You might just want to examine/listen at the door again. (The checks before were pretty bad.) It only costs you time. I’m assuming that check specifically only burns a few minutes.
Basically this is how I’m interpreting the rolls for ability checks, so you have a sense of whether a roll was good or not:
To accomplish something of ... difficulty, you need to roll a ... or better.
Markas announces: "It's either barred or too heavy to open quietly"
He'll glance at Pagan sitting on the floor and then walk over to where we came in and keep watch for any unwelcome guests while we decide what to do next.
Any sense of how thick the door is? I'm considering having Zerys throw some "Detect Magic" at it
No, but you guess only a couple of inches.
What is making it difficult to open is its weight (heavier wood, bound in places woth iron bands) and the way it is hung (it touches the floor, so there is a lot of friction between it and the stone floor when you push on it.)

Zerys can cast Detect Magic as an action or as a ritual. As an action you burn a spell slot, but it takes virtually no time to cast. As a ritual it takes 10 minutes, but doesn’t consume a spell slot.
After everyone is rested (Pagan), let's push it open.
Were you assuming a short rest? Or was this just roleplaying on Pagan's part? (Pagan, were you trying to get your breath weapon recharged? That takes a short rest.)
You've probably been sitting still for 10 - 15 minutes (although you don't have a way to track time). If you take a short rest, then your total idle time here is 1 hour.
Also who's doing the pushing? (Brumdal is the strongest.)
... Zerys however detects the soft, sneaky footfalls of one small creature making its way toward you, up the stairs from the room where you fought the battle with the goblins....

Does Pagan notice anything else about the door from his perspective?
Wisdom (Perception): 14
You think you caught a glimpse of light from under the door, but you’re not sure. It might have been a trick of light from your own torchlight.
You’d have to move closer to be sure.

Let's do a ritual cast. Others can grab a quick rest. Very curious if she detects magic past the door.
Zerys say, "Give me a minute..." as she begins the ritual.
You detect no magical auras.
If we were in combat, here is the current map outside the door...
(Each square in the grid is 5 sq. ft.)
(The production value of the maps just got mo better thanks to RPTools.)
I'd recommend pushing over say, knocking. I like the artwork no more squiggly lines !

I'd vote a short rest, that'll get Pagan's heartburn back and, since I don't think any one used a spell slot, we're as loaded as we're going to be.
Short rest, then Brumdal and either Pagan or myself on the door (or all three).
During the short rest you all remain alert and quiet:
Wisdom (Perception)
Amar: 15
Brumdal: 2
Markas: 2
Pagan: 13
Zerys: 16
Except for Pagan apparently...
... Zerys however detects the soft, sneaky footfalls of one small creature making its way toward you, up the stairs from the room where you fought the battle with the goblins....
Zerys, softly tells the party, "foot falls on the stairs ,,, get ready "
