Salty wipes the sweat from his face and scratches his blue haired head. His eyes worked very well, so seeing the camel, gear, and various ropes and straps, held together by what looked to the orc to be a pair of beholders stalk wrestling. His eyes sqinted as he glared menacingly at the various knots. His hand drifted to the hilt of his sword. "So, again me 'n ye er fer meetin'," he growled at the mess of attachments. Yet again his nemesis rears its ugly knot.
The captain glared at a young Salty with a critical eye. The orc, in his late adolescent, was undeniablely strong, but he seemed to be picking himself up off the deck as much as working. One good one bad, but perhaps his sea legs would develop... The grizzled captain knew better, but he couldnt help but root for the fledgling sailor. The captain's hat shook slowly, he didn't like it, but his duty was to his ship and crew. After watching Salty battle a complex knot securing a secondary sail for the better part of an hour he knew the young orc was not cut out for life on a ship. When they docked he broke the news. As Salty departed, head down and feeling positively wretched, the captain penned a letter of recommendation to the captain of the dock watch. He made sure the young orc had an opportunity to earn his keep and hopefully stay out of trouble.
"I'm not fer likin' anywheres ye can't gets to by boat," He grumbled, but it was obvious the ropes, knots, and half a dozen straps were beyond ability to sort through.
Krakan scratches his bald head, trying to imagine the finer points of load balancing while loading a camel with equipment for travel. He tries to just use common sense, he is not familiar with such things, has not traveled in a caravan frequently or ever been in charge of such matters. He bends underneath the camel examining the straps considers the weight, looks from the front, the back, the sides and then makes some adjustments as they rearrange the load. “There. Looks right to me.”

Krakan adjusts the straps and load of the gear. In appreciation the camel nuzzles Krakan's shoulder before continuing onward. The next few hours are rather uneventful save for the sweltering sun beating down on the party
As you move on each of you encounter several swirls that are between 3-5 ft in diameter of loose sand. They are peppered across the dunes ahead of you.
Krakan stops the camel, giving it a rub and a pat on the neck. “Whoa. Stop. We should go around. Maybe on top of the dunes now? There is something there… perhaps something waiting underneath for us…”. Krakan rubs his head, looks at the pattern and has an uneasy feeling in his stomach.

"I'd suggest we make sure to handle the camel with care for without it we shall not be able to use it for the whole trip."
After they continue on a bit once Kraken is able to stow the gear on the camel properly.
"Great work Kraken. I'd say we should stay as a group and only go at the slowest pace unless there is a need to do otherwise. We will be better off together my friends. Whoa good eyes Kraken. I agree. Let's stay a good distance from that Let me take a peek about too. Just in case there are more things to be concerned about."

It takes a second look, but yes new swirls are forming slowly and subtly around the party's position. A few steps away from this area sees disturbances in the sand following.
Krakan reaches into his pack on the camel and grabs his rope, tying it to the torch and then he throws it out into the middle of the center of the swirls in the sand, pulling it along with the rope, trying to give it life. He turns to Lucan, saying “Maybe I’m wrong, but I think this is what you may call… sand fishing. Hah!”

(This made me chuckle and it's a great idea. Inspiration for Krakan)
There is a burst of sand spray as large scythe like insectoid appendages grab hold of the torch. Krakan's got a bite, and the torch is pulled hard under the sand.
Do you let go or try to real in this creature?
If trying to reel in your catch please roll Athletics
Krakan holds onto the rope and pulls it just enough to make the thing believe it has caught something that is struggling, then he whips out a dagger and cuts the rope, letting the end of it and the “catch” go. He turns to the others and says “Quick! Cross now, move quickly, before it discovers what it has caught!” Krakan starts moving, choosing a different path among the sand, trying to herd them away from it with all possible speed. “I don’t want to see what I might have caught. Better to let it stay underneath the sand..”

With the Party's gear stowed on the camel balance is important.
Please roll either History DC 13
On pass you recall how gear should be strapped to a camel by remembering how the traders do it.
Or please Roll Investigation DC 13
On pass you see where the rope or uneven bulge would create a sore on the camel from chafing.
Samir rolls a 5 investigation - he has no clue as how this is done, as he has never been in this situation before.

Salty
The blue haired orc gave Krakan a pat on the shoulder and a nod of approval. "Yer fer doin' right by yon humphorse."
Salty stops in his tracks when they see the swirls. His hand drifts to the hilt of his sword as his eyes scan the unnatural spiral shapes in the sand.
