Rixton heads into the tunnel, which is utterly dark. The floor is icy and uneven, making for difficult terrain. He follows the winding path for over 100' and realizes that there's no end in sight. Does he continue on his solo mission? Or will others be joining him as he presses forward?
I return back to the others and inform them of what I found. "Two routes fork off about 200 feet in. It is dark. I can keep scouting, but this will be safer with some backup."
"No problem, Harshnag will obviously have to stay back but we can come. I'll have to make some light, maybe Ladrian, Vigan and I can go slightly behind you and Carrow to give you help if you need but not give you away?"
Andor casts light on a stone to carry along providing light for those who need it.

Leading Carrow and, further behind, Andor and Ladrian, I head back into the tunnel. At the fork, "Let's try going left," I say, pointing to the south tunnel.
(If Vigan returns from viewing the other chambers or anyone wants to stay behind, I'll edit this post!)
In this post, I will attempt to make a sensible chronology out of posts 1770 through 1775; Phade and MindDetective may wish to edit their last posts after reading what lies below.
Rixton explores approximately two-hundred feet of the tunnel and, after coming to the fork, decides that he should inform the others. He carefully makes his way back to the room where the others are waiting, and as he exits the ice and gloom within the narrow passageway to rejoin the others, something unexpected happens. For Rixton, Carrow, Andor, and Ladrian, this unexpected event is the sudden appearance of a wall of stone that seals the four of them in the room. The magical wall fills the archway that serves as the entrance to the room; they are, therefore, utterly cut off from accessing the hallway.
For Vigan and Harshnag--who are outside the room and walking northward in the hallway--all of the archways that lead into the 60' x 60' rooms on this floor are instantaneously sealed shut by the wall of stone, which means they are now standing in a hallway with no exits (except the two at the far south end near the stone giant statue). The appearance of the stone walls occur simultaneously with the appearance of a 40' diameter granite sphere that magically phases out of the wall at the north end of the hall. The reason for the sloped floor becomes frighteningly apparent to Vigan and Harshnag, for the stone sphere is rolling toward them at an unbelievable rate; they recognize immediately that the sphere will overtake them long before they could reach the safety of the southern end of the hall. The frost giant and the goliath have only two options to avoid the granite sphere: jump over it in some way or attempt to lie on the ground where the floor meets the wall and, thus, allow the sphere to roll by harmlessly. (DC 12 DEX save or take 68 bludgeoning damage)
DEX save for Harshnag: 15
Harshnag growls an old curse in Giant as he dives to the floor and rolls toward the western wall, where he safely dodges the granite sphere as it rolls rapidly past him.
About ready to turn around and lead the other three back into the tunnel, the sudden appearance of a stone wall from behind and blocking us in startles me. "Oh, Vigan," I mutter. Then I tilt my head in a half shrug. "Hey, it wasn't me this time."
I watch the wall for a moment. "Sometimes these spells time out. Vigan might need some healing if these walls predict some any danger...which I suspect they do."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vigan
DEX save: 12
Reacting slower than Harshnag to the giant granite sphere, Vigan finds himself lacking the agility to dodge it in time. He grits his teeth to prepare for the blow that will surely kill him, until he finds himself yanked westwards by his hand, as if grabbed by some invisible creature of great strength. He opens his eyes to find himself prone, alongside Harshnag, as the sphere rolls harmlessly past.
Recovering, the goliath notes that the hand he was pulled by was the hand wearing his new ring, and a wry smile crosses his face.
2/3 charges used on the ring. Fun fact, I have exactly 68 hp left.
Harshnag and Vigan successfully avoid being pulverized by the granite sphere, which continues at full speed down the hallway until it reaches the statue of the stone giant. From Vigan's perspective, the granite sphere suddenly stops and then begins rolling very slowly in the opposite direction, returning to where it originated. Just how the sphere is rolling uphill against the force of gravity is unclear, however. Vigan and Harshnag once again lie on the floor and press themselves against the wall (no DEX save needed) as the granite ball slowly rolls past them. When they stand, they see that the statue of the stone giant has become animated and is pushing the granite sphere northward. After pushing the sphere into the wall, where it magically vanishes, the stone giant statue lumbers back down the hallway and returns to its original position, with arms outstretched and palms up. The moment it does so, all the stone walls disappear and access to each of the giant bunk rooms is once again open.
Harshnag enters the room where the others are standing and says, "Not one more step north in that hallway."
The goliath dusts himself off as he gets to his feet, only to see Rixton return from the expedition into the passageway. "Those statues are alive, or magic; the one at the end of the hall nearly killed us. This place is not a welcoming one."
Trying to clear his mind of the near-death experience, he continues talking. "What of the passageway?"
"Rixton got scared in the dark and came back, then you set off traps and we got locked in the room, we were just going back in with Rixton but we wanted to make sure you two weren't smeared across the floor first." He says winking at Rixton as he does.

Rixton scrutinizes the walls, floor, and ceiling as he creeps northward at a snail's pace. He detects absolutely no visible or audible signs of a trap or the means that might trigger one. Nonetheless, as Rixton sets his right foot down, each room is once again sealed off by a wall of stone and the granite sphere magically phases out of the wall at the north end of the hallway. The intrepid monk gauges the distance to the southern end of the hall, where he might flee safely. Could he possibly outrun the rolling sphere?
(Because he was actively looking for a trap and, furthermore, had knowledge of the nature of the trap, Rixton has the initiative in this situation. He may take an action before the sphere does)
Rixton (I think I figured everything I need to know out):
"Ah," I say looking at the boulder and then quickly over my shoulder at the statue. "Ah."
I run to the wall and lay down in the corner to let the ball roll past (for my action?). Then I stand up after it passes and jog down slope after the ball, activating the immovable rod at chest height in the middle of the hallway (between rooms 3 & 4).
Rixton wedges himself into the ninety-degree angle created by the meeting of the floor and the wall, allowing the enormous granite sphere to pass over him and continue southward down the hall. Once again, the stone giant statue comes to life, stops the sphere, and begins to push it slowly uphill toward the north end of the hall. Before the statue can push the granite ball very far, however, Rixton runs south and activates his Immovable Rod, which stops the sphere in its tracks.

Rixton:
The tunnel is oppressive and never-ending, it seems. Still, I press on, vowing to return after another 100 feet of nothing.

Vigan
After watching Rixton disappear down the tunnel and out of sight, the goliath decides to explore the rest of the rooms to the north of the group.

After another 100' or so, Rixton sees that the tunnel splits into two separate paths.

"You big lug," I say, relieved to see Vigan and Harshnag are okay. "Let me see what you did."
Very, very carefully, I will examine without advancing farther than Vigan did up the hallway to see where the trigger for the trap is.
