backstory: Krakel Lakin began his life as a halfling. He was raised in a wizards conclave and trained to be an apprentice. Several years into his training he was on a quest with his master, aiding him along the way. They encountered an old hag that caught them by surprise. She managed to kill his master, and destroyed his spell book. She turned Krakel into a Goliath for an ironic twist but allowed him to live.
Since that day Krakel decided to turn away from the arcane arts and invest his faith and energy into serving the traditional halfling gods as a cleric. While he still is capable of using his magic for destruction, he prefers to aid those he adventures with and tries to provide protection against the evils of the world.

A halfling who was transformed into a Goliath, that’s gonna create some levity.
Should we already be acquainted or still unfamiliar with one another?
if you want to

I thought it was a fun idea. I haven’t totally flushed out how it’s gonna impact my play style yet but I’ve got a few ideas.
I do enjoy groups where we know each other at least loosely when we start. Makes things feel more friendly and connected.
Perhaps we have met in a temple, or a religious town with many temples? And decided to travel together because of similar ideals?
I like that we all have a religious aspect to our characters and a sort of redemption or recovery theme. I think LMoP starts in Neverwinter, a big city lots of opportunities for us to have at least seen one another.
Some more background on Mika, to give hooks to connect the characters together.
Mika is wandering to "save civilization", since she worships the goddess of civilization. She's not likely to fight against even an evil country, but is very willing to fight monsters to save villages.
She calls herself a "half Tiefling", because her mother was human. But she's actually fully tiefling.
Mika has a bit of an anger issue, which she tries to guide into appropriate targets. But she is prone to breaking things, then feeling sorry about it and then mending them.
She would love to have traveling companions, and it won't bother her at all that they worship different gods.
While Mika has ranged attack abilities, she prefers to be front and center in a fight. In other words, she prefers melee, and only uses ranged attacks if she can't reach a melee target.
even if we worship different gods, the big question is do we all still appreciate a good drink? There is always the class troupe… Neverwinter has several fine drinking establishments we could have easily met in.
then again our DM might have a plan or want to decide all this I suppose.

The tools for making images have certainly improved over the years!
Here's the original image of Mika, something I did with days of work and over $100 of 3d modeling software:
And here's an AI generated image that just took a couple of minutes:
