Seeing one of the corpses still trying to grab at Kora, Sólmyrkvi strikes at it with his staff. No. Not a staff. Now that he's no longer thinking about subduing Griss and is instead wholly focused on saving his friends from the Zombies, the strange longsword with the blade the color of seafoam is back in his hands. It almost seems to glow in the pale light of the cold day as he swings at the zombies.
Movement: None. Remain in melee with the Zombies. Bonus Action: Change Pact Weapon, from a Quarterstaff to a Longsword Action: Attack the Zombie that grabbed at Kora, Longsword (pact weapon, two-handed): 18(16 + 2 from bless) Damage: 5 (radiant) Free Action: Causing his pact weapon to deal radiant damage.
As Kora breathes a little easier when the zombie that had grabbed her is killed, she just escapes another one (DEX save 10+4 bless) and directs her ire upon this one. She swings her Shillelagh club again.
Attack: 19, Damage: 4
She then spies Leif heading towards Griss and feels a little relief that he hopefully can get her.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Leif you race toward the fog and (with a 15) you can make out the faint glow of your whisp within. You launch you spell again and see it hit home as Griss cries out and the radiant light glows brighter. (Leif you are 20ft from the fog and 30 ft from Griss)
Halp and Kora you push the shambling corpses away easy enough.
Sólmyrkvi you slice into the nearest creature with your blade, cutting deep into the cold flesh. Eldon you send in another bolt of fire sending the zombie crashing to the sand.
Only one remains and Kora you turn your attention to it, bringing your Shillelagh crashing down upon its skull and ending its existence.
Within the fog you hear Griss scream out. STR Check 12 to escape. She remains unable to break free.
Halp will wade into the fog toward this Griss. As he does he's roaring, "I shielded you 'cos it were right. You've made me wrong to have done so. That sits. Not well. With me. Lass!"
(OOC: Unclear of distances or impediments, so this next bit is only if Halp gets to her)
If he gets to her he will hit at her twice, both with the intention of dealing non-lethal damage:
Shillelagh: To Hit: 6 + Bless 1 >> Force Dam (if hit): 9 and slows target speed by 10 Light Hammer (nick): To Hit: >> Dam, if hit: 7 + Bless 1 >> Bludgeoning Dam (if hit): 3
Since Leif, Kora, Halp are already heading toward the fog that now enshrouds the girl, Sólmyrkvi does not hurry after them. He shouts ahead to them, "Do not kill the girl! If she has been ensorcelled, she may not be acting of her own will!" He wonders whether it's true or whether she simply bargained with some Power to ensure that she survived Ragnorök, and now she's paying the price for a bargain that she didn't understand. He glances anxiously at the sword in his hands.
Unsure whether the danger is over or just beginning, Sólmyrkvi takes a moment to cast a spell that he learned during a brief apprenticeship with a wizard. If Griss continues to be a problem, he may be glad of the protection. He calls back to anyone whom he recruited to help them with the corpses today and who is within hearing, "Stay back! There's some dark magic at work here. Keep everyone away from these bodies until we get back here." (Persuasion: 25, in game log) Then he carefully approaches the fog so that he can help his friends if this girl continues to cause trouble.
Movement: 30-ft closer to the fog and Griss, following after Kora and Halp Action: Cast a spell Mage Armor, using his pact weapon as a spellcasting focus. AC is now 15. Free Action: Talking
Conditions/Effects: benefitting from Leif's Bless spell
All that had met the bard in his haze was the cold. A welcoming cold, soft frost nipping at his flesh and reminding him of life. This had not been the life he had imagined, but it was one he was resolute in seeing through. Not because it was his. No. He had long before dwindled away the opportunity to do more, and faced a grisly end when the world and reality itself slammed shut upon him. This cold truth left his mirth all but the most hollow ring, yet ever still had carried him through true Apocalypse to his current state.
And yet, even as he wandered through the unknown and ignored the calls of others, this coldness gave credence to his life once more. The harsh reality of his inspiration struck like a bolt, an epiphany of a rather grievous nature. Skalds were not names, but titles, those who chanted of heroes in days of yore. They were bards of elegy, not heraldry. When his King had asked for inspiration, Richter's heart had pained, for his prior belief of such things resonated in warmth, vigor, and pleasantry. Yet he was not a pleasant man. Not anymore.
Nor, he decided in epiphany, would any inspiration he'd give be. Sometimes, truth and memory inspires more than pretty words and great heroes. And in this age of dead Gods, heroes were those that survived rather than those who were great regardless. It was a staunch realization, one that left him dazed when at last the unfamiliar chill of undeath rocked him out of his oblivious self reflection. He himself had no clue of the goings on, the girl, or the fight that had commenced. Yet where his mind was a malaise when he was beyond it, the moment the malevolent veil of fog pierced his oblivion and kissed the earth of which he stood, wrapping him in obscurity...
The Skald's mind was as clear as day, even as he strode confidently into the swirling cloak of the fog cloud beyond. "Hmmmmmmmm-mmmmmm." No words, no meaning. From his lips parsed a deep rumble in his throat, a constant dolorous tone to resonate in the veil. Why? No reason. None, at least, he could fathom. Not even as he pulled his knives and prepared to join whatever fray was before him...
Leif hears the girl cry out as well as the calls to ‘take her alive’. Realizing that all are assaulting her from mostly one angle and that she has shown she wants to reach the cliffs, Leif uses his 30’ of movement to begin to flank her in a mildly circular path staying just out of the fog. Right or left around is fine, so long as he separates from where the majority are advancing. Maybe in a few more seconds they can encircle her, cutting off her escape. But first, something must be done about this fog.
Facing the cloud that nearly touches his nose, he raises his shield with his left arm and gesticulates with his right. The very air in front of him in a 30’ cube sighs as the moisture within it evaporates, Create or Destroy Water.
Kora agrees with Sol, at least to the point to take her alive. What if there are others that are Agents of Loki? Hopefully they can get some answers from her. Kora stalks straight at the woman, using the light from Leif's spell to spot her and pushing the fog from her face away in a vain attempt to be able to see better.
Perception w/dis: 7
But even with the faint light, Kora gets turned around in the fog. She stops where she is (somewhere in the entanglement and fog) and calls to the Griss, "Please. Come with us willingly and we will stop hurting you. You know we can't let you just leave, right? Stop with all this."
Halp you charge into the fog and you are immediately slowed by the mess of vines that have been raised to trap the girl within. (Difficult terrain) you swing your Shillelagh twice catching only whisps of vapour.
Kora you follow him in becoming immediately confounded by the fog and vines.
Sólmyrkvi (with a 25) the workers obey your command and steer clear of the area. Some of them running back toward the main settlement to fetch help. You see Halp enter the fog, followed by Kora as you carefully approach.
Richter, drawn from your tapestry of morbid ruminations you walk toward the fog and watch with a passing interest as the lad named Leif circles the cloud and raising his shield...
Leif you cast your spell and with a sudden hiss the fog cloud evaporates to reveal the girl kneeling in the centre of the entangled vines. She has her hands to her face and is crying. (Bloody Brilliant move!)
Sólmyrkvi....You see Halp enter the fog, followed by Kora as you carefully approach.

Round 4: Sólmyrkvi
When the fog suddenly evaporates and reveals the girl, Sólmyrkvi feels sorry for her. He tries to coax her to surrender as he walks slowly toward her: "Hello? I'm sorry that my friends hurt you, but do not try to run. Please, we want to help you. Are you OK? Has something bewitched you? Let us take you back to the camp, and we can see what we can do for you." But after the corpses came to life, he's suspicious. If he has time, he will also cast Blade Ward in case the girl lashes out in some way.
Movement: 30-ft of movement through the Difficult Terrain of Entangle to get 15-ft closer to Griss Action: Convince Griss to surrender. Persuasion: 21 If talking to Griss doesn't require an action, then he uses his action to cast a spell: Blade Ward. Whenever a creature makes an attack roll against you before the spell ends, the attacker subtracts 1d4 from the attack roll. Free Action: Talking
Concentration: (if he cast it this round) Blade Ward, round 1 of 10
Leif continues his circuitous path around the now ‘weeping’ girl without advancing, interposing himself and his shield with the cliffs towards which she was attempting to flee. He is quite skeptical and believes this is a performance. He remembers, not 24 hours ago, it was he collapsed on the beach sobbing into his hands while trying to pretend he was choking out seawater. Could she be trying to deceive in reverse? This is exactly what a disciple of Loki would do. He thinks to himself. He maintains concentration on Bless. This is no time to let down his guard for his brethren.
To the best of his abilities, as he circles and his vantage shifts, he studies her body positioning, her mannerisms, and her tone, seeking for a tell of deceit.
If Grisis truly on her knees, eyes covered by her own palms, Halp will attempt to grab her, bind her and gag her. He intends to take her before the King and he doesn't care whether she's amenable to the idea or not. Nor what more subtle and or conciliatory efforts others might be making. (OOC: DM, happy for you to make whatever rolls this may or may not involve)
As he does, he thinks, there'll be time enough for making nice when we're safe.
He'll not risk a witch of Loki jeopardising his King's new kingdom, nor casting some sort of geas on his King or any of them neither.
Kora breathes a sigh of relief as the fog dissipates and makes her way to the kneeling girl with Halp. As he attempts to bind her, Kora Helps, assisting however she can.
Sólmyrkvi (with a 21) Griss drops her hands to her lap, though tears still run down her cheeks. Seeing you cast your spell banishes any trust you may have earned but she does not attempt to flee.
Leif (with a 24) you get the impression that these tears are real, as is the pain and fear in her eyes. She is not faking this, though there is a glint of spite and resentment in her eyes that tells you that should circumstances change she might still be a threat. She will certainly try to escape given the chance, you are sure of that.
Halp you grab the girl and with the help of Kora you bind her. She offers no resistance until you try to gag her. Make a DC 9 Dex save as she tries to bite your hand, desperate to avoid the gag. On a failure take 3 piercing damage and make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. After this you force the gag in place and she offers no further resistance, though she glares at you with hate in her eyes.
Unless Eldon or Richter attack the girl this combat is over.
He is grim as he gags the witch. He tells himself that he is being practical. He may or may not feel bitter at having trusted her in the first place, at having put himself between her and her tormentors.
But that's just one more thing he'll meditate on later.
Leif visibly deflates as Griss is subdued. Once he is convinced she is secured, he lowers his shield and ceases concentration on Bless.
”Don’t give her an inch, mates. She is like a cornered animal and will flee if given a chance, hurting any who get in her way. Although her tears are real from pain, she has survived hits that would have killed several ordinary folk.”
Leif’s brows furrow as a thought crosses his mind. He turns to the cliffs and looks for a notable cleft or cave she could have been fleeing towards. What is over there? He muses. But now is not the time to split from the group.
Unless Eldon or Richter attack the girl this combat is over.
Sólmyrkvi
If the fight is over, Sólmyrkvi just stands guard while Halp and Kora tie up Griss. He tries not to look at the girl while they do that, looking back toward the bodies that have been laid out on the beach. He's afraid to see more of them start moving. Sólmyrkvi feels more conflicted about the girl than Halp and Leif do, at least not based on their grim looks and dire warnings. If Eldon approaches, Sólmyrkvi thanks the man for helping them with the reanimated corpses.
Once Halp is ready to move Griss, he asks, "Where are we going to take her?" The area where they were gathering the bodies was at the very southern end of the beach, but he worries that the rumor of the corpses' attack must be spreading through the camp. If they take her back to King Alaric, they would be dragging the girl through the whole camp to get there!
He starts to take her to the King. Those that would see a King's justice are welcome to follow 'n' bear witness. Those that want to mutter in dark corners can do that too.
If she resists he stops and waits. He will not drag her. He wants her punished for her wickedness. He does not need her humiliated as well.
If anyone else intervenes he will hand the ropes to them and leave them to manage her. Except for those men who were originally threatening her. They're not welcome either.
(Halp might have a bit of a chip on his shoulder about how this has played out...)
