Working as a group, Balasar, Gong, and Guan Hao managed to discover six magical items that caught their attention:
1. +1 Glaive (200 gp)
2. +1 Greatsword (600 gp)
3. +1 Quarterstaff (300 gp)
4. Potion of Animal Friendship (400 gp)
5. Potion of Water Breathing (500 gp)
6. A spell scroll* (100 gp)
The prices listed are opening offers by the traders, merchants, and adventurers who are selling. You may persuade, bribe, or intimidate to attempt to lower the price of any given item. You could even try to steal the item. You may also ask questions or make checks to learn more about the sellers. Fair warning, some sellers will be more (or less) easily swayed by different types of checks, bribes, or threats.
*As none of the three involved in the search are arcane-trained, the spell scroll seems like gibberish.
We also haven't reported in to Van Der Wuulf yet, so we should probably do that before we get too caught up in shopping.
👍
I'll save everyone some trouble on this: a messenger chases the party down to deliver an invitation to see Lord Marius shortly after their return to the city. Upon your arrival to the meeting, you find Lord Marius's cousin is also in attendance. With suitable congratulations, both men bestow upon each member of the party 250 gp and a potion of healing (greater).

Additionally, the party finds that they are becoming recognized locally. About 1 person in 5 that they meet in the city has heard of them and something of their exploits.
Game Mechanics: All party members will now have a chance (20%) to gain a bonus (or, less often (4%), a penalty) to social interactions with residents of the city. The DM will handle these rolls (though I may add flavor text to indicate if/when this is effecting an interaction). As your fame grows, so will your area of influence and your chances of bonuses and penalties (as well as the numeric value of a bonus or penalty).
[And can I just mention how much I LOVE DnD Beyond right now? Never had smoother leveling up / inventory management outside of a video game. Truly the future of RPGs. I should write marketing copy for them.]
Describe the vendor / circumstances where Guan Hao finds the glaive?

I totally agree with the spoiler!!!
The young woman selling the Glaive apprears to be a traveling merchant who set up a small booth just outside the city's northern gate (a common place for those with larger wagons to hawk their goods). She is also the one selling the unidentified scroll. While she may have other magical items - and certainly has mundane goods - these are the only two items she specifically showed you during your initial interaction.

Totally agree with the spoiler as well! I ended up purchasing needed content when I leveled up rather than switch back to the old way of doing things.
The +1 greatsword catches Balasar's attention. Is it being sold by a trader, merchant, or adventurer?
An adventurer.
What has Balasar been able to glean about this adventurer during their initial interaction? Where did Balasar encounter this adventurer, and did they say how long they plan to stay in town?

Guan Hao isn't the sort to hector, haggle, or intimidate at a market stall - especially not one run by a young woman. He buys the glaive without attempting to get the price lowered.
Wendell's expression lights up, "I would be honored!"
Then he hesitates, "Though... I may not always be available. Lord Van der Wuulf, you see, has enlisted my aid and he may call on me again. Would you be content with an apprentice who might need to travel from time to time? I promise that I will be an able and attentive student, if such an arrangement isn't disagreeable."
"Ahh! To have Lord Van der Wuulf as a patron is quite the honor indeed. That fact, alone, speaks volumes to your character, young man. Good... As it happens, your exploits for your noble employer have not gone unnoticed - much of the city council have been praising Lord Van der Wuulf's new troop of heroes quite liberally. I think the kinds of errands you will be assigned in the future will be more a boon than a hinderance to any tasks I might assign you as an apprentice. Return to me before you next leave the city - that should be time enough for me think of a suitable test for your apprenticeship. If you pass the test, we can discuss your duties under my tutelage and ot will be your choice to accept or decline the position."

Encountered at a for-sport gladiatorial arena (spectators betting on non-lethal combat matches between fighters), the adventurer is a gruff, muscular man dressed in well-used armor. Though he didn't talk much, Balasar suspects the man isn't in any hurry to leave town - he was too busy yelling at the combatants for sloppy techniques or slow reflexes.
Edit: I can't seem to get the pic to post, so see FB group for image.

Gong is interested in the quarterstaff. Who is selling it?
In a market district, near an outcrop of rune-carved stone, the street outside is shaded by a canopy of colorful fabric, Gong found a single storey building of timber and brick walls, with a slate roof and dwarf-wrought iron furnishings. Its entrance was brightly lit by magical torches and a sign proclaimed it to be Videfro's Adventuring Goods. The shopkeeper, an agreeable male half-orc named Videfro, is a retired adventurer who keeps a collection of framed maps, each of different distant and exotic lands he claims to have visited. Among various relics and treasures Videfro seems to have acquired throughout his time as an adventurer, he shows Gong a magical quaterstaff for sale.
Balasar is aiding Guan Hao, since they're both interested in very similar items.
Investigation: 7
Gong is also aiding Guan Hao; the more, the merrier.

So what are the party's collective savings thus far?
Guan Hao has 135 gp in his purse at the moment. How about you all?
Edit: just thinking we might pool our funds if one of us is a bit short what they'd need for an upgrade.
We also haven't reported in to Van Der Wuulf yet, so we should probably do that before we get too caught up in shopping.

Excellent. (gushes about DnD Beyond in spoiler)

Up one +1 glaive, down 200 gp.
