He wasn't sure how much time had passed. Centuries? Eons? It all blended together after the first few hundred years.
Immortality. Many dreamed of it. He saw it as a burden. A burden he had taken on for one reason: revenge. Revenge against the dark elves who took his home from him. Revenge against the woman who had taken his daughter from him. And, most of all, revenge against Lolth, the filthy spider that dared call itself a god, the one who stood behind and laughed as his world was destroyed.
But time had taken urgency. Had taken even desire. Now what was left was a melancholy, dusty skeleton. His empty eye sockets often stared vacantly for days as he sat contemplating everything and nothing. He wondered, sometimes, if it was worth considering simply allowing entropy to claim him.
One day, though, something changed... as he ran a mummified hand over his extensive collection of tomes, his hand stopped on one. One that he hadn't seen before. There was no dust on the cover... it was completely brand new. Slowly, he pulled the mysterious tome off of his shelf... the one that quietly sang to him, calling him to take up his staff and do something great once again...
Hello, all! My character, Lord Akkron, Lich King of the Shaded Isle, has been getting rather tired lately. Would you, as a DM, be willing to help me to give this old lich something to do that will take his mind off the eternity stretching before him? I'm open to any kind of plot, but I would love to have Lord Akkron on a heroic mission rather than a typical "evil lich tries to take over the world" situation.
I'm also fine with either a one-on-one campaign or inviting others to join.
Thank you for your attention! Hope to game with you soon.
I know “lich king PC” is an unusual pitch, but I’m very much looking for a collaborative story rather than a power trip. I’d be happy to work with a DM to scale Akkron appropriately, limit resources, or adapt the premise to fit the campaign.
Mostly, I just think there’s a lot of fun potential in an ancient undead archmage being dragged out of his centuries-long depression by a strange new purpose.
Still looking for a DM, and possibly other players if someone wants to build a party around this idea!

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Just to clarify the pitch a little: I know “lich king PC” can sound like a lot, especially for a DM. I’m not expecting to drop a full-strength monster-stat lich into someone’s campaign and demand the world bend around him. I’m very happy to work with a DM to make Akkron playable.
I’d also be completely fine starting with a one-shot or short mini-arc rather than a full campaign. The core idea I’m interested in is an ancient undead archmage, long past his original revenge, being pulled out of centuries of melancholy by some strange new purpose. Heroic, tragic, weird, cosmic, gothic, political — I’m open to a lot.
So if any DM likes the concept but is worried about balance or scope, I promise I’m flexible. I’m looking for a collaborative story, not a power trip.

Sounds good to me, just didn't want to overload you if your hands were full :) I would be happy to have you DM for me on this as well. Would you like to find some more players or go one-on-one?

Just giving this a small bump.

Why not ask me directly, I'm literally doing the OP campaign.
Through all the multiverse, I am The Singulairity.
