is why I'm against using it.

In regards to the build, I'm fairly sure I can mechanically make my idea work? I'd just need to, like ... specifically make the dimensions for the servant and the cannon in order to work with the weight lifting rules.

Honestly do whatever you think is fair. I'm not too worried about people trying to make OP characters. Most people wanna have fun. (oh, most people wanna have fun)
