Ladrian tries hard to keep his mount calm: Animal Handling 10
If successful he provides Bardic Inspiration to Rixton and shouts "Xolkin! What brings you to this part of the world? You came to join our party?" he asks
Drawing his glaive, the goliath keeps his horse pointed north-east, and scans the trees to try and determine whether the spellcaster made himself visible, or merely hid out of view.
Perception: 11
Dodge action for both Vigan and Nyx.
Noting Xolkin and company appearing from the east, he grumbles to Rixton "This a bit too convenient, be on your guard."
Irena bucks as I shelter my head from falling rock and ice. It takes mere moments to gain control of the reins again but Andor, Ladrian, and Vigan are already in motion by the time I have Irena calming down. Bruises and welts begin to form on my arms, back, and legs.
And then I see Xolkin. I sigh. More important is my concern is for Larg. I take Lord Kirby's rein and lead him and Larg away from the road towards cover (P18). Knowing Xolkin's tactics, I scan the area for his hidden allies as I move (Bonus action - Eye for Detail: Perception 12

Carrow
"Andor stay close" the ranger fearful the Spellcaster is being lured away spurs his horse after him (move to H12) stopping he sees three riders emerge from the trees, Xolkin, this fool needs dealing with. (Hunters Mark on Xolkin) Drawing his bow Carrow fires twice at the Zhentarims pawn.
The startled horses quickly settle down after the ice storm ceases. Vigan scans the area, hoping to locate the spell caster, but sees no sign of him.
Rixton leads Larg off the road while simultaneously keeping his eyes peeled for additional enemies. Other than Xolkin and his two companions, Rixton sees no one else.
Carrow immediately seeks to neutralize the approaching riders, especially Xolkin, but both of his arrows streak over the heads of the three Zhentarim.
(Round 2 concludes; Andor's round 3 action is next, followed by the Zhentarim. As posted in the OOC thread, I need a better understanding of Andor's location before I post an updated map)
The flames lick the tree where the enemy caster was lying in wait but the enemy, although certainly wounded had disappeared. As the commotion to the east grew Andor suddenly realised that he might have the answer with him all along, pushing his horse on towards the last known position of his foe he uses the time to do two things, firstly he creates a group of mirror images, which appear as he dismount he then looks down at the tiny creature poking out from his saddlebag.
"Sinari, time to be a hero, fly over there, if you see anyone hiding hover over them high enough up that they can't reach you. Take care." Andor points in the direction the magic user was last in.
Andor approaches the burning tree, dismounts, and suddenly three copies of himself appear. The sorcerer's tressym leaps into the air, spreads its wings, and immediately turns to the east, apparently in pursuit of something that no one else can see. Sinari isn't yet hovering, however, as Andor commanded.
Xolkin and the two additional Zhentarim draw a bit closer to the group, but not as aggressively as they could. "Hold your fire," says Xolkin to the others.
He then calls out, "I have not forgotten that you spared my life. And so, I feel obligated to avoid taking yours. Surrender the dwarf. Go your way. Let's all of us live to see another sunrise."
Then, after a short pause, Xolkin says, "Fire on us one more time and the mage will make sure you never do so again."
The three Zhentarim have their crossbows ready but do not attack.
(Round 3 actions for Carrow, Ladrian, Rixton, and Vigan are next)
Updated map (dotted line indicates Sinari's flight path):
"Aye, that could be," I say loudly to Xolkin. "Although my personal dealings with them have been...mixed. I have a few questions before handing you the dwarf. He doesn't care for you or I, as far as I can tell. What is your business with him? And which of his names do you know him by?"
"My business with the Weevil is the same as yours: collecting that reward," Xolkin replies. "All that gold will go a long way in helping certain people to forget what happened at Nightstone."
The goliath spurs Nyx into a trot towards Xolkin, glaive still in hand, eyes focused on the group of three horsemen.
"Last time we met we had you trussed up like a chicken. In fact, you were a whisker from us simply killing you and leaving you to hang by your feet. And here you are threatening us. I'd say you were brave or stupid, but you've begged for your life at least once in the past few weeks, so I think that rules out the first option. Turn around, go back the way you came, and never cross us again, otherwise we kill you and you friends, strip your corpses bare, and leave you for the wolves. That I promise you."
Intimidation: 1
Move to line between R/S14. Action still dodge for both Vigan and Nyx. I've rolled for intimidation, but if you would consider that my action, Vigan's above speech is merely fluff before the fight. I thought it was a good threat though, so I'd let it slide, personally. ;)
*Watch me roll a low number now. :) *Edit - behold my mighty dice!!!
**As an aside, am I suitably rippling with muscle, and have a big enough weapon, that I could use strength for my intimidation check rather than charisma, or would that be a physical action, like snapping chains or ripping a tree from the ground?

Ladrian
Calmly looking at Xolkin he says "Xolkin, my dear friend. I believe something got lost in translation with Vigan over there, so kindly allow me to deliver his message. Xolkin, the last two times we met, we defeated you and your numerous friends. You had more colleagues than what you have now. We allowed you to live, because we aren't inherently evil, but our patient does have limits." he turns to the other two allies of Xolkin "Did he ever told you what happened to his entire squad?" he resumes his talk with Xolkin "You see, during our travelings we've had the honor to meet a dragon that blessed us and imbued us with terrible and powerful magic, so in case you want to continue this stupid quarrel be assured we will be required to erase any who stands in our away. And because this dragon isn't particularly nice, he will send us and other minions of his to eradicate you faction, the Zhentarim. Pretty nasty temper he has, really." he gestures with his palms up casting Minor Illusion with the largest and meanest dragon he can, breathing fire to a miniature Xolkin and his friends, melting them to ashes, "But, there' is an alternative, retreat now, claim you didn't find us and you and your faction will live to fight another day. And you have my word we will not tell our Dragon what happened. What say you? You know we aren't evil and without compassion."
I'm a bit unsure on what to roll here, since I might have gone a bit too far.
Anyway:
Deception: for the dragon patron part -> 19 Intimidation: for his colleagues and the story about the fate of Xolkin previous band -> 17 Persuasion: for the last sentence to let us go without a fight -> 27
Carrow pushes his horse towards Andor keeping an eye on the others and more importantly his immediate surroundings, if things turn sour this Spellcaster muts be found. Perception: 7
Coming to a stop the Ranger casts an eye over the ground for recent movement, tracks perhaps or even carelessness could betray his new foe, for an invisible Man can still leave traces behind.
Survival 8
Advantage if Human or Elven 7
OOC: Will move in a straight line north towards Andor as far as I can.
As I talk to Xolkin, I draw my short sword and dismount Irena. I throw her reins over a branch of the tree and make sure that Larg's lead is tied to Irena's saddle. "Well, aren't you just the bell of the ball," I mutter to Larg as I listen to Vigan and Ladrian.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Xolkin stares at Vigan and listens silently to the goliath's words before saying, "Remarkable. Since our last meeting your mouth has grown larger than Rixton's."
Xolkin's comrades grin and chuckle for a moment but then turn their attention to what Ladrian has to say. They watch, somewhat intrigued by his illusory magic.
Insight (w/ advantage because Ladrian's story is just a bit far-fetched): Xolkin 22 | Comrade 1 6 | Comrade 2 19
"You've been bested by these fellows in the past, eh, Xolkin?" asks the Zhent to Xolkin's left.
The rider to Xolkin's right chimes in. "Conveniently omitted from our discussions, it would seem."
Xolkin glowers at each of his companions momentarily. "Yes, and left unmentioned for good reason. But dragon or not, we have our orders." Xolkin then turns his look upon Ladrian. Hesitantly he repeats the words, "We have our orders."
Xolkin's fear of the five adventurers is clearly outweighed by his fear of what will happen to him if he were to fail the Zhentarim once again.
The Zhent to Xolkin's left (#2) raises his crossbow, points it at Vigan, and speaks again. "Yes, we've no other choice..."
In the meantime, Carrow spurs his horse northward and joins Andor near the burning tree. Rixton and Larg draw slightly closer to a large tree where Rixton makes sure his horse, Lord Kirby, and Larg are securely tied anchored.
(Round 3 concludes. Andor's next action(s) will be the first of round 4; the NPC's will follow)
Sinari darts through the air, flying directly east. After covering a distance of approximately 60', the tressym arcs upward and begins to hover in one place (over square R3).

Rixton:
"Hello, Xolkin. Did the Zhentarim accept your return or did you find new people to cause trouble with?"
"Larg," I whisper to the dwarf. "A lot of people want your company. Should I hand you over to Xolkin?"
I look into Larg's eyes to judge his reaction.
Insight: 9
Larg narrows his gaze at Rixton and says sneeringly, "I'd prefer that all of you stick one another with your swords. Fight it out, giant killer!"
Xolkin speaks up. "The Zhentarim do more good than you know, Rixton."
Rixton:
I eye Andor and his tressym tracking the mage.

"Oh, I'm sure," I say. "How did you know the Weevil was on the Long Road traveling to Mirabar?"
"Ah, that would betray a few folks in our network," Xolkin replies.
