Iden jolts to a stop at Thyrnn’s warning. Without thinking Iden starts reciting words as if to start casting a spell. After the moment of shock, Iden feels a little relieved that Thyrnn is taking charge.
“I will follow your lead!”
Iden will ask Nilme to look for anything that could help the group or find the shortest point to get off the ice.
Abishai, you remove your pack and begin grabbing your length of rope. However, as you're looking down you notice one...two...three cracks form from below your boot. They don't slowly move away, they move extremely fast. It's fine to feel less responsible for the current predicament due to the fact that as Thrynn transforms into a very large spider, which sets panic in motion for Viletta's horse, and the sudden, but somewhat careful drop to her stomach by Grelk, the ground below you is without a doubt, about to give way and the water below is going to swallow you whole. Panic sets in for you Abishai, what are you going to do? Thrynn, you have transformed into a very large spider. Iden, you watch as Thrynn transforms and prepare. Viletta you have just finished calming your horse down. Grelk, you've dropped down onto your stomach and begun slowly crawling away. And Skalma, you have just pulled out your prodding stick as you begin slowly searching for solid ground.
The noticeable CRACK beneath their feet sends Viletta into instant motion. She leaps into her horse's saddle, and spurs him to gallop away from the breaking place. She snatches her own rope from behind the saddle, tying one end to the saddle, and flinging the other end down to the breaking ice where the others stand. "Take hold!" she shouts out--to no one in particular--but if she doesn't plunge through the ice, perhaps the strength of her horse can pull out someone who does. But it's only a 50 foot long rope, and horse and rope alike are quickly outpacing its proximity to the rest of the group. Viletta grinds her teeth as she sits up in her stirrups. If only I had a longer rope...
(The horse will DASH 120 feet in an attempt to get away from the place where the ice seems like it will break.)
After a moment Iden realizes that casting a spell as a ritual would be too slow. Taking a breath Iden will investigate the area to see what direction the ice is the most stable. Using that information Iden will help others to not walk on the weakest parts of the ice.
'Oh no!' the bearded warrior thinks as he begins tying the rope around himself... SoH: 10
Then suggests others tie themselves into the rope, but before his plan can proceed, panic sets in. He looks down at his feet. Cracks in the ice spreading fast like a spiders web. No discernable direction to take... 'Is this the end?' Looking around, the warrior sees his companions all doing different things. 'A spiders web...'Abishai doesn't have time to finish the thought as Viletta and her horse gallop away. He looks back to the spider and rushes the creature, jumping on its back. the rope tied to Abishai dragging behind the fighter.
"We need to move, NOW!" the fighter yells as he takes hold of the spiders abdomen. Fear taking hold of the burly mans voice. His eyes wide in terror. "The ice is about to break!"
Spider-Thrynn will move as fast as it can (30ft) + dash after Abishai climbs on him and after the web is depleted. He will travel in the same general direction as Viletta but not the exact same, not trusting the ice after the horse galloped on it.
Threads of web trailing from its abdomen for others to stick themselves on if necessary
With a quick prayer to Orvain, her eyes light up, and the wind seems to pick up as Grelk casts bless on herself, Iden and Skalma. she then continues to crawl along Thrynn's spider webs as fast as she can (or grab a hold of Abashai's rope if possible)
Skalma gapes in utter disbelief as she watches the party disintegrate into blind panic, doing the very opposite of what she - a frost goliath, a ranger, a survivalist - had sternly advised. All her training told her to get low, to distribute her body weight as Thrynn rightly had, to stop moving or crawl. But with the amount of sprinting and galloping at full pace, any hope that the cracks would remain small seemed forlorn. Bloody amateurs are gonna get me killed!
Feeling a fool, she breaks into a mad dash after the glutinous webbing the skittering spider is laying in its wake, praying it is fashioning a temporary causeway for the giantess. She feels Grelk's magic take hold, and a feeling of reassurance spreads through her frame despite the terrible odds.
"Don't stop! Don't stop, ye eight-legged freak! Keep spinnin' that flamin' silk!" She roars, lifting the long pole across her front, hoping the larger span will spread her weight and latch on to something solid if the ice beneath her feet shatters.
ACTION: Dash. Doubling her movement speed to 70ft. MOVEMENT: On top of Thrynn's webbing, also going for Abishai's rope if Grelk misses the first attempt to grab it. (Athletics: 7)
Viletta you take off on your horse, dragging rope behind you.
Abishai you climb up on top of Thrynn's spider form.
Thrynn you take off on your spider-run after Abishai climbs on top.
Iden with no one around to guide, you instead use your investigative skills to guide yourself.
Skalma you take off running with the rest of the group.
Grelk you manage to just barely grab hold of the rope dragging behind Abishai and the massive spider.
The ice continues to shatter, at an even faster rate that originally. Grelk, you can feel the ice giving way along your feet and legs, until suddenly you feel the ground harden and a few rocks hit you in the stomach and legs. Iden, you keep a sharp eye on the ice as you move quickly. At one point, the cracks jut in front of you, completely cutting you off from moving forward, but with quick speed, you manage to jump over the break and continue running.
You all appear to be back on solid ground. Loose initiative is over.
Abishai slides off Spider Thrynn's back, thankful to be back on solid ground. He collapses to the ground onto his back as he processes what just happened. "Okay... let's not do that again." He sits up, scanning the group to ensure no one is missing after his adrenaline dumps. The bearded warrior suddenly feels very tired, but forces himself to stand up as the anger inside him grows. Turning to Skalma and Thrynn, Abishai asks, "How could this happen? We almost died! Surely the tracks didn't lead us onto a frozen lake." It takes the red-cloaked guard all of his restraint to refrain from yelling.
He looks back over the thin ice lake, wondering why the ice was so thin. 'So bloody cold here, that ice should be solid as rock.' He then says, "Or maybe they did, and that caravan is now at the bottom of the lake." He looks to the others as he adds, "Perhaps we should look for some shelter for the night. I'm tired and visibility is getting bad. Also, we should tie ourselves together to avoid one of us getting lost in the damnable snowstorm." He moves to tie his companions in a daisy chain with his length of rope, if allowed.
He growls the word, snowstorm, as the look on his face would scare even a polar bear and make it think twice before approaching the angry man. His anger had dissipated towards his companions, but had redirected in ferocity at their current predicament.
Iden's knees buckle as they return to solid ground. As he hits the ground, spellbook in hand, he opens to a page that looks surprisingly worn. Jamming his Warhammer into the group, Iden will cast light on it. As he reads the word, he looks up at the group.
“Yes, yes let us avoid walking onto lakes that are not fully frozen over. We can analyze the past to try to find an answer to your questions after we prepare for the night.”
Iden will request Nilme take a quick look around for any wood they might be able to use for a fire. After 10 minutes Iden finishes casting unseen servant as a ritual and asks it to help set up camp.
Agreed. I'd like to avoid doing that again where possible.
As she realizes how sore her arm is from being yanked and dragged and starts rolling it out.
Oof, that's felt better. Way to think on your feet Thrynn...Then catching the pun a little late however many of them there are
While thrynn starts scouting the area, grelk says a little prayer to Orvain to thank him for their safe passage, and to protect them through their first night in the permafrost
