"Yes, wise Thanadol, good good..."sends Skritch, assuming that he had just imagined the Alarm signal going off a few seconds ago since it clearly wasn't a concern for the party's magnificent mage.
Skritch curls up even tighter to get maximum furry warmth as he settles back into his micro-hibernatory state. Hmmm-nymnn-mmymnn-nmmnnn...
Vakas crosses his arms and looks at the jittery Ratatosk and the elven wizard, saying "There is no way that I'm going to sit here and rest when kobolds are lurking around, looking to slit our throats! Have you gone mad? Let's find an out of the way room, lock it, barricade it, set your alarm, whatever. But sleeping on stairs is madness. C'mon now!" He looks over at Rachus and Dealuri for support, "Tell 'em!"

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
OOC: you have managed to rest for one hour (enough for a short rest) but you are resting in a live dungeon which carries risk, hence the roll and the request for more rolls if you rest longer. You currently have a few kobolds sniffing around outside and you can either deal with them or hide from them after which you need to decide whether to continue to try to rest (and roll those d20s) or move on. At the moment I am reading Thanadol wants to stay put and Vakas wants to relocate or press on?
OOC: is it possible for Skritch and Thanadol to keep resting for the extra 7 hours (to convert the short rest into a long one), while your Vakases and Rachases the like go explore or fend off villains, or fight or what not? Or is is it that we all must attempt to long rest or none of us do? Happy to go with however you want to run it.
OOC: PS, if we've successfully done one short rest, then I've regained one use of my Wild shape during that short rest. let me know if I've misunderstood.
(also OOC: PPS was at the Melbourne live play of Critical Role last night. 11,000 in the audience. Was awesome just to be in a crowd of dnd lovers of that size! )
The only thing Thanadol will gain with a long-rest is one more spell-slot so it's up to you guys what you want to do ooc: How many kobolds does there seem to be outside? Does it look like Rachus and Vakas can deal with them?
The kobolds remain talking outside for a few more minutes before heading off toward the entrance. It sounds like there are two of the creatures out there, perhaps three. (Perception roll for more).
The alarm spell begins to fade as the kobolds step out of its range. Below you can hear the heavy snorts of the manticore as it stalks the entrance to its cave, and every so often a sharp scrape as it tests its claws against the iron bars.
"Manticore on one side and kobolds on the other. And the alarm has rung. Everyone to their battle stations!" Dealuri readies her longbow and heads towards the kobolds.
You emerge from your hiding place behind the two kobolds. They appear to have some sort of hound trotting to the side of them on a chain. It turns, sniffing the air and gives a guttural growl as it locks eyes on you. The kobold holding the chain gives it a sharp yank not realising its danger and you all have a moment in which to act before they realise you are there.
Thanadol you let loose your firebolt. It slams into the kobolds back sending it stumbling forward with a sharp screech. The other kobold begins to turn, its pet cave hound straining at the chain, teeth gnashing.
Skritch your firebolt slams home finishing off the injured kobold. The remaining kobold has turned now and snarls as it drops the chain holding the cave hound and reaches for its weapon.
((Assuming first swing with surprise since they haven’t seen us, surprise round.))
Vakas moves quickly, griping underneath his breath, “Why don’t we just jump up and down shouting we’re here, we’re here, drat!” He quickly pulls out his short sword sinking it in the back of the kobold, turning to the other one and then finally to the cave hound if the kobolds go down.
Short sword : 19 to hit, for 10 points of piercing damage and 5 points of electrical damage.
Dagger additional attack due to nick : 9 to hit, for 8 points of damage.
Off hand dagger attack : 21 to hit, for 5 points of piercing damage and 6 points of sneak attack damage.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: Sending Sunhill into battle is fine, but he will then lose his plot armour.
Rachus your wisp strikes the remaining kobold on the shoulder causing it to howl in pain.
Dealuri as the cave hound charges toward you and your companions, you let your arrow fly. It sinks deep into the beast flank though it does not slow its advance. It snaps its slavering teeth at you Skritch Attack: 8 Damage: 6
Vakas you dart forward through the shadows driving your short sword into the chest of the remaining kobold killing it outright. It's body sparks with electrical energy as it slumps to the ground twitching. You turn then and leap toward the charging cave hound sinking your dagger deep to end its attack and then once more to end its life.
The party are once again victorious do they move further into the dungeon or retreat back toward the entrance?
Skritch wheels Sunhill around and bats away the slavering hound (8 not enough v AC15).
He mentalwhispers to Sunhill, "Neverfear, proud pooch, I suspect the gods themselves will take care of you providing I do not ask you to attack. It seems a most fair deal. A, er, a passive pooch you shall be!"
Skritch looks at the fallen k-bos and their poor beast. He closes the cave hounds eyes and wishes him a safe journey to meet the rest of his pack ancestors.
He leaves the kobolds to rot.
To the group he asks, "Back to the junction, then the west tunnel?"

Thanadol jumps up saying, rest time is over let's get a move on, come, let's get those kobolds outside our doorstep.
"Manticore on one side and kobolds on the other. And the alarm has rung. Everyone to their battle stations!" Dealuri readies her longbow and heads towards the kobolds.

Skritch shakes himself to fully awake, noticing the others heading out. At least he'll be able to Wild again if needed...
He nudges Sunhill back into the land of the living.
"Looks like we're back on the, er, clock, my furry friend"
They trot out to see Thanadol's firebolt smack the back of a Kobold.
Skritch will do same thing to same kobold.
Attack: 12+5=17 Damage: 5

OOC: Can I charge Sunhill for him to pounce on the other kobold? let me know if that's how mounts work. Cheers
Rachus lifts his flute and fires a mote of light at the weakest kobold. If that one is already dead, then he will attack the next kobold.
starry wisp
24 to hit 3 radiant damage
Then he retreats back into the room with the staircase.
End of Turn.
