Glory is fascinated with the interplay between his table mates and wonders, like the others, what this mysterious solitary gentleman is about. He starts to make a comment to Brynn, realizing he should probably treat him better even though the comment was sarcastic, when both Brynn and Hayn stand up give Glory an ugly stare down and walk out of the Tavern leaving Bonnie enough coin to cover their part of the drinks. "Wow, who would have thought that I had such an effect on people. I guess I should be quicker to make peace. Hope they come back so I can be nice ... nah, I'll probably just piss'em off again" Glory heaves a big sigh. "So Blue Eyes, it is nice to make your acquaintance. You are too big and too sober for me to piss off immediately, but give me time. I'm sure we can have loads of fun. Glad to have such a large protector at our table. What brings you to these parts?" Glory is still watching to see what happens with the loan wolf at the other table. As much as me seems to enjoy getting himself into trouble, he really does try to pay attention and not get into too much trouble.
Blue Eyes pauses as Glory finishes his sentence. "I am trying to get out more. I have been free for a week and I am exploring Waterdeep." He stops and scans the room once more. "I've heard people talking about the Portal for years and I had always wanted to see it. Other than the faint smells, it is nice." He takes a drink and stretches neck.

Glory focuses on the conspicuous gentleman in the near table. "So we are all interested in what this man here is so blunderingly trying to hide. It might be time to ask a few questions." Glory walks over to him. "My good man. My name is Glorbagz Balfin, I am an elf of the Balfin clan. I couldn't help but notice that you seem nervous. Are you in danger? My friends and I are worried about you." Glory indicates the rest of us at our table. "I don't want to put you in any distress, we are good men of the City and offer our concern. Is there something we can do for you? You seem to have a trinket of some kind that you deem important. I would advise you not to wander far in your current state of agitation because it is plainly obvious to any highwayman who would want to rob you that you have something you consider valuable. I offer my advice freely and ask again if there is something we can do?"
Bonnie looks skeptically at the table, before her look abruptly changes. "Ah, sweet o you to be looking out for somebody like that." She leans in conspiriatorially to whipser "but sure and he's got something. What do you think it is?"
The young man starts at Glory's appearance. "What? Me? You?" Before he can quite recover, you can see that he stuffs some manner of headpiece back into the folds of his cloak. "Mister, ah..Glor bags, just sitting here, having a drink, enjoying the Portal, that's all." He notices your eyes fall to his completely untouched ale. "Uh...Bonnie...?"
Blue Eyes turns to Darruk. "I don't know if you've heard about the illegal fighting rings in Waterdeep. When I was a child, I was sold to s slaver and competed in fights until I recently earned my freedom by defeating the Ring Champion. My former master gave me a little money for starting a new life. I suppose it was compensation for all of the money I made him over the years. I lost more fights than I won, but I'm here now and I am enjoying my freedom." He sighs before he takes another sip. "I've never seen you before, are you new to Waterdeep?"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Glory was able to catch a glimpse of the young man's item and tries to figure out or remember what it reminds him of and what such a thing might be used for:
"You are allowed your privacy, just trying to help." Glory goes back to his seat and talks with the others. "Not sure what to make of this young ruffian. I'm keeping my eyes open because he seems to be waiting for something":
Seemingly out of nowhere, Rusty pops up to answer the dwarf. "It's hard to put a number on it, you see, because some come running back right away, and some never return. This lot brought a lot of provisions...let's see..." He ruffles through some papers. "..if most of them come back within the week, you win! A life well lived! The rest of you could take a lesson..." Seeing the looks on the rest of the faces, he claps Darruk on the shoulder and disappears as hastily as he arrived.
Valafar will get up and move over to the table with the sketchy little man. "Mind if I take a seat?" He asks, flashing a brilliant smile. But before the guy can answer, he takes a seat anyway. "I don't mean to pry, but you see, I'm supposed to meet someone here and I couldn't help but wonder if that someone might be you, hm?"
The man grips the table, white-knuckled, at this second person to join him, friendly but uninvited, in just the few minutes since his arrival. He hunches down lower, and you can see him squeeze at the lump in his jacket. The shift in his position easily reveal the headpiece to you, but he tucks it back away. When he turns his eyes back up, they show a glimmer of recognition, and confusion.
Valafar leans in and narrows his eyes, inspecting the person. "Wait...have we...met?" That's when his eyes go wide with recognition "Lion Rose? Lee? Leon? Leoros? Yeah that's it! Leoros! You're D'Artagnan's friend!"
Darruk looks up to see his new friend apparently meeting an old friend. Smiling he looks to the goliath near him. So any plans or ambitions here, I'm no slouch but you look like you'd be a fine ally in a scrap, and honestly as much as I've enjoyed the drinks I am itching for some excitement.
"Leoros, yes!" the man loosens up a bit, and finally takes a sip of his drink. "D'Artagnan? You mean Art? He always did put on airs! Am I glad to finally see a friendly face!" Leoros exclaims, stealing a glance at Glory, looking embarrassed at the outburst. "I have this...cap, I guess you would call it...long story, long story...but people are after it. Not good people. At least I don't think they are."
"Don't know what it does or who it belongs to...it's just a hat. But somebody out there wants it." He sizes Valafar up and down, before seemingly making a decision. "You've come up in the world a bit. Maybe...you could make some sense of this?"
As excited as he seems to be to meet somebody apparently not out to get him, Leoros' eyes keep flitting back and forth between the table and the door.
Meanwhile, up by the stage, the performers are getting ready. Threestrings is already tuning his second string. The performance is nearly ready to begin.
He laughs "Art indeed! He's always up to something, eh?" Valafar settles into his seat "So a hat, eh? One some bad people who do bad things want? Must be a real nice hat! But if it's causing you trouble, least I could do is find out why, ya know?" He reaches into his cloak and produces a rod made of dark, twisted wood "I could take a look at it for you if you'd like. Maybe shed some light on why the Big Bads want it."
Leoros looks hesitantly at Valafar, then at the table behind him. He sighs, and starts to withdraw the object from his coat.
Just then, the door to the Portal opens, and, just as every time the door has opened, Leoros hunkers down even deeper. This time, an unlikely pair enters. The first is a small dumpling of a man in a tattered waistcoat, the second is a taller, almost ghoulish man with oversized facial features. Their eyes scan the taproom.
you see that? Darruk whispers to his companions as he casually slides his axe off and rests it at his side in his right hand as he drinks with his left.
Glory is VERY interested in seeing what Valafar's new friend has to share and the interruption caused by the new comers is frustrating. He messages Valafar saying "Try to keep Leoros calm, I think we both want to see what he has to share. I'll see if I can distract the new comers and keep them away from your table." Glory uses his minor illusion skills and creates the sounds of a small argument in the far corner of the room. Nothing loud enough to startle Leoros but enough that Glory hopes the new comers attention will be drawn in that direction. At the same time he nonchalantly positions himself between the door and Leoros in order to prevent, as much as possible, his being seen.

yes, something seems off about him....but like I said I've never been here before. How long do they usually stay down there?
