OOC: Sorry for the delay, crazy week here. Note that now that Carl is at 5th level, he gets two eldritch blast beams. I rolled the extra for Carl, which was a hit for 10 force damage.

"After the archer!" the priest barks, and at his command, a bulky, blue-skinned drake darts out from behind the wagon, charging and snaking its way through the crowd to reach Hildigrim near the inn just as he releases his arrow over the crowd and the priest. The two-headed giant turns to face Auriel, the creature seen up close to clearly be half-dragon, and it rears back its head. The priest draws a sigil in the air and belts an arcane command. As the ettin belches out a poisonous gas, spirits that appear to be fiendish and draconic in nature spring forth around the priest and dive for Hex and Auriel as they approach and harry their targets. While each of them make it through, coughing and in pain but alive, they see that others around them have not been as fortunate, town folk that have met their end from the poison or the fiendish forms.
From above, Carlthuzad rains down two mighty arcane beams of force that slam into the ettin.
The bright daylight above seems a caricature around the chaos that has found Phlan. The streets are rapidly clearing, the sounds of screams becoming more distant and being replaced by the shouts and exertions of combat. A short distance away, Auriel's mighty steed has cleared the way of fleeing villagers, stomping its hooves in preparation.
Round 2 Order: Players <===== Enemies
Placement: Auriel is engaged in melee combat with the half-dragon ettin. Hex is engaged in melee combat with the priest. Hildigrim is engaged in melee combat with the guard drake. Carlthuzad is 100 feet away and 15 feet above the ground.
Health: Auriel is lightly wounded. Hex is lightly wounded.
"Carl, help!" Hildigrim bellows as the drake runs at him.
The halfling drops his bow and draws his rapier. (Attack: 11, damage: 9 piercing) He shifts his weight and thrusts at the creature's eyes, hoping to both blind it and to distract it so that Carl will have a better chance of hitting it.
Bonus: help action to Carl if he chooses to attack the drake
(Ough... rolling just a bunch of 1s and 2s for damage...)
Hex clicks her tongue in annoyance as both the spirits and a drake appear out of nowhere. "Of course, just as I decide to be on the frontline..." she mutters to herself. For now, she continues to attack the priest, hoping to knock him out as soon as possible.
Despite the giant's attention fixed on him, Auriel turns his focus to the man in robes. The paladin's already felt the bite of his fiendish and draconic spirits, and out of the corner of his eye he's seen several townsfolk fall to them. This man needs to be stopped, and quickly.
With that resolve, Auriel strikes not once but twice, each blow infused with divine power. Then, reversing his grip, he drives the shaft of his weapon forward for a third, blunter strike.
Like Hex, he avoids the vital organs—this man must live long enough to be questioned.
Through their bond, Auriel urges his kelpie warhorse to aid Hildigrim and Carl in bringing down their target.
Action. Attack 1 to hit: 12+3/ Damage: 11 - Attack 2 to hit: 17+3/ Damage: 11 Bonus Action. Polearm Master Attack to hit: 15+3 / Damage: 5 (Non lethal damage)
Carl hears the call from Hildigrim, he gets enough height to spot the guard drake and launches two beams of eldritch energy at it. “I’m on it!” He uses Hildigrim’s help to good advantage, targeting the beast well. After the shots are away, he lowers in altitude again to hide his location.
Eldritch blast 1 : (Nat 20!) 27 to hit, for 15 points of force damage.
Eldritch blast 2 : 16 to hit, for 14 points of force damage.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Half-Dragon Ettin: Battleaxe/Morningstar vs. Auriel:16, 17 - 17 slashing damage
Guard: Bite/Tail vs. Hildigrim: 13, 14
The robed man barely has time to open his mouth to shout for help before Hex and Auriel have him surrounded. He's no match for the speed of two warriors, and as Hex drives him back, the blunt end of Auriel's halberd slams into the back of his head, knocking him unconscious to the ground. Before he's hit the ground, however, Auriel has to duck a sidelong swing of the ettin's axe, leaving him exposed to the massive morningstar in its other hand that slams into his chest, straightening him back up and staggering him with numbing shockwaves from the impact.
Near the inn, Hildgrim leaps over the tail of the guard drake as it swings toward him. He's forced to backpedal with his rapier outstretched to keep the jaws of the creature at bay as Carl reins down powerful arcane blasts from above.
Round 3 Order: Players <===== Enemies
Placement: Auriel is engaged in melee combat with the half-dragon ettin. Hildigrim is engaged in melee combat with the guard drake. Carlthuzad is 100 feet away and 15 feet above the ground.
Health: The half-dragon ettin is lightly wounded. The guard drake is lightly wounded.
Auriel is severely wounded. Hex is lightly wounded.
Carl works in tandem with Hildigrim, attacking the drake again with his eldritch beams. The first shot comes out as he is ascending, the second is not much better. He glances up at the Ettin, sees the monstrous hit on Auril, saying, “Hildigrim, we need to help them!”
Eldritch blast 1 : 13 to hit, for 7 points of force damage.
Eldritch blast 2 : 14 to hit, for 13 points of force damage.
Hex watches as the ettin lands a brutal blow to Auriel, wincing at the sight. With the priest down, she moves next to the paladin and gives him a slap on the back. "Don't worry, I got you. Just focus on bringing this one down."
Movement: Staying within 5ft of Auriel but, hopefully, out of range of the ettin. Action: Casting Cure Wounds at 2nd level on Auriel - 11 points of healing
Auriel watches with grim satisfaction as the robed man falls unconscious, but he has no time to savor the moment. A crushing blow from the ettin crashes into him, nearly driving him to his knees with its brutal force.
Pain ripples through his body, and he coughs, spitting blood onto the ground. For an instant, the weight of the strike threatens to overwhelm him—until he feels Hex's slap, followed by her healing magic, which knits together his worst wounds.
Gritting his teeth, Auriel refuses to falter. He whirls his halberd in a series of strikes, steel flashing as it drives into the monster. Knowing the Ettin may very easily overwhelm him again, the paladin calls upon Tyr, infusing his blows with divine energy, hoping to end the fight before he can fall.
Meanwhile, Aisling lashes out at the drake with her hooves, each strike leaving behind drifting tendrils of water and shadow in her wake.
Action. Attack 1 to hit: 9+3/ Damage: 5 - Attack 2 to hit: 11+3/ Damage: 9 Bonus Action. Polearm Master Attack to hit: 26+3 / Damage: 5
(If any of thise attacks hit, I'd like to use up to two level 1 Divine Smiles, if possible. That would be 4+7+4+6 extra damage)
