"Good find. I was able to find a short length of rope. I am not sure what uses it will have but at least maybe another option. The sound of flowing water hmm ... I would need to see more of this prison camp to see if that can help us somehow" says Finn.
Soren slips the shard he finds up under the sleeve of his shirt, doing his best to hide it from prying eyes.
"Eventful evening? Well, I just call that Saturday night." Soren says, stepping near the bars and doing what he can to see if he can discern anything about the rushing water, if he can see it, hear it crashing down as like a falls.... Anything he can figure out that could help them in the future.
He slowly creeps along the boundary of the slave pit, eyeballing as he goes, looking for keys, looking for guards, looking for anything that could tell him how well they're being guarded. Is there a desk? A mechanism for opening the door...
"I may have a trick to get us out of here." He says, searching for clues. "Does anyone see anything useful?"
Mirelle tries swinging her "club" experimentally... and proceeds to bonk herself on the head by accident.
"Perhaps this would be a tad bit more useful for another," she whispers to Shade. "I know not if it will be better for you than thy claws... but it will certainly do thee more good than ever it would have done me!"
Shade stifles a laugh, but he gently takes the rusted iron bar from Mirelle, saying, "Yes, it would be better to leave this weapon to another." The iron bar looks much less formidable in his big paw. He picks up the iron bar that he found and says, "I prefer my halberd, but maybe if I used two of them?" He tests the weight, swinging the two of them easily. "Or maybe we could use one of the bars to pry open the door?", he suggests.
Shade asks Mirelle, "If we're able to break out of here, do you think that any of the other prisoners would help fight against our jailers?"

Mirelle....whispers... "But I wouldn't put it past a scoundrel to loose his tongue if he thinks there is a reward... so best choose our allies with care."
Shade suggests, "Then perhaps it is time that we put away our anger and fear and talk to these other prisoners to figure out which ones we can trust? And if some of them have been here longer than us, maybe they've learned something about our jailers or this place that we don't know."
Finn Alder moves towards the center of the cavern and looks to the assortment of prisoners from the orc to the bouncing fungus and in a quiet tone that hovers just above a whisper just to be heard but not by the guards. He sits down and grabs a small rock to write with and says "I am Finn Adler knower of the arcane and I assume everyone here wishes to be away from these less-than-ideal surroundings. Please tell me your names and what do you know of this place. Any small parcel of information could be critical."
He figures best to get to know them in a quickish manner to better plan an escape.
*OOC: @LinkArcher - Is the slave pen "cavern" more like 20' x 30' or 100' x 50'? In particular, can we assume that our initial items came from searching the current chamber, and there's nothing else to find by searching it more? Finally, has the "expedition" group been in this pen for all 7 days, or do the drow sometimes take us out?*
Soren looks back, watching as Finn starts trying to communicate with the other prisoners. Unsure of what else to do, and knowing that they can't stay here forever, he again turns his attention outwards, beyond the bars... And then decides to do something totally reckless.

*OOC: @LinkArcher - Thanks! Since the Drow take us out of the pen to do chores, could you describe what we've seen of the area outside the pen where they've taken us? We've heard "rushing water far below," but that could mean that our pen opens out to a series of narrow tunnels, some of which slope downward or have stairs carved into the rock, which eventually down to the water. Or maybe our pen is a cave in the side of a vertical shaft or pit above an underground river with a narrow ledge (natural or constructed) that leads to other chambers where we work. FYI - I'm probably going to keep asking questions until I have a clearer understanding of what the PCs have seen with their own eyes. 😇 Maybe you could upload a map that shows what we've seen so far to imgur or flickr and post the link here? A picture is worth a thousand words -- or a dozen posts!*
The female dwarf and the gnome rolling dice look up.
While Finn talks to the dwarf and gnome, Shade stands, stretches, and then approaches the orc who's pacing angrily. He says (in Common), "Walking back-and-forth will only wear you out. Better to conserve your energy and nurse your anger until you have an opportunity to use it. I am Shade. I paced, too, when the dark elves first brought me here."
Shade knows nothing about Orcs. *History: 4(in game log)* He assumes that, whenever the party escapes, they're going to have to fight their way past the Drow. In his conversation with the Orc, Shade is trying to determine whether the Orc would be willing to work with the party and the other prisoners and fight against the Drow. An extra fighter could be an asset in any escape plan, but if the Orc turns his anger toward the party or the other prisoners, Shade knows that it may fall to him to take down the Orc.
*Insight: 23 (in game log) - attempting to read the Orc's response or reaction to his words. Would the Orc be willing to fight the Drow? How much trouble is the Orc going to give us?*
