Vondal whispers back, "Not easily, brother. But they do in time. It's all a matter of putting in the effort, and having faith."
Despite the less than warm welcome, Vondal offered a smile and a joyful wave to any passerby. And no little shower could kill his mood. Though once the group began to bed down for the night, he made sure to clean off his shoes and pants as much as possible to keep from being weighed down.
Yet, once everyone beds down for the night, he gets this real distant look about him as he stared off into space. He still eats when offered food, but is less dainty and more brisk about it. He is otherwise quiet, and would eventually fall asleep sitting up if left unbothered.
Einar again beds down under the wagon, and wakes early for third watch.

The off-and-on showers throughout the day have made it difficult to get a fire going tonight; there doesn't seem to be any dry wood. After working and working, the small flame they produce provides enough heat to slowly warm some food by, but most of what the dwarves get from their effort is smoke. About an hour after sundown, Nif, Einar and Vondal bed down while Bron and Karl take first watch. Unfortunately, neither dwarf is able to keep their mind on the task at hand. When Nif wakes himself at the end of first watch, he finds his two friends practically asleep. He rouses them enough to send them to bed and he begins second watch. The wind is still and the passing clouds allow a nice amount of starlight and moonlight. Nif is very alert. When he begins hearing noises in the woods to the southeast, he also notices that the oxen have begun to fidget. The noises sound like more than one thing moving through the trees, trying to be quiet.
Nif quietly picks up his crossbow, stands up and walks over towards where Karl is sleeping (Stealth 25)
When he gets to Karl, he shakes him on the shoulder and whispers, "Uncle, uncle, there is something in the woods to the southeast. Wake everyone up, and I will return to my place and see if I can spot them."
Nif then returns to his spot by the tree, and scans where the sound is coming from, to try and spot whatever is making the noise. (Perception 20)

As no one except Einar and Vondal really specified where they were sleeping (vaguely), I'll take some artistic license.
Nif creeps like a cat walking on velvet to Karl's side and gives the sleeping dwarf a little shake. "Uncle, uncle," he whispers, "there is something in the woods to the southeast. Wake everyone up, and I will return to my place and see if I can spot them." Karl gets to his feet and heads southwest toward the wagon, under which Einar is snoozing. Nif decides to quickly tiptoe northwest to Bron, nudge him with the toe of his boot, and tell him to wake. He then hurries — still silently — to the southwest corner of their campsite. Just as Karl is waking Einar (Einar is still prone underneath the wagon), Bron has gotten to his feet, and Einar has raised his crossbow in preparation (Einar can have a surprise action if he so chooses prior to round one), five wolves step out of the trees and make eye contact with Einar. Vondal is still snoozing, seating by the fire with his back to the new arrivals.

If you have questions about the map, feel free to ask.
The rocks do not obscure vision. They are low to the ground or ground level. Except for the one in the northwest corner, which is why it is difficult terrain.
Loose String. Your string comes loose. You lose this attack. Starting next turn you can make a sleight of hand check DC15 to fix it. Each attempt takes one turn.
Seeing the wolves step out from the woods, Nif lines up his crossbow, and calls out, "Scram! Go! Nothing here for you!" Just as he is about to pull the trigger, the string comes loose on one side of the crossbow. It snaps across the weapon, almost catching Nif's arm in its whipping arc. The arrow flies up into the air and falls back to earth at the dwarf's feet. The wolves begin to growl, and Nif begins to think unfriendly thoughts about Gundren.
Vondal makes a noise as he is awoken by Nif's yell.

Bron's eyes widen as he looks upon the wolves. He looks at them, then at the rocks behind him, then back at them. Finally, his cowardice wins him over and he grabs his sack and runs behind the rocks, trying to hide himself.
Bron's eyes widen as he looks upon the wolves. He looks at them, then at the rocks behind him, then back at them. Finally, his cowardice wins him over and he grabs his sack and runs behind the rocks, trying to hide himself. He manages to wedge himself between the tall rocks, not hiding himself as well as he had anticipated, but hoping the rocks will provide enough cover from the threat.
The wolves, growling and snarling, slowly stalk toward the dwarves. Two are looking in the direction of Karl and Einar while the remaining three have their eyes on Nif.
For Einar's turn: Einar will roll out from under the wagon and climb to his feet, grabbing his shield and axe from the side of the wagon as he readies to meet the approaching wolves in melee.
"GET BACK, YOU MONGRELS!!"
Movement: crawl 5ft to D11, stand up from prone (If possible with only 2.5 feet of movement left after standing, he will finish his move by entering E11.) Action: Einar will Dodge as he sees the two wolves approaching. Other: If it's possible for Einar to both don his shield and draw his axe, he will do both. If not possible, he will prioritize equipping the shield.

Karl picks up The Pacifier and wanders over to square H9. When he gets there he waves The Pacifier in the air and says "Puppies time for you to go home before you get hurt!"
For Vondal's Turn: Vondal snaps awake, but doesn't immediately move until the sound of growls draws his attention to the wolves. Rather than seem panicked by the circumstances, he carefully draws himself into a defensive crouch, Chaf Cutter in hand, and a sleepy grin. "Think we might to move to cart, Uncle... Also, have you seen -- Oh nevermind. I see'm."Vondal says after glancing back towards Bron's general direction. In his wish to keep the wolf's focused on him and Karl, Vondal steps over to H7 and let's his axe Blue Wolf. Though if its just outside of 20ft, he'll Ready the axe instead for the first wolf to step within that range.

Einar, since you used your action to dodge, I'm going to say you could use your bonus action to grab your shield (essentially donning it), but not both your shield and sword.
Round 2: Bron (12/12) • Blue (9/9) & Orange (12/12) • Green (11/11) • Red (7/7) • Black (11/11) • Karl (16/16) & Nif (Crossbow broken, 10/10) • Einar (16/16) • Vondal (attack readied, 12/12)
Having gotten over his initial sense of fear, Bron stands up and looks at the wolives. His eyes dart to his sack, which he left by the fire, and darts toward it.
(Bron will dash to his bag and, if he could do this as an object interaction, will snatch it up.)

Bron, I need you to give me coordinates when you move. I went ahead both of these turns and put you where I think you'd want to end up, but please give me a square in the future. Thanks!
As the five dwarves attempt to avoid confrontation by either staying out of harm's way or trying to scare the potential threat away, the wolves seem undeterred. They end their skulking and attack at once as a pack. The next-to-smallest wolf (blue) sprints forward (H9) and attacks Karl (Attack: 7, Damage: 8), ducking under his attempt to deflect the attack and biting into one of his legs. (Karl, you need to roll a DC 11 Strength saving throw or you're knocked prone.) The largest wolf (orange) darts forward (F12) at Einar, the brush between them not impeding its forward movement by much. It lunges at the shield-wielding dwarf (Attack: 24), but the make-shift shield is enough to block the wolf's mighty bite. A wolf a little smaller than the largest (green) runs northwest at Vondal. As his attacker gets within attack range, Vondal strikes first with Chaff Cutter, cutting a very large gash into the wolf's shoulder as it leaps at him (doing 7 damage). (Attack: 23, Damage: 11) While the dwarf's attack is a very heavy blow to the wolf, the open maw of the canine catches Vondal across the throat, cutting deep and into his carotid artery, dropping Vondal with one mortal blow. Ignoring its own injuries, it continues toward Bron (G6). The smallest wolf (red) follows behind the larger, preparing to attack Vondal as well, but when he drops, it continues northwest (F6) and attacks Bron. (Attack: 14; attack advantage and damage rolls below) After watching the (green) wolf take Vondal down with one attack and then charge him as well, Bron fumbles with his sack, trying to defend himself from the first wolf. Because of this, the second wolf (red) is able to get in under his defenses and bite his calf. The fifth wolf (black), also just a little smaller than the largest wolf, also runs directly at Einar. As he is still ducked behind his shield after the other attack, the fifth wolf uses his distraction to its advantage. (Attack: 16) But the dwarf, being more aware of his surroundings that the wolf realized, redirects his shield and blocks the new attack as well.
I just realized Red should also have attacked with advantage because of Pack Tactics. Second attack roll: 10, Damage: 6
At the end of Black's turn:
Round 2: Bron (6/12) • Blue (9/9) & Orange (12/12) • Green (4/11) • Red (7/7) • Black (11/11) • Karl (7/16) & Nif (Crossbow unstrung, 10/10) • Einar (16/16) • Vondal (0/12, unconscious: 0 saves/0 fails)
Bron will also help Nif with his fire.
