Stepping through, despite your unexplained lack of focus, you notice a room in great disarray, books torn and shelves thrashed to kindling and strewn across the room. It is as if half the objects in the room decided to spontaneously shatter. What is more, you notice in particular that you hear no sound whatsoever as you step inside. Even as your foot brushes against some slightly smoking bits of rubble, there is no noise to accompany the motion. All is terribly, terribly quiet.
Gren steps through, looking confused. He mouths some words, but their meaning is lost without any sound to carry them. The silence only adds to the complete stillness within the room, and just further in, towards the vault, the carnage continues.

As the tip of his halberd touches the door, a flash of blue light emerges from the door handle. The small lightning discharge courses through your arm, numbing it momentarily and dealing 4lightning damage. Gren stops behind at the flash of light.
Assuming that the trap has been sprung and that their position has been compromised, Magnus charges forward, nearly throwing the door from its hinges (Size: Large, STR +3).
Upon clearing the doorway, he immediately steps to the left, swinging his halberd in a short, vicious arc aimed at bisecting anyone unfortunate enough to get in its way.

Magnus M-019: Warforged Juggernaut Fighter, Level 1
The odd silence of the room makes its tragic destruction all the more poignant. In the room beyond, a large portion of the room is taken up by a freestanding iron box, approximately eight feet in each dimension. The tiled floor is scorched, and in some places still smoking. Blood, trailing to two guards with indented breastplates, fills the room and occasionally sparks with a searing electrical charge. More bookshelves lie shredded and in pieces along the walls. In front of the safe stands a single figure, though even a moment of observation suffices to confirm the death of the mysterious figure. The skin, clearly once young and strong, is a mummified remnant of charred flesh and bone. Empty eye sockets stare vacantly at a glowing rune above the door, activated as the figure approached. Lightning continues to sporadically arc between the rune and the mysterious figure, tracing down his quickly setting ligaments and into the sanguine pools at his feet.
Gren quickly ducks under your weapon and, grabbing a heavy piece of rubble, passes his hand fluidly over its surface. Releasing the piece of masonry, it proceeds to fall horizontally towards the standing figure. Without a sound, the stone impacts the man, folding him over it's side and pushing him into the far wall, where the two come to rest. The glyph ceases to glow, fading and darkening like dying embers.
No enemies appear, apparently having been dealt with in the storm of destruction leading into the room.
Gren gestures impatiently at Magnus, indicating that he should come and stand before the door. Gren then makes a fist and begins to pound it into his outstretch hand. He seems agitated.
The door weakens significantly but holds fast. Grimacing again, Gren repeats the gesture. He glances nervously over his shoulder to the wreckage of the other rooms further into the house, the unnatural quiet unnerving him significantly.

Cautiously moving forward, Magnus approaches the walls of the house closest to the terrace.

Approaching the door to the second floor, you make out no significant threats in any proximity. Distantly, within the house, you hear
*thump
Though you could easily have imagined it, and there are no further sounds. The guards appear to be completely absent.
I do not like this. There should be more guards present.

Seeing nothing, Magnus advances to the door that leads them nearest to the vault, and opens it, switching to his halberd.

This is some foul sorcery, Magnus says, if only for his own benefit.
Moving towards the vault he edges the door open with the tip of his halberd.

Sorcery, Magnus spat. Do what you must Gren, I will guard the way.
With that he turned and moved into the study proper, halberd at the ready as he scanned for threats.

Gently pushing Gren to one side, Magnus rears back and aims a shattering kick at the door, just above where the handle is located.
