The night is silent as you look over the village that the lot of you have been assigned to. There are supposed to be vampires tonight, but nothing is coming. And then you hear a whistle, as four shadowy cloaked figures race out of the trees, sharp teeth glinting in the moonlight. It’s time for a battle.
But let’s have a flashback to earlier today, when you first arrived in the town of Nikeras, part of the Amber Province, and part of the country of Tyvern. And for centuries, Tyvern has been having a problem. Vampires. They’ve been infecting the citizens, taking their blood, and destroying homes. So the Eight Orders, Amber, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Agate, Onyx, Diamond, and Amethyst, formed the Knights to stop them. You have just joined the Knights. This is your first mission.
You remember when you were debriefed. “There are eight types of vampires. Fireflies, Moths, Wolves, Bats, Cougars, Spiders, Cockroaches, and Owls. Fireflies and Moths are the most dangerous. They can survive during the day. They’ll be hiding among the townsfolk, watching and waiting. And at night, they’ll strike. I have given you the knight’s blade, an experienced vampire fighter.” So, as you enter this town, clutching the cross around your neck, what would you like to do?
Hello! This is a PBP about Vampires, basically a tower defense with a heavy mystery plot involved too, run by Gato (Thegatolover). We’ll be using the 2024 rules. You make a level 4 character to start. You can put your sheet on paper if you sent me your AC, DPR, and HP. You can also only multiclass two different classes to prevent too much minmaxing.

I've started this game, but didn't get very far, last updated a month ago. Interesting, the DM seemed to be Wes__, though that might be a different Wes.
I was playing a small tabaxi Hexblade Warlock who had been granted power by a sentient sword she had found. She was focused on diversity rather than power, dipping into other classes for a lot of spells, including some healing. The defining feature of this character was her large appetite, although she was small, she ate more than two large men.
This character was based on a Web Novel I'd read (the Main character was the sword in the novel). I'd love to play this character again, but thought you might not want someone who has played this module before, even if just the beginning.

Yay! Fran is one of my favorite characters to play :-)
Name: Fran
Class: Warlock
Species: Tabaxi
Backstory: Fran had been a slave as long as she can remember. The slave merchant that owned Fran was attacked by a monster while between towns. He ordered his slaves to fight the monster although they had no armor or weapons, just to buy the slaver time to retreat.
Fran, one of the slaves, a young cat girl, saw a sword just stuck in the ground. When she approached the sword, it talked to her telepathically, asking her to pull it out of the ground and equip it. When Fran did so, she is suddenly proficient with the sword and with magic. She defeated the monster, though not until after the monster had killed all the other slaves along with the slaver. The sword also somehow released her from the slave collar that had compelled obedience, she was now free, with a magic sword!
Fran named the magic sword Master and has embarked on life as a adventurer. She often has problems not being taken seriously due to her age, but she is growing powerful quickly. Most recently she's joined the knights to hunt vampires.
Subclass: Hexblade
How should we handle stats and starting equipment? For now I've just reset the level to 4 from the previous game.

Backstory: Born to an elf mother and human father, his father wasn’t present in his upbringing. Grew up amongst elves but treated poorly because wasn’t full elf. His mother trained him in the ways of a cleric. When he was old enough he left his life with the elves to prove himself. He worked as a ranger to hone his skills. Has a deep hate for undead, fiends and vampires due to his religious upbringing. Wants to achieve notoriety.
Backstory: Born among other Dwarves, he had a normal upbringing. But when young Caine got angry, weird stuff/events occurred. His parents taught him to control his anger, that limited weird magical events. Caine became a solo individual with no friends as he went to the forest to escape for a few hours. A fox sensed his hidden magic, and worked with Caine to harness that wild magic. Caine even learned some spells.
After a long taxing day learning from the fox, Caine said his goodbyes and headed home. Caine quickly realized he forgot his walking stick, went back to retrieve it. Just before Caine showed himself the fox turned into an Orc. Caine left and did not retrieve his walking stick. The next time Cain showed up, he found the orc, his throat ripped open and a dead orc. based on the footprints near the body, he saw fox prints then those covered by orc and some sort of third set that Caine determined was the murder of his mentor. The murder of his mentor put Cain into a rage that got him banished from his home. Drifting around Cain found some work as a map maker for a quasi Government organization. That work resulted in him be noticed by the Order and he eventually became a Knight for them.
Caine was reluctant to start due to his past magical transgressions, but fully and unequivocally embraced the Knighthood when he realized the tracks of the murder of his mentor belonged to a vampire.
Jebediah Staine was born in the quiet farming village of Hollowford, a place where the nights were long and the superstitions even longer. His family lived simple lives—tilling soil, tending livestock, and praying to the Light for good harvests. Jeb was the eldest of five, a steady presence who learned early how to shoulder burdens without complaint. But Hollowford had a secret. For generations, the village paid a silent tithe to a creature that stalked the surrounding woods—a vampire known only as The Pale Marquis. Every few years, someone would vanish. A shepherd. A traveler. A child. The villagers whispered, prayed, and endured.
Until the night the Marquis came for Jeb’s family.
Jeb returned from a winter hunt to find his home torn open, the hearth cold, and the snow outside stained crimson. His mother and two siblings were gone—taken. His father lay dying, drained and delirious. With his last breath, he rasped a warning:
“The darkness knows your name now… run.”
Jeb didn’t run.
He carried his father’s body to the chapel, knelt before the altar, and swore an oath that would define the rest of his life:
“If God wills it, I will be its blade. If the night hungers, I will starve it.”
The village priest, recognizing the fire in him, sent Jeb to the only order capable of shaping such fury into purpose. The Knights was an ancient brotherhood dedicated to combating undead horrors. They trained Jeb in the arts of warding, consecration, and the grim anatomy of vampiric predators. He learned to fight with both faith and steel, to read the signs of corruption, and to stand unflinching before creatures that twisted the natural order. Jeb excelled—not because he was the strongest or the fastest, but because he was relentless. He carried his grief like armor and his purpose like a torch.
Recently, troubling reports reached the Knights. The remote town of Nikeras had seen a rise in disappearances, strange nocturnal gatherings, and sightings of pale figures drifting through the fog-choked streets. The pattern was unmistakable to those trained to see it. Jeb volunteered before the council even finished speaking. Jeb doesn’t hunt vampires for glory or vengeance alone. He hunts them because he knows what they take from people—the warmth of a home, the laughter of siblings, the safety of nightfall. He fights so no one else has to kneel beside a dying parent and swear an oath born of grief.
He fights because someone must. Whether Nikeras will be his triumph or his tomb remains to be seen, but one thing is certain. The night has a new enemy. His name is Jebediah Staine.
There was a legend that once said the sun and the moon used to love each other but because of their time differences they don’t meet. So the God Amaunator created the eclipse for them to meet so that people would know that there’s no impossible love.
This hero was born in the eye of a storm. Rainwater carried his bed down a river but stopped at the edge of a squire’s land. His young life was a dream. Hard to believe it started with a tragedy. Orphaned by nature on the banks of a river mouth. He was raised under the watchful care of a now forgotten but honorable man.
As a child, he met Aelin. A platinum haired girl. He was her sun and she was his moon. It wasn’t long before she left the coastal town on a ship. The day she left it rained. Stuck in his head, It filled him with all the words left unsaid. All the things he might be now were adrift at sea. At night he would dream of her.
He would grow taller and strong as an oak. But wherever he journeyed, a gray storm cloud followed him like the ones present the day Aelin had left him.
He went on to leave the squire’s estate. Working odd jobs, he changed his name to Lark Illiad. Following after a renowned demon-hunting knight of the same surname, he aspired to ward off the infernal forces. When he tried to returnhome to the estate he would eventually inherit, it had been burned to the ground. He then drifted from place to place looking for employment. As Lark gained experience as a soldier, guard, mercenary, and weapons instructor his youth came and went. So that day he would ward off evil never arrived.
He remains unremarkable in feats but polished and refined with time, experience, and dedicated training waiting for the day that he as the sun would reunite with Aelin, his moon.
Backstory: Gingermane tried to join the town guard but they always wanted him to patrol outside the wall. After a time Gingermane worked his way up to the gatewatch. But that was the limit to his advancement in the guard as soon after the local Thieves' Guild corrupted him with bribes to smuggle. Not long after he found he could advance within the Thieves' Guild by literally removing his superiors. As a way to make both parties happy the Thieves' Guild offered him large contracts to be an Assassin for them. His weapon of choice is a Heavy Crossbow.
Subclass: Assassin

His name is Jebediah Staine.

backstory:
*sorry this is a long one! Minor spoilers ahead*
When he tried to return home to the estate he would eventually inherit, it had been burned to the ground.
