Zbornak looks over Zyrelle's shoulder as she draws, nodding and pointing out (quietly, so Amaranth doesn't hear) that she could definitely jump that ravine. "Looks good! Now, shall we go find that artifact?"
“Yes Zbornak, let’s return to the chasm chamber. It appears the only way we haven’t fully explored. Shall we tie a rope on you as “cross” the divide?”
Zozzie uses his fingers to make a ‘walking’ motion with them. Maybe there was a small jump of his hand as he finished the display. He casts Produce Flames at the end, mainly for illumination.
You make your way back to the chasm and begin tying the rope around Sergeant Bakh. "Once I'm on the other side, I'll be able to help you all across." He takes a step onto the bridge, his massive foot spanning nearly the whole width of the plank. He inches forward, one small step at a time. Halfway across the bridge now, in the middle of another step, and a small spider comes falling from the ceiling. It falls, landing directly on the Sergeant's eye. He jumps, startled, and loses his balance. Your grip on the rope tightens, feet firmly planted in the ground pulling with all your might. Bakh swings to the left, and the rope catches on a jagged rock. The force of Bakh's weight and the sharp edge are too much for the rope to handle. It snaps, sending Bakh plunging into the depths. You hear him let out a bloodcurdling scream, before falling into silence.
Zozzie stands there, rope in hand, paralyzed. Mouth slightly agape, stunned as he watched the action take place in slow-motion. A shout of “NO!” formed on his lips, but no sound escaped.
He closed his eyes as the thoughts flooded his mind, the image of Sergeant Bakh’s contorted face burned into his memory.
The name erupting from Cadence before he was consciously aware. The man disappearing down the chasm before any of them could do anything. To die was a possibility they all signed up for… but to go like this.. so pointless and because of a stray spider… it was incomprehensible.
Candence, legs weak from shock, sinks to the ground. Tears forming in his eyes.
Amaranth closes her eyes and sings softly with her head bowed, a mournful tribute for the dead escaping her lips.
As she finishes, she looks up and begins speaking, her voice quickly changing to a tone of anger. "That could have been any of us. Sent on a mission without important information, threatened with death if we return empty-handed. Bakh was just as much in the dark as we."

Zbornak's gaze darkens. She'd never given them much thought before, but now, now she hates spiders. While Amaranth sings, she takes stock of what they have on this side of the chasm. Without a word, she takes the severed end of the rope and ties it around her wrist, then starts onto the planks, her steely gaze locked straight ahead.
(she's not trying to jump it, this isn't the time to do anything foolhardier than usual with the Sergeant gone like that)
Cadence softly sings and touches Zbornak lightly on the shoulder before she starts on her trial. A magical tendril travels from Cadence and helps to guide Zbornak across.
Zyrelle looks down into the crevice wracking her brain for any way to save the Sargent or at least retrieve the body. But from her earlier investigation, the ravine was effectively bottomless. No sound of things hitting the bottom or even bouncing off a wall. Even the light just vanished in the distance. Even if there was water at the bottom, after falling that far, hitting water would be no different than landing on stone.
She stood there deep in regret, if only she had prepared a feather fall spell. No, that would have slowed his fall, but he would still fall slowly till the spell gave out, then plummet to his doom.
She got pulled out of her thoughts when someone called her over to hold the other end of Zbonak's rope. She had been so deep in thought she didn't notice which of her teammates had called for her...
Zyrelle is able to sketch a rough map of the the cave, including the ravine, the other delvers, the mimic, and the water.
Cadence looks impressed at the roughly drawn map. “Good job, Zyrelle! This should definitely help us keep our bearing in here.”
(Much better map than I was picturing 🙂}
