Nearby, a small crowd had gathered around Harknail.
The warforged's formal bow and archaic speech only seemed to deepen the mystery. Villagers whispered among themselves while children peeked from behind their parents.
Eventually, one little girl worked up the courage to approach.
She tugged lightly on Harknail's cloak.
"Master Harknail," She asked, looking up at the towering construct. "Are you a knight?"
Harknail goes down on one knee to bring his face closer to the child's eye level. "Nay lass, I doth be a simple town guard. Though the town I hath guarded doth not be this one. Praying to Helm ere these many years hath granted me blessings. So mayhaps I doth be more than a guard now."
After Yuki slid a coin across the bar, the tavern keeper snatched up the coin without hesitation and filled a mug.
"Name's Tamryn." She said, placing the drink down.
"What sort of information are you after?"
Around the tavern, indifferent conversations continued in low voices.
Manny
Manny crossed the village at a run. The small weatherbeaten cottage stood exactly where he remembered it. Fishing nets hanging outside. Smoke curling from the chimney.
He pushed open the door.
Inside, his mother stood over a cookpot.
His father sat on the floor near a low table. He was cleaning fish, his useless legs folded beneath him. Manny's father had been grievously injured in an avalanche a great many years ago and this had led the mountainous tribe of the goliath to banish him from the tribe. Goliath culture was famously unaccepting of the infirm. The family legend was that Manny's uncle had violently disagreed with the chieftain's decision ... and so he too had been exiled. That was how the family had come to leave the mountains to seek the life of fishermen living along the Sword Coast.
Both looked up.
"Manny?" his mother said.
His father blinked as he looked up.
"Kuliak be praised." He said, offering a prayer to one of the goliath deities that watched over exiles.
Neither had expected their son to walk through that door today.
Daisy and Harknail
Harknail's answers placated the crowd's curiosity.
Fishermen returned to their nets. The curious child was ushered away by her parents.
Within minutes, only a handful of people remained nearby and the harbor settled back into its routine.
From here, several landmarks stand out:
The Wailing Wave [Yuki] A weather-beaten tavern overlooking the harbor. Sailors, smugglers, and fishermen crowded its porch despite the early hour. Blackstone Keep A squat coastal fortress overlooking the village. Lord's Alliance banners hung from its walls. The keep served as both garrison and prison. The Harbormaster's Office A sturdy stone building near the docks where fishermen unloaded their catches and ships paid their fees. Villagers seemed to be gathering there to argue about the lighthouse. The Old Market Square The center of village life. Merchants and traders have already set up their stalls. [If it is in the PHB and costs 50gp or less, it can be found here] Manny's Uncle's House [Manny] Manny has family that reside in Latharl's Lantern. Their house is not far from here.
Manny face lights up in joy seeing his parents. As the fish his dad is cleaning look fresh caught, Manny's joy continiues.
Manny immediately says he is home on leave and explains the lighthouse going dark and his ship wreck from last night. Now sitting down as he finished his experience, and digging into the bowl of food his mother dropped in front of him then asks, "Where are the two boats at? This morning the scuttlebutt on the docks were a few ships were wrecked last night. Are the boats docked elsewhere this morning? I see you have fresh fish, so I assume the boats where safe when the light went out."
Yuki goes up to the bar and slides a gold coin to the woman, "Some ale and information please."

Manny upon hearing the news, just sat down where he stood. "Mom, what does she know?...."
Manny gets back up, says good bye to his former shipmate travelers and and takes off for home to see who is there and what do they know.
Harknail goes down on one knee to bring his face closer to the child's eye level. "Nay lass, I doth be a simple town guard. Though the town I hath guarded doth not be this one. Praying to Helm ere these many years hath granted me blessings. So mayhaps I doth be more than a guard now."

Yuki takes a swig of the ale, then sets it down, "Anything you got on the lighthouse. And any other rumors around here."
