Irtos replies, "It could be something guarding a lizard that's causing the problem, or it could be the guards are lizards. Either way, it's something we'll have to deal with."
"Yesss... lizards guarding the cave..." the voice speaks in all of your minds.
Irtos, while this telepathic communication takes place, you notice that most of the mushrooms around you are decaying and sick. However, you also spot the reddish mushrooms Tarak mentioned earlier in passing - the ones bearing an unsettling resemblance to human hearts that can be used to brew healing potions.
But something else brings a sense of dread to your mind: a few purple fungi seem completely out of place here. Not only do they look perfectly healthy while everything else rots, but you can actually sense a faint, unsettling aura of necrotic energy radiating from them...
Onji, hearing the voice again thinks a second, then speaks to all, " if the lizard guards are bad nee, even evil we would need our weapons to remove the guards to help everyone get better ."
With a look of concern Marin adds, "Yes we will need our weapons if you want us to fight these lizard guards... and why are you all sick except for the purple ones?"

While you arm again, you reach a deeper part of the caves. This cave reeks of rot, and the floor is covered with decaying vegetation. Three small mushroom-folk are working amid the filth. In the southwest corner of the cave, a bulbous object the size of a cart clings to the wall and ceiling, glistening like a glob of jelly.
"We don't know..."the voice speaks in your minds again and you sense a note of deep sadness and frustration. "We don't know what it is about it that they need to guard. We always avoid that cavern."
Looking at his party mates, Onji says, "I think we need a marching order, I assume we can go two wide, anyone want to walk by my side as the front rank?...Marin...You want to walk by my side as we lead our mates toward this blob of purple jelly?"
"Have any of you ever seen anything like this before?
Calling back over his shoulder to Dirk and Irtos:
"Maybe hang back a little so if something surprising happens we're not all caught off guard... but also close enough to help if we need it... I dunno, you'll have to use your best judgement to guess a good distance."

After another long conversation that you are all excluded from, eventually your weapons are returned to you.
"Will you fight the lizard drakes now?" the voice finally returns in your minds.

"Show us where they are and we'll fight them!"
When Marin gets his weapons back he keeps his shortsword drawn.
"Is there anything you can tell us about the lizard guards, what they're guarding, or the situation in general that might help?"
Irtos returns her mace to her belt, and is ready to go.Though she waits to see if Marin's question gets answered.
Onji also listens in. Thinking of the purple mushrooms that are not affected.

"Yes, of course Onji."
Marin steps to Onji's side in the front.
