That sounds like another cool idea, one the townspeople and the sheriff won’t suspect. About how far from town is the farm and in which direction? About 5 miles south of Cairdell is the Happy Dragon Roadhouse, run by a reformed criminal named Scandal Merriweather, who has escaped from his villainous reputation in the big city. Might he know this friend and if so in what capacity?
Mis hails from the Hinalli line of wood elves, from the alpine forests of Skogaviour. After a portal opened in her village, her clan was hunted down by vampires who wanted the magic in their blood. She and her brother were some of the only survivors, and after becoming separated from him, she barely made it to Cairdell alive. Now, she has discovered latent magic abilities - which, as a thief, help her quite a bit. She’s looking for her brother - and more importantly, for revenge on the dark lords who hunted her family.
Also great work! Thanks for helping expand this world and giving it life! Now I’ll have to work on that band of vampiric raiders (or someone else might, which could cause tension if Mia runs into them, he he)

Flins abandoned on the streets of Delemar became a criminal stealing to survive. One day he accidentally stole a relic from a noble and is now on the run out of fear for what would happen to him if he is caught. He now travels from place to place as a hired sword.

Background: Kayn grew up near Cairdell, and at a young age was quickly roped into a criminal group. He worked hard and never got caught-until he was eventually found near the lair of a demon trying to steal from it. Kayn made a deal with the demon-powers and his life in exchange for his eternal service. He has been traveling since, carrying out assignments for his criminal group and juggling work for the demon. He recently found himself near Cairdell to meet with another “benefactor” his patron found.

Name: Aelar Vaelryn Race: Half-Elf Class: Valor bard(will probably take a level of fighter for proficency with shields, Med armour and weapon masteries) Background: TBC
Aelar Vaelryn grew up in the glittering courts of the Delamar regieon, where merchants, politics, and arts all meet. Born to a minor elven noble and a human diplomat, he learned early that reputation was currency and wit was as valuable as steel. Rather than mastering the harp or lute like other bards, Aelar devoted himself to learning swordplay. He studied a style where swordplay and performance intertwined—flourishes, spins, and daring strikes designed to captivate an audience as much as defeat an opponent. Soon he became known in salons and noble gatherings as “The Silver Waltz,” a duelist whose fights looked more like dances.
Aelar left the city and took to the road, after a duel to first blood, ended with a miss step and in death.

Ability scores: 161514151311 Name: Lethira Blackwater Race: Variant Human Class: Cleric (Grave Domain) Background: Acolyte Backstory: Lethira Blackwater follows a quiet belief in Vaelith, the Last Current, an unseen force that carries the dead onward when something causes them to linger. She came to Cairdell after word spread of a strange stillness along a bend of the Sapphire River, where the current slows at dusk, as though something has yet to pass. The locals, unfamiliar with such things, sought out someone who might understand it, and Lethira answered. She believes the bend, now refered to as Blackwater, is a crossing, where the river brushes against the path that leads the dead toward the Eelam of the Dead. Since arriving, she has taken to watching the river at dusk, quietly ensuring that what should pass… does.
Thanks to everyone who showed up and created a character! While I’m no longer accepting applications, feel free to contribute to the lore and story!
To the players with characters, I’ll open a separate thread for the gameplay and such so people don’t get lost. In the meantime, think about these questions (knowing that you may have already answered them with your backstory):
-Do you know any of the other characters before meeting? If so, to what extent?
-Does your character already know people from Cairdell? (I.E. you’re a local or have been in town for a while) If so, to what extent?
-Is there any specific reason why your character is in Cairdell? Feel free to add a narrative reason; if such a person or place doesn’t already exist in some capacity, it can be added.

I would think the farm is a decent size due to the years ago it was acquired. So is 100 acres good? Maybe 200 acres, it would be close enough to town to sell goods and produce. The house would be within 10 miles (a 3/4 day wagon trip travel)?
As for the sheriff etc.al. no they would not know about it, and neither would many others. It would be a place for interrogation and entertaining of "dignitaries". People would show up, but not know where they are. Then return back to the crime lord's home. The dignitaries & the interrogated may not even know they left and arrived.
As for Meriwether, I assume he knows the crime lord, but would the crime lord know Meriwether?
100-200 acres is fine; it’s probably one of the biggest and most well-known farms in the region, with maybe Boeuf the Rancher’s Golden Gates ranch being larger at 300ish acres.
It’s been a while since Scandal retired from crime, so there’s a decent chance that the crime lord has heard of him, although perhaps they haven’t met face to face, and I’m certain they don’t suspect that the other is within a day’s ride of them.
Speaking of which, Scandal is doing his darndest to be go the straight and narrow because the sheriff’s office and town jail is within a stone’s throw of the Happy Dragon, his establishment
