Now that we have used a few tooltips in our tale, I noticed something odd.
The tooltips link back to the 2014 version of things. Since we are using the 2024 version of things ... even if a tooltip lists the 2014 version ... the 2024 version is what was intended.
I don't think it would cause too much confusion, but just in case I wanted to get ahead of it with a preemptive ruling.
In the current scene, for example, Gooterat cast the spell, blade ward, but the tooltip links back to the 2014 version (and he cast the 2024 version).
If you want to link to a 2024 tooltip, you can. spell just becomes spells instead (like blade ward). Same goes for other tooltips with plurals
Hey gang, Zepharion's player has withdrawn from the tale.
I'm not a fan of DMPC's so I'll be NPC-ing Cass and Zepharion to the min extent possible and will remove them from the tale at the earliest in-game opportunity.
Alaric is not the most perceptive (+0). He is marginally better at investigating (+3). If it isn't too late for us to escape, the quickest way to remove them is to have them creeped out enough that they just leave. It isn't really in character for Cass though
As I'm sure you guys are all aware, tempo management can be a tricksy thing here in PbP-land. Too slow and the game might stagnate and die. Too fast and players might burn out, with some folks left feeling like they are unable to keep up and/or meaningfully contribute.
Mostly, I am very comfortable with a pace of about 2-3 posts per week. Sometimes a bit more than that.
Here is the old SvA formula for the posting frequency I would like to maintain:
Every story-post I make will have an unofficial 'two-day' clock. Meaning, If I post something that sets the scene or bumps the story ahead in some fashion ... everybody will have two solid days to respond.
Example: I post on Saturday evening. Well, then you guys will have all day Sunday and all day Monday in which to post. I won't bump the story along until all players have had a chance to respond. After the 'two-day' clock elapses, however, I reserve the right to move the game along in some fashion ... even if we still have players who hadn't chimed in yet.
[It's been my experience that PbP games, not unlike sharks, require some forward momentum at all times or they die]
Sometimes, I will be able to post in the early AM. If that is the case ... I count that calendar day as one of the two days.
Example: I post early Monday morning (EST/EDT). Well, then you'll have all day Monday and all day Tuesday to craft a response, and you can expect a story post from me on or after Wednesday of that week.
When I say 'story post' I mean something that substantially changes the scene (or sets a new one). A post that gives you guys something new to react to, interact with, etc.
If it isn't a story post, I might post inside of the 'two-day' without necessarily waiting for everyone to respond. What do I mean by this? Things like an NPC answering a PC's question, or a quick one-liner that lets a player know the results of a skill check or something. Posts like those will not count against (or reset) the 'two-day' clock.
A little about me and my availability. I travel a lot for work and although 2-3 posts per week will generally be the target, sometimes 1-2 posts per week is about all I can manage. If I see a delay like that shaping up, I'll try to be up front about it so that you guys aren't left wondering if I have ghosted the tale or not.
TL;DR — So, to sum up ... from here on out, you guys can expect a post from me that will occur when either of the following things are true:
a) All players have responded in the IC, or b) Two days have passed.
@Alaric, @Gooterat, @Shinrei ... you are up! The actions will be summed up in init order, but you do not necessarily have to wait to post in init order.
@Rats ... I'd like you to hold off posting actions until the opponents have acted.
Once we get those first three turns out of the way, the posting cycle will end up looking like this:
05 - Rats (end of the previous round) 21 - Alaric (start of the next round) 20 - Gooterat 13 - Shinrei [all four players post their actions]
12 - Silver Bugs 09 - Zepharion [I sum up the results pf the PC's actions and post/sum up the opponents' actions as well] [we repeat as necessary]
I don't mind if folks include their rolls as part of an otherwise existing post, but you guys don't have to make a standalone post just to tell me that a roll has been made.
Since Gooterat retreated back toward the rest of the fellas and asked for help … I have no issues with Alaric taking an action during this initial round (even if his init count occurs prior to Gooterat’s).

Sorry to see you go EmileTherese, and thank you for the heads up.
I hope things smooth out for you.

After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
Wow, thanks!
And then there were four ...

Gooterat is proficient with thieves tools, so he can help there, but may need another set of eyes to help find traps and such.

Starting tomorrow I'll be on vacation for about a week, gang.
I likely won't be able to update the tale until I get back.
Hope you have a wonderful trip :)
Hey hey, gang! Back from my vacation.
Still need a day or so before I'll be ready to dive back into our haunted house tale, but I did want to let you know that I am still around.
So far as anyone knows, yes.
Laurie and Gennifer Weathermay-Foxgrove, Cassian, and Zepharion are in the parlor.
Welcome back, DM. Hope you had a fun trip!
Thanks, it was.
Our first encounter, gang. An undead rogue and the silver bugs that ate his face!!!!
Happy hunting!
I know it can be a bit weird, starting an encounter that not every PC is aware of yet.
I'd like to hold off on posted actions and set the init order first.
Once we have an idea of what the init order looks like, the encounter can begin to unfold.

(I see all the rolls in the dice roller)
With Alaric up first, I asusme he can't do anything as he is unaware of the threat before Gooterat goes?
