“Ah yes, violence, the lot of the unfortunate and uncivilized. But permit me to educe…” Igor replies. “Hmm… I have ‘Understanding the Extraplanar’ by one Jacen of Vryn; the latest ‘Marriott and Webber’ (the first of its kind written in O’gre); the updated and expanded ‘Total Money Makeover’ by this up-and-coming human author David Ramsey—I think he’s an accountant or investment banker or something; and this archaic work ‘The Diary of God: Creation of the World’—it came locked in metal bands and has a note in Olden Dracon: ‘Do not open this book unless you speak the command word.’ “ He stops abruptly. “And that’s the end of the note. I durst not violate such a directive by the author, for fear of unleashing such a cataclysm one would expect of an entity named God.”

Lethira listens patiently as Igor lists the contents of his tuckerbag, “You keep unusual company, Igor of the Book,” she says lightly. Her attention remaining steady even as the collection moves from scholarly to deeply questionable with almost no warning between them. At the mention of The Diary of God, though, her expression stills slightly. “You were right not to open it,” she says calmly. “Warnings usually exist because someone ignored the last one.” A brief pause follows. “Where did you come across it?”
Religion Check 24 (Nat 20) To determine whether she is familiar with The Diary of God
*She recalls an ancient text, the work of a creator deity transcribed by divine inspiration, whose acolytes were commanded to insert certain runes to protect the deity’s written secrets from evildoers. That runic language has since been lost to time, and it is whispered that only the true followers of God know the word to open it without inviting planar destruction.*
”A wanderer traded it at a distant bazaar. My friend in the Archives of Longscroll acquired it; but he fears the prophecies of the Millenium, and would not maintain his possession of the text; the scribing of the note is his. Personally, mine uneducated position is that much spoken of it is superstition, but that cannot be negated that this tome possesses incredible arcane power. Were I to open it now, such cataclysmic power on this land would…” He searches for an appropriate phrase, finally landing on “…Kablooie.”

Rutrow nods to Letheria's comment on leaving town. "Yep, it was kind of sudden, I got this new pack and trying to see what it includes now it is daylight of day." Yawns slightly, "trying to make sense of it all..."
For a moment, Lethira's attention drifts inward, thoughtful rather than alarmed. Then Igor lands on "kablooie." A soft breath of amusement escapes her before she can quite stop it. “That,” she says calmly, “may be the clearest explanation I’ve heard yet.” The faint humor fades again as naturally as it came.
“I’ve heard of things like that before,” she continues, quieter now. “Texts sealed with language instead of locks. Usually because someone realized too late they shouldn’t have opened them the first time.” Her gaze settles briefly on the satchel over his shoulder again, “You carry it cautiously,” she advises.
Then, after a moment. “May the current carry you onward, Igor of the Book.” With that, Lethira steps away from the roadside conversation and begins making her way back toward the wagon. As she does, she lifts one hand lightly toward the others, a gesture meant to signal no threat.
Igor nods in understanding, also fully understanding the implications of the word “Kablooie.” “May the thoroughfares be congenial, Watcher,” he replies. He leaves, but just before he does so, he pulls a small glass bottle out of his sack, amazingly intact, and hands it to Lethira. “This might be useful; I sampled it, and its savour reeked of carrots.” He visibly shudders. “Not poisonous; simply mine tongue is not partial to root crops.” The bottle appears to hold no more than an ounce of fluid, which was deep amethyst in hue and clear like the Sapphire River on a sunny day. Igor waves to the rest of the group as he continues on his journey.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The road narrows gradually as the afternoon wears on, the giving way to rougher ground, scattered stone, and hills that rise a little closer with every passing mile. Long shadows begin stretching across the road ahead while the wagon creaks steadily onward beside Lethira’s measured stride.
When the figure appears along the roadside, her attention settles on him almost immediately. The stacked shoes catch her eye first. She says nothing at first, simply watching.
Then Flins flicks a silver piece toward the beggar. “That was more generous than he asked for,” she says calmly.
Her attention settles on the beggar again, then briefly along the stretch of road around him. Nothing about the scene feels immediately dangerous, but something still feels off. She steps a little closer toward the roadside, her tone remaining gentle and even.
“You’re a fair distance from Cairdell, or any place for that matter” she says. A small pause follows. “Has the road been unkind to you… or people on it?”

“”The road has not been unkind, but oh my feet!” He wails. His shoes are battered and on the ground as he caresses his smooth feet. “But you have been the first souls I’ve seen.”
His manner seems genuine enough; she doesn’t sense any hostility or ill intent.
