I have added a language to everyone's character sheet: Vaasi. This is just a renaming of the slot used for Common.
Common (from the Forgotten Realms) = Vaasi. It is spoke in Nova Vaasa (which originally hailed from the FR before being absorbed into Ravenloft) and most of the southern lands of the Core.
@EmileTherese, since Cassian is a native of Ravenloft I have added two languages (Vaasi and Mordentish). Mordentish is the language spoken in the western — and some would say more civilized — lands of the Core.
---
Also, each character will begin the tale with Heroic Inspiration marked.
I took starting gold in lieu of equipment. I bought studded leather, light crossbow and bolts, quarter staff, dagger, flute, backpack, journal, ink and pen, parchment, lamp, oil, tinderbox, rations, and Waterskin.
Also, each character will begin the tale with Heroic Inspiration marked.
The humans in our group get heroic inspiration at the end of each long rest. In addition Alaric has the following feature from his background which means we should have a decent amount of heroic inspiration to go around
Encouraging Song. As you finish a Short or Long Rest, you can play a song on a Musical Instrument with which you have proficiency and give Heroic Inspiration to up to 2 allies who hear the song.
Gooterat bought some fine clothing tailored to his twig like frame. He favors dark or deeply stained colors. His finery includes black trousers with black leather boots and matching belt. His shirt is basic but of fine quality. Over that he wears a midnight blue vest with silver buttons. The vest contains several small pockets sewn into the inside. A fashionable matching blue hat adorned with a raven feather rounds out his going out ensemble. He travels in the regular more mundane attire, but the items are well made and kept meticulously clean.
^^ Sounds good. Thanks guys. I've made those changes on my off-site sheets.
Now that we have begun play, any further adjustments will need to happen in the IC.
For the folks that had any other coins besides gold coins ... I just removed them and gave you one more gold coin.
(Whenever I helm tales like this, I just use gold coins to cut down on the bookkeeping. When we get to a point in the tale where spending money becomes a thing, and need to figure out fractions of silver and copper ... I'll just round up or down to the nearest gold coin)
In the IC, the Laurie and Gennifer are speaking Vaasi, which will be the common tongue of our tale.
The folks from the Forgotten Realms understand the language, although they do not call it Vaasi. Back on Toril, this language is called Thorasta (it is your common tongue). In the FR there is a land called Vaasa and in Ravenloft, there is a domain called Nova Vaasa ... which was originally in the FR before being drawn into the Demiplane of Dread. So that is how your language migrated to this land.
There accent is a bit weird, and the names (Laurie, Gennifer) are certainly new ... but you can understand one another.
...
Cassian has heard of the twins. Renowned monster-hunters from Mordent, a domain that borders Cassian's native domain of Richemulot.
Mordentish is the common tongue in both of those lands (Mordent and Richemulot), but there is no Forgotten Realms equivalent.
Now that we have used a few tooltips in our tale, I noticed something odd.
The tooltips link back to the 2014 version of things. Since we are using the 2024 version of things ... even if a tooltip lists the 2014 version ... the 2024 version is what was intended.
I don't think it would cause too much confusion, but just in case I wanted to get ahead of it with a preemptive ruling.
In the current scene, for example, Gooterat cast the spell, blade ward, but the tooltip links back to the 2014 version (and he cast the 2024 version).
Hi everyone! I'm really sorry, but due to real life issues I have way less free time now, so I'm going to have to drop this campaign. I enjoyed playing with all of you and apologies again.

Are we allowed to do some buying/selling ooc? Cass' class/background combo gives him a lamp but no oil -.-;;
Yes, that would be fine.
If folks would like to spend some of their starting coin, they may purchase items listed in the PHB.
Just let me know here in the OOC.
Once we get past this introductory scene, however, any gear/coins carried will be 'locked in' as it were.

After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)

Zepharion sold his leather and purchased studded leather. He also picked up more ball bearings and a hooded lantern.

In the current IC scene, the pair of women are bringing adventuring gear and other sundries inside the manor.
(The stuff is going in, not coming out. In other words, it doesn't appear to be an act of looting.)
Oh! Ok, will edit my post -.-;;

@Ashen_Age, I'm unclear on what Shinrei's persuasion skill check is hoping to achieve. Can you clarify a bit?
I think we cross-posted. I wasn't sure Persuasion was needed. I only added it in case you were looking for one. Please disregard otherwise :).
^^ Can do.
Cass also has a lamp lit. And he asked a question (not sure if you didn't see it or the twins are being tight-lipped).
I missed both of those, apologies.
Lamp --- lit!
Answer --- ghosts!
Went down a bit of a rabbit hole for the latest post.
Re: Alaric casting a ritual spell.
At first I scratched my head ... 'that is not something warlocks can normally do.' I thought.
But, after said dive into the rabbit hole ... I stand corrected ... everyone can use ritual spells now (as long as the spell is prepared).
Still grokking the nuance between 2024 & 2014 rules.
