“Let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen the nightfall.” — Elrond
The door opened far enough to see a beautiful woman in armour with auburn hair. The Burgomeister? Then you don't know, he's dead. Vampyr spawn overcame him and left him for dead. Isak and I found him in the morning in his study. It's been 3 days now and we wait to see if he is cursed with undeath. The coffin is in his favourite sitting room. How can you help? The townspeople are so afraid that they won't even come here to give their respects.
Yes I am Ireena the Burgomeisters adopted daughter. Show me those letters, she takes them from Illmirth and reads them. The hand these were written in look odd for father, but it does bear the village seal, that of Prince Strahd Von Zarovich. He is right I have been bitten twice, can you remedy that? Do you have a way of stopping the curse before the Vampyr visits here again? I thought that holy water on the bites might help, but I have none and the local priest does not wish to anger the beast.
Thin white brows furrow quickly as he glances back to his companions. The local priest is unwilling to help her out of fear???
He glances to Murdock and Crisaryn, recalling that they had made a trip to the temple in Daggerford.
"My companions are clever and strong in their faith. If aid is available, it most likely stands before you now." He says softly, compassion in his eyes.

Ireena opens the door wide, her eyes large at the pendants of Lathander that Murdock and Lorelei wore. Come in before the Townsfolk cause a scene. I'll take you to the dead Burgomeister and you can say whether it is good to bury him. I wanted to take his head just in case, but Ismark stopped me. The bite on my neck is enflamed and seeps black blood.
The interior of the mansion is well furnished, yet the fixtures show signs of great wear. Noticeable oddities are the boarded-up windows and the presence of holy symbols in every room. The burgomeister is in a side drawing room on the floor—lying in a simple wooden coffin surrounded by wilting flowers and a faint odor of decay.
Having thanked Annaletta for the information she had provided, Crisaryn took leave and proceeded with the rest of the group to the home of the Burgomeister. It had been one thing to have been told of the soulless ones, but quite another to see them as they made the way through town. Though given the gloom of this place and all the talk of curses, perhaps it was better?
At the manor she was surprised to hear a woman's voice answer. And then to learn it was Ireena herself - the one cursed that they were summoned to help - that answered the door. But the one who had summoned them was dead. She entered inside with the others once invited. "My pardon, but did you say you think these letters may not have been written by your father's hand? Would he have had an assistant draft them? Or could they have come from somewhere else?"
He may have written them in a hurry , Ismark may know. You'll find him at the tavern, drinking the past 3 days has been his way of coping with his fathers death. The townspeople have refused to help, we even had to make the coffin ourselves.
Illmirth listens to Ireena, concern and disgust written all over his face. "You are no longer alone to face this," he says to her reassuringly. "I believe my companions picked up some holy water before we came through the mist. Murdock?" Illmirth ceeded the situation to the more knowledgeable healers in the party.
When Ireena's wound had been cleansed by the holy water, Illmirth turned to Ireena and said, "What more can you tell us of the creature that has so plagued you and this town? How can such a beast be stopped?"

The master Vampyr? He is the Lord of Barovia, all the land and the people answer to him. It has been more than 400 years since any normal Barovian could traverse his mist in safety. Only the Vistani and visitors like yourselves have come through unharmed.

Lorelei Dawnwarden
The young priestess with the blonde braided hair follows the others inside with a small polite bow to the beautiful woman in armour with auburn hair. More dark news, the Burgomeister dead and their hostess afflicted. She tried desperately to recall what her mentor had taught her about what should be done with a corpse like the one before her, and how a wound like Ireena's should be treated.
Illmirth ponders over her words briefly. "Others, like ourselves..." How many other groups, hoping to make a name for themselves or to simply help others in need, had traveled through the mist, never to return. How many had the Vistani guided safely through the cursed woods into this land of Barovia. He quickly shakes off the sense of dread that the line of thought brought him and brought his focus back to the present.
"Will the Vampyr not be angry when he returns to find you healed of his curse? How shall you prevent his vengeance from descending upon what remains of your family line? Is there no place of safety within the town, the church perhaps? I believe that the divine power of the faithful has some power over those creatures who spawn in the darkness of the grave. If the local priest is unwilling to help, then perhaps that should be our next stop."
Illmirth did not look pleased. The thought of a person hiding behind the cloth of a religious leader leaving one of his own to face such darkness alone did not sit well with the happy-go-lucky bard.
As Illmirth assumed, Vaelar keeps to the shadows that skirt the bard's summoned light. The ranger notices and appreciates Illmirth's consideration. Though they were very different in their approach to life, Vaelar was coming to like his jovial companion.
As they greet Ireena and enter the Burgomeister's home, Vaelar keeps mostly to himself. He knows the others are better equipped to discuss the delicate situation with Ireena. He instead devotes his attention to looking around what he can see of the mansion.
Please let me know your names, you already know mine. She gestures them into the siting room where a large oak coffin lay with the Burgomeister laid out within it. Please can you tell me if I should cut off his head. I couldn't bare to have him rise as a Vampyr.
She gently pulls Murdock and Lorelei forward hoping that the new Morninglords devotees were not afraid of Strahd. My neck still festers, and I am fatigued from it, not fit to fight. Can either of you heal this curse? Do you have a spell that might work?
Lorelei remembers her mentor talk about the curse of a Vampyr. You had to remedy it fast before the victim died from blood loss whether by holy water or magic. (remove curse)
He stealthily looked around the different groundfloor rooms. Rich reds and greens in thick leather on the chairs well stuffed and comfortably worn, the floors and curtains were plush velvet. It was the home of someone not afraid of the dark. The oak panels were all heavily carved in floral patterns, with a stags fine head above the fire. The lanterns and candles were already lit, giving the rooms a welcoming glow.
I fear that the Priest here has seen better days, he is afraid of Strahd. Though you may get holy water there, though I'm not sure how good it is, the Morninglords faith has decreased here in the village. You would be better making it yourselves.
The Paladin listens, letting the younger ones speak first. His stolid silence is rewarded in good turn. The Burgomeister dead, a young daughter still left alive, a chance to undo a horrid curse. One innocent could not be saved, and that is regrettable. Murdock will ensure to pray over the man's body later, offer succor unto an honest burial.
He watches as Lorelei attempts her maneuver, praying in a low tone that it be met with success. He acts with a similar reverence as he pulls his curse removal scroll from his pack. His chanting is low, steady, but wracked with mistakes as he chants. It proves a veritable failure as the scroll itself reduces to blank vellum in his hands.
"T'would be untoward of me to claim myself before such failure. Alas fair Lady, thou remainst accursed."
**failure to roll high enough to remove curse, inspiration used, scroll lost.**
"Perhaps cleansing the wound with holy water would at least slow the 'disease' if it can be called that. I think someone in Daggerford mentioned that could work..."
