She points toward the twisted vines that do not sway.
"I sense danger from those vines. Be wary."
"These vines?" Yuno points toward the twisting vines with her sword "Are they the stay away type of danger or can we get rid of the danger by wacking them?"
The group edges beneath the cracked archway, the courtyard yawning wide before you. Broken cobblestones lie uneven beneath a mat of weeds, thorns, and vine-choked rubble. For a heartbeat, the air is still — unnaturally so — the only sound the faint groan of old stone settling under unseen pressure.
Then Volkanica’s warning proves true.
As Yuno points her blade toward the vines, one of the thick coils twitches — not with the breeze, but with intent. Then another shifts, and another, and suddenly the brush itself comes alive. What looked like harmless weeds split into clawed forms, knotted wood pulling free of the earth with snapping roots, and grasping arms reach out from the undergrowth.
Four gnarled figures rise from the courtyard floor — twig blights, their jagged forms scraping against stone — while a thicker coil unravels near the fallen obelisk, bark flexing to reveal a looming vine blight. Its tendrils scrape across the flagstones with a sound like wet rope, stretching outward in search of prey.
The air fills with the creak of wood and the whisper of leaves on stone. The courtyard is no longer silent. It is alive — and it means to choke out intruders.

Trythia moves forward, her glaive ready, at once unfamiliar and a part of her. As she does, she focuses the energy coursing through her, makes the proper though unremembered gestures and murmurs words of protection. A nimbus of golden light envelopes her. She moves to the nearest creature. As she approaches, she twirls, her hands dropping near the bottom of the weapons. The weapons spins with her, the blade a blur as she attacks, whistling through the air. The Willow Sings...that's what that form is called, she thinks, no idea where the memory came from.
ooc: She stops about 10 feet from the nearest creature, casts Shield of Faith as she moves in, then attacks. Attack: 13 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Gedyr calmly heads towards the gap in the rubble, still as silent as the night. Determined not to stop, and to avoid anything that could interfere with his arrival at the pull.
The ruin’s silence clung to Gedyr as he slipped between broken walls and creeping vines, the pull within his chest never faltering. The gap in the southeastern rubble loomed ahead, a jagged opening where stone had collapsed outward long ago. Beyond, the air seemed colder, the distortion heavier— shadows bent further out of sync, and even the faint sound of his breath felt delayed, as if the ruin itself wished to smother it.
He advanced without pause, slipping past the overgrowth that stirred faintly at his edges. Thorn and vine sagged as if to catch him, yet no life rose against his steps. The twisted guardians that lurked among the courtyard brush remained still, deceived by his silence and careful pace. Nothing broke to bar his way.
Through the gap, the ruin descended. Cracked steps, half-choked with rubble, led down into a shadowed hall—the antechamber vault. From here, the arcane distortion pressed heavier still, thick enough that the stone underfoot seemed to hum faintly, each step echoing with a resonance not his own. The pull in his chest grew stronger, insistent now, as though the very heart of the ruin lay just ahead.
The courtyard erupts into chaos as Trythia charges forward, her glaive spinning in practiced forms even her memory cannot place. A nimbus of golden light clings to her as she advances, the blessing holding fast against the warped air. Her blade whistles down toward the nearest blight—sparks skitter across stone as the twisted body jerks aside at the last instant.
The twig blights answer in a splintering rush. Two rake at Trythia’s legs with hooked branches. A third scuttles toward Yuno, wooden maw creaking in a parody of a snarl, while the fourth darts for Cygnan.
Behind them, the vine blight unfurls to its full height near the fallen obelisk. Thick tendrils whip across the flagstones, weaving into a clutching net that surges outward. Roots groan and tear free as the grasping carpet tries to pin you all in place.
DM Notes
Start of round context: Trythia moved ~10 ft into the courtyard, stopping at reach (10 ft) from the nearest twig blight. She cast Shield of Faith while closing, then attacked (Attack roll 9 → miss).
Placement
Trythia: ~10 ft inside the arch, front-center.
Two Twig Blights: close to Trythia (melee).
One Twig Blight: closing on Yuno (front-right).
One Twig Blight: closing on Cygnan (front-left).
Vine Blight: 5 ft behind the twigs, near the fallen obelisk (rear-center).
Vine Blight: Uses Entangling Plants (recharge 5–6; available). All party members within 15 ft of the Vine Blight: Trythia/Yuno/Cygnan must make a DC 12 Strength save. On failure: Restrained (action to break free, DC 12 Str check).
Yuno hops back to gracefully dodges the Twig-blight's maw while laughing maniacally. She moves back in to range with a quick lunge at the blight that attacked her and then following up with a back-edge cut across the blight using her same sword. All the while, she steps forward and back almost like a dance. When the roots shoot out from the ground to restrain her, Yuno spins around with her blades, chopping the roots before they could bind her.
Bastard Sword vs Twig-blight (that attacked Yuno): 12 to hit | Dmg: 12 Slash BA Bastard Sword vs Twig-blight (Move and attack the vine blight if the Twig-blight was already dead from the first attack): 22 to hit | Dmg: 10 Slash Movement: To the Vine Blight if the Twig-Blight died.
Cracking his knuckles, Haluth charges forwards towards Trythia, and leaps into the air before crashing down with his feet on one of the blights that attacked her. As he lands near that blight, he follows up with a seemingly drunken swing at the nearest standing blight before snapping back with his other fist in a movement that is surprisingly agile for a dwarf of his size. Whether the blights that he attacked go down or not, Haluth will notice Yuno running forward to the larger blight near the obelisk and rush to join her while drunkenly ducking the swings of any twig blights that attempt to catch his retreating form.
Movement: Using up to 35 feet of movement towards Trythia and the two Twig Blights near her
Bonus Action: Flurry of Blows - Spending 1 Ki Point (Drunken Technique increases Haluth's walking speed by 10 feet to 45 feet and grants him the benefit of the Disengage action until end of turn) Attack Roll: 12 - Damage Roll: 6 Attack Roll: 11 - Damage Roll: 6
Movement: Using the remainder of the movement to follow Yuno to the Vine Blight around the Twig Blights (will do this even if Yuno fails to kill herTwig Blight and therefore doesn't move)
(OOC: Wow - those are some pretty bad rolls XD)

"These vines?" Yuno points toward the twisting vines with her sword "Are they the stay away type of danger or can we get rid of the danger by wacking them?"
"I feel as though they are coiled... and waiting. If we hurt one, it is likely the rest may respond."
"Don't **** with them. Got it!" Yuno notes before moving on, now careful not to touch the vines.
