Fuzzpaw puts his hand down after being ignored and shrugs.
I suppose he's too busy right now to answer my question, he thinks to himself.
He nods to himself as he walks away from Cass and towards the townspeople. He smiles encouragingly to each one he meets and asks them if they are doing alright. Their responses vary, but all tell the same tale. They are scared. Fuzzpaw tries his best not to look sad or scared himself. Putting on a brave face might be the best thing he can do for the people in this situation. As he says good bye to a group of children, he turns and bumps into JoJo.
"Oh, hullo! I didn't see you there," he says to JoJo, "Say, weren't you one of the people who were fighting the kobolds earlier? You all looked like proper adventurers from the stories I've read! My name's Fuzzpaw. Well, my nickname's Fuzzpaw. My father gave it to me and I like it better than the name I was born with."
He extends his hand towards JoJo and continues, "What do we do now? This is all very new to me and you all seem experienced in this sort of thing."
The gnome looks up to Fuzzpaw, shakes his hand back, saying, "JoJo is my name. Nice to meet you as well. ...as to what do, I guess volunteer to find towns people and bring them to the safety of this place...at least that is what the governor is looking for.
...as for experience, I have none, just like you, but I have been living outside for my childhood, not reading books."
Cass slips two fingers into his mouth and lets out a piercing whistle that cuts through the noise of the keep, drawing the attention of nearby guards, militia, and anyone else within earshot. Once enough eyes turn toward him, he raises his voice with the practiced command of a battlefield chaplain addressing weary soldiers. “The governor believes there are still townsfolk trapped beyond these walls, and every minute we wait is another minute they spend alone with raiders and dragons. We have a chance to get out there, bring them back, and learn what these cultists are truly after.”
His gaze sweeps across the assembled faces before settling on no one in particular. “Knew a sergeant named Owen Black who used to say that courage is rarely the loudest man in the room, but it usually steps forward first.” Cass folds his hands over the head of his mace and nods toward the gate. “I am going, and I would welcome anyone willing to come with me and bring our people home.”
JoJo finishes his talking with Fuzzpaw, to listen for the call of arms. When Cass is done, JoJo gives Fuzzpaw a playful backhanded slap, "I told you they need volunteers."
JoJo takes a step forward and grabs Fuzzpaw's bicep and announces loudly, "I JoJo and my new buddy Fuzzpaw volunteer to help save the citizens of this fine town" JoJo with a grip on Fuzzpaw continues walking toward Cass. (Dragging Fuzzpaw if he resists, or just barely keeping contact if he moves forward willingly)
JoJo whispers to Fuzzpaw as they start walking, "Remember, the worse that can happen ...is the town gives you a hero's funeral... if the dragon kills you. "

Hello hello, I am Mr. Dicestone, a fellow adventurer and Planeswalker, enjoying the realm of wonders and wizardry and clicky math rocks. When not crafting the wonderful and whimsical world of Dan-thurás, I’m also working on custom spells and subclasses (hopefully coming soon to a forum or campaign near you) and other enjoyable settings for people to experience or staring with my third eye into space, rolling dice for no reason
Cass watches JoJo usher Fuzzpaw forward with a faint smile before adjusting the strap of his shield. His attention settles on Fuzzpaw with quiet reassurance. “You already chose to stand between strangers and danger tonight, and I have presided over enough funerals to know they are a poor substitute for coming home, so let us make certain we disappoint the undertaker instead.”

*DM wheezing with laughter* Estabar the Red laughs heartily, slaps Cass on the back, and says jovially, “Couldn’t have spoken any better, friend. Anyone with a sense of humor like that is a friend of mine, any day.”

Neega lets Cass speak. While his voice carries across the keep, she moves to the parapet and looks out over Greenest. One hand rests on the cold stone, the other near the hilt of her sword as her eyes track the streets below, the movement of raiders, and the dragon circling in the distance, searching for any gaps in the ring around the keep.
She watches long enough to mark the movement below, then turns back toward Nighthill and Escobar and says, “The raiders have boxed the keep in. If there’s a quiet way out and back in, where does it put us? We were lucky not to draw their attention getting through the gates this time.”
Neega points down toward the burning town beyond the wall and continues "“Do you have any word on where the townsfolk are? Temple? Inn? Town hall? Anywhere people would run when violence comes to their front doors?”
Her gaze shifts briefly toward Cass, JoJo, and Fuzzpaw as volunteers begin stepping forward, then returns to the governor, “We need all the information you can give us. Courage gets people moving. Solid intel and a good plan get them back alive.”
(OOC: Based on the groups we saw coming in and your description, I assume the raiders are boxing in the keep. Is there any other useful information Neega can see from the wall?)
Perception Check: Dice rolls not yet available for this section.
As Neega looks over the wall her jaw tightens, and one hand lifts from the stone to press against her temple. She winces, just once, then turns the motion into a rough drag of her fingers across the side of her shaved scalp and red mohawk, as if wiping away the grim of battle. After a breath, her hand drops back to the wall and her resolve returns.
