Markas will remind everyone "I heard what sounded like cheering or something from behind this door earlier". He'll walk up to it and press his ear against it.
Zerys hears the sounds of many creatures engaged in somewhat lively banter. Their voices are low and sharp with short efficient bursts of speech. She's not sure, but it sounds like Goblin, but the voices are much deeper than the goblins you just encountered.
Oh Pagan's good friend "Jeremy Short Spear" will keep a torch lit in the back. And Pagan will keep a light on him. Because he is suspicious. And Pagan still doesn't trust him.
I mean how does he know about these Hobgoblins anyway?
Markas will say "Unless someone has a quiet means of either opening or going through this door, we'll need to try and force it open, which means the creatures on the other side might have time to prepare for us."
Brumdal gets ready and breaks the fourth wall by saying, “I hope my Strength check is successful the first time!” He pauses long enough for somone to stop him (and for a reaction from the audience).
"Hmphf", mutters Brumdal. "It feels like I haven't been quite myself for the last few days. But I'm feeling like my old self again. I am not afraid of what lies behind the door. Let's get it open!"
Markas's Perception check: (1d20): 5
With that roll, you feel like you have cotton balls stuffed in your ear. Perhaps the din of battle still rings in your ears...
Who has the best Perception?
For searching, listening, sensing, etc....
*Is proficient with the skill, which means the rolls will get better as the proficiency bonus goes up, which happens sometimes when you level up.
Whenever I put that "Spoilers thing" up; it's not really a spoiler. It's just extra information that you can choose to read or not.
Zerys will give a listen
Zerys's Perception check: (1d20+6): 16

Hahahahaha! The name is sticking.
Markas will say "Unless someone has a quiet means of either opening or going through this door, we'll need to try and force it open, which means the creatures on the other side might have time to prepare for us."
Go for it
Markas will stand ready to make an attempt should Brumdal fail.
Brumdal can make as many attempts as he needs. The only cost is time.
I think only one person with one helper can make an attempt per round.
With that said, Markas could use the Help. That would give Brumdal advantage on the Strength check.
If he succeeds on this round, whatever is on the other side will be surprised. If it takes more than one round, then not so much.
Brumdal and Markas will use their actions in the surprise round, but can still move.
"Hmphf", mutters Brumdal. "It feels like I haven't been quite myself for the last few days. But I'm feeling like my old self again. I am not afraid of what lies behind the door. Let's get it open!"
Maybe Brumdal feels inspired to force the door open?
If Brumdal wants to use his Inspiration then, he could take advantage as well.
I suppose that I could - but if we have multiple efforts to force the door, I might save it until next time.
Bah - what the heck. I'm feeling the inspiration - let's use it and break down this door!
