First of all, hi, I'm Shimeji - QuickFastAndSwift is a super old username and I'm not sure how to change it yet, so just ignore that for now - and I'm a brand-new player who, as the title says, is looking for a free online campaign without Discord use, and the main question here is whether a campaign can be run on this site in the first place. I posted this in the wrong forum before, and I'll be deleting the first instance of this post very shortly
Forgive me if this is a loaded or disrespectful ask, as I'm really not sure how online DnD campaigns work at all, and am not really able to conveniently access any DnD-related site other than this one - If I'm getting something wrong, I'd appreciate being told! I'd like it to be done online as I'm much better with words when I actually get to type them out, if that makes sense, as I'm an aspiring author - I'd prefer something beginner-friendly but not too hardcore or serious with a focus on roleplay, but of course I can adapt to whatever rules or baselines I'm given. Nothing like, whimsical fairy-tale "not too hardcore or serious" though - I mean something that isn't overdramatically gritty or grimdark. My limits would be somewhere around Octopath Traveler, not Cyberpunk 2077 or Resident Evil! But that's just a preference. Again, I can adapt to whatever!
(Er, again, as long as it's on this site.)
I should make it known I am absolutely bottom-barrel beginner. I know next to nothing about how this game's combat or most of its character creation works, but I'm excited to learn and try it out. If you have a game that fits - or are at least willing to teach a newcomer - I'd love to hear from you!

There tend to more players than games here, so I doubt that anyone will reach out. You'll just have to keep checking the recruitment filter like everyone else and applying to any games that appear to meet your requirements.
And, while you wait to join a game, you can learn about character creation and combat by reading the Basic Rules (no purchase required!). You can also pick a game thread here and just start reading it every day to see whether you can follow what's going on. (Just don't post to a game thread unless you're one of the players in that game.)

Yes! 🙂 As evidenced by the scores of game threads in this forum with activity in just the last week.
Let me point you to some advice that I recently posted for another newbie.
