As you come to a crossroads you see the gates and road up to the castle, in the sunshine it looks normal, not like the forbidding silhouette in the mist.
Ellis takes a turn signposted as towards Vallaki and you soon lose sight of the castle as the woodland closes around you. We are being watched he says, though by good or evil I can not say. Keep together!
At Ellis words the Vardos close up on each other making them less of a target
Illmirth watches closely and sees a glimpse of white flashing through the woods, followed closely by grey furred wolves. It seems to be a regal white stag with large horns. Normally they are taken as messengers of Mielikki the goddess of the forests and the creatures found within. They weren't hunted. Were the wolves all they seemed or something darker?
"There!" he says to the team and any Vistani nearby as he points just ahead of where he saw the stag and wolves. "The wolves are running down a big, white stag."

“Let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen the nightfall.” — Elrond
At Illmirths words some of the Vistani riders turned off into the forest with their bows. Hunting the pack they raced forward to save the King stag. Arrow and sharp silvered hooves picking off the wolves one by one.
An eerie howl can be heard, directing the pack to safety. It's the first time that Illmirth has seen wolves hunt in the daytime.
The King stag stopped on the roadway in front of you, breathing heavily, it is obvious that it wouldn't have lasted much longer. Ellis dismounted and walked towards it saying the soft words of an animal talking spell. He bows to the stag and in return it bends its knees and bows back. He will travel with us a while Ellis said. Then climbed back on his horse, as the hunters returned.
The bard looked at the majestic stag in awe. His heart sang to know that such a beautiful animal would not be reduced to food for the local wolf pack. He looks to the parry and asks, "Does the daytime behavior of the wolves seem unusual to anyone else?"

The warrior of Kossuth puts her hand to her chest as she sees the stag. She has never seen such a magnificent animal before and pauses in awe.
She remembers taking lessons on nature but the specifics have long since left her mind after her head injury. She feels like she should know about wolves but cannot recall any facts.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
As she caught a glimpse of Annaletta. Crisaryn had given a brief wave, realizing that was likely as much as she would see of her on the road.
"I would guess the stature of its prey is what drove the wolves if their behavior was unusual," Crisaryn says. "It is quite a magnificent looking animal though. I wonder why it wishes to travel with us?" If she can find any of the Vistani near at hand, she would ask, "I presume this stag is a good omen of some sort?"
The stag stayed up front with Ellis. It seemed as though they were talking. Though what a woodland guardian would talk about you don't know. But you notice in the bright sunlight that he doesn't cast a shadow.
"Good point, Vaelar. It seems that the rules here are different. The Vistani hunters returned quickly, perhaps we should seek out their knowledge," he said, nodding towards them as they rejoined the caravan.
Illmirth makes a clicking sound, imitating the way he saw the Vistani interact with their horses, and urges his mount towards the hunters. The good natured bard greets them with a smile and says, "My companions and I have observed that many of the animals here behave differently than we are used to. The howl that seemed to call the pack off the hunt also sounded strange, almost eerie, and I can see a large stag, but he casts no shadow. Can you help us to understand?"

The Vistani hunter nearest to Illmirth, Shawn nodded his head. The wolves were called by an animal speaker, most likely a druid. They are trailing us, but we will lose them once the deep woods are finished. Druids here protect their groves, they often take animals as allies. Some are good and others evil, be careful in your dealings with them. He lifts his fingers to rub his nose , then after a moment of stillness he said, they were hunting the King Stag, it is not often that you see one such as much fey as animal they protect the woodland animals and those who live amongst them. Hunting one lands a curse on the killer. Mielikki guards her own. They can mindtalk if you don't have animal speaking if it takes their fancy.
The true wolves here hunt from twilight to twilight, beware those who hunt during the day for they could be werewolves in their animal form. That is why our steel horseshoes are silvered.
"Thank you, your knowledge of this land is most welcome," Illmirth says sincerely. He rejoins the party to share what he learned with anyone who stayed back.

Crisaryn nods as Illmirth relays the information. "Do they say it is a good omen this creature has joined our caravan? I would assume so, but I do not know their customs."
"I think I might have caught sight of the animal speaker over that way," Vaelar says with a nod toward the woods where he'd seen the glimpse of clothing and black hair.
"Will they continue to track us?"
His grey eyes vigilantly watch the treeline for any further sightings.
Shawn edges his horse back to the party, coming to rest next to Vaelar. You have a good eye, are they still following us? I saw something in the trees, but can not tell what it was.
He notices the person stop in the trees and for the first time he truly sees her. A woman with long dark hair and horns dressed in a green robe. She has a wild look about her as though she would run away if you approached her. For a moment your eyes meet hers, she nods and turns away back into the shadows of the forest. The trees parted before her as though alive.

Illmirth guided his horse closer to the companions. His eyes scanned the forest, looking for anything that may be friend or foe.

"I don't know if we can apply what we know of animal behaviour here in this land. The ravens are unlike any I've seen. Perhaps the wolves, too."
He was fitting his bow back into place on his back. He had been prepared to defend the caravan but the hunters took off without warning.

A flap of cloth catches his eye in the woods, then a flash of black hair. Then they disappeared. Was that the source of the howl?
