I can work with this. And I know who to use: Mortimer the Mindful.
Mortimer is not some tragic hero. He's not a redeemed criminal, nor a seasoned hunter. He's not some dashing rogue, or an intrepid devout. Until very recently, he wasn't even a wizard! No, in fact, Mortimer was but a simple scholar, maintaining a small bookstore in the more rundown sections of one of the larger capitol city states. He eked out a simple but rewarding life copying manuscripts, dictating letters, and writing up discernable contracts. He was content, though perhaps not fulfilled, in his trade and had only dreamed of such strange and wondrous expeditions into the wild unknown. It was a nice dream, at that...
All that changed when he found the book. Soft black leather, red ribbon placemarker, and aged yellowpages, the ornate novel drew his attention from the moment he laid eyes on it. The moment he cracked open the cover, reading the golden letters, he began to notice strange occurrences around every corner. Freely moving books, soft lights glowing from nothing, strange illusions pulled from the very air. The clues were plain to see. Mortimer needed no further validation. Clearly the book was a spellbook, and the innate magic within him was reacting to its proximity. Mortimer was a wizard!
Suddenly all his dreams are possible, all his aspirations in reach. That was a month ago, and the man has hardly wasted it. Keeping only his books relative to magical research, the fledgling spellcaster has sold his assets and set about to make for the new world, eager to learn magical secrets long though lost to time and tragedy. Oh, what an adventure it is to be!
Backstory: I'm thinking being a part of the Frontier Dreamers. Lorothak (Loro for short) had grown up with the wanting to know what was beyond the walls, and with the oppression him and his family were undergoing, when the opportunity presented itself to venture out, he hopped on it and was first in line. (I can elaborate more on it if needed if I'm picked.)
Right I thought id give people a few days, I will start to sort out invites tomorrow which may take a bit with all the interesting characters involved. Some may need a few tweaks but that's just where I haven't elaborated on things to much to spare you the nuances of the setting.
Interested as well, if still open. Had to figure out how to roll stats here, so let’s try this.

I have a Dwarf Artificer (merchant background) I’d work up. Under the 2014 rules he was very much built for the construction of towns and such. 2024 re-flavors him quite differently, so let’s cast our hand.
Apologies. I'd accidentally rolled 4d20 instead of 4d6. Mertin was a literal god!
I'm a little late to the party here (no pun intended) but I like the feel of your setting. Do you have room for one more?

I'd like to play 2024 rules if that's OK - I want to get familiar with the new rules and my real-life game isn't interested in switching yet.
Name: Mertin Graymun Race: Human Class: Rogue Background: Charlatan
Mertin is NOT human, but will be loathe to let you know that.
He is actually a changeling who has been stealing identities his entire life to keep his family safe. His mother was involved in an accident when he was very young that put them close enough to death that they reverted to their true form. His father (a wealthy merchant) had a scroll of revivify to bring her back but the damage was already done - everybody knew their secret.
They have been hiding in plain sight as hired help for his father's business ever since, but every time they slip up and are recognised they need to pack up shop and run again. Eventually it reached the point where as soon as his father set up shop someone would recognise him and know who the hired help was. The family had to split up to keep from driving themselves to starvation.
Mertin has travelled to the frontier where he is not recognised in the hope of a new beginning.

Dugar Rilsky,Reborn Undying Warlock / Aberrant Mind Sorcerer (retired)
Keystone Joister (pronounced with a ‘y’ sound as in yield), dwarf artisan artificer.
Comes to the Gilded Reach at the behest of his guild to work his craft in establishing and maintaining the community. Originally taught basic carpentry, he has since branched out into masonry and finishing work such as windows and decor. He plies his magic through his tools to better assist his work. While his guild sent him, he hopes to likewise prove he’s capable of earning the title of Master Craftsman. But who knows what awaits the young dwarf in the harsh establishment (and beyond).

Background: a scholar that came here to research the wildlife. His family taught him lots of magic and ways of the forest. He was sent off after learning lots with a bunch of gold and a couple of magical items. suffers from a disease that makes him frail and easy to kill.
Hi all, Thank you for all the applications, I would have set up to parties but I struggle with running more than one game at a time. I will keep this here just in case and possibly reopen it again once this one runs it's course.

I'd for sure be interested! What are my dice saying to me. Cuz I see a lot of people rerolling 1s, if it's not allowed, I'll do my non-rerolled stat.
