Dihek'nir raises his voice a bit and asks, "Anyone seen mindflayers or brains with legs around here? I can show you a picture if you're not sure." And he produces his signed copy of Volo's Guide to Monsters.
(I assume nobody answers his questions)
Then he continues, "Or where or whom I should query about these things?"
Steam and Steel - Avi buys your scimitar for, and looks over your orb, "What is that, one of those magic focuses? I guess I could take it off your hands."and he offers you an additional 20g for the orb. Avi then turns to Dolf after he starts talking, "Well met Dolf. You folks are the ones that bought the old Manor? I heard it sold recently and was wondering when we would meet the new owners. If you folks are in need of any repairs or metalwork for your Manor, feel free to call on us, we're both members of the 'Most Careful Order of Skilled Smiths and Metalforgers' here in Waterdeep, and we can put you in touch with the other guilds if you need as well. As for work..." he chuckles to himself a bit, "a cousin of mine, who runs a farm just outside of town has been having some trouble that the town guard won't help him with, if you're interested."
Book Wyrms Treasures -In response to Kintu's question, "Well.. that spell there is Feather Fall, I could let you have that one for oh.... 25 gold. But we have all sorts of spells to offer, the price goes up from there, depending on the spell of course."
To Dihek'nir he says, "Mind Flayers? In Waterdeep? I wouldn't think so.. "
The woman browsing the books gives Dihek'nir a quizzical look but goes back to browsing.
"Is there something I can help you gentleman find? I see you already have a book that would tell you the basics about Mind Flayers, but I can try to track down some more research material if that's what you're in to."
Kintu shakes his head and returns the spellbook back to his collection, shifting his feet over toward Dihek'nir, "Nothing for me here, friend." And with that he'd step outside, more the type to learn through experience than throwing dragons at it.
yes, happy to. As for your services right now I'm in good shape and haven't been in the manor long enough to really know what we need. So who is your cousin, what does he need, and why won't the guards help? Dolph finishes browsing and walks to SP. When you're done let's head to this farm, we can probably find the others along the way.
Steam and Steel - "Ahh excellent, I'll send him word that you're coming." and he writes out the directions for you, "His name's Nanqen. He's been having problems with something ransacking his farm at night."
Book Wyrms Treasures - Kintu takes his leave of the shop. Does Dihek'nir want to ask any follow up questions?
/e
Kintu goes back in the shop, "Hello again, I think we had a misunderstanding. Were you trying to sell me that spell book?"
"Are you looking for information about Mind Flayers in general? or are you looking for information about one in particular? If it's the former, I can track you down some reading material and have it delivered to you, but if its the latter, you might want to pay a visit to Mr. Trench, just a few doors down at 'The Tiger's Eye'." the dragonborn says to Dihek'nir.
Dihek'nir is thankful, "I would very much appreciate more reading material and I will most definitely track down Mr. Trench. Who should I say gave me the information? Also, the additional reading could be sent to the formerly abandoned tavern here nearby. We got the deed for it and are making plans to fix it up."
And he'll go look for "The Tiger's Eye" and Mr. Trench.
"Ah, you're the ones that bought the old tavern, heard it sold recently. My name's Rishaal, pleasure to meet you. I'll send word to your new residence if I track down any books for you."
Dihek'nir leaves the book store and finds all of his companions outside waiting.
Dolph approaches Dihek'nir. Books? Well good news I hope, but I've gotten us a job helping the smith's cousin. Come on, I'll fill you in on the way best I can.
Dolph starts off towards the farm well aware that the smith didn't offer much in the way of details. Hopefully he thinks he just didn't know and wasn't hiding something from me...
Dihek'nir spots a small unremarkable shop with no name, that has a sign that resembles a pair of cats eye's.
You all lock up and head out of the North Ward and make your way to the UnderCliff area outside of town where the directions lead you to a small farm. You can see a large cornfield on one side and a small pasture with cows grazing on the other side of a small farmhouse and a larger barn.
From a distance everything looks fine, but as you approach you can see areas of the farm that look like they have been roughly disturbed. Parts of the fence around pasture look like they've been broken and rebuilt several times, some areas of the cornfield look trampled, and the barn looks like its doors were broken off and hastily re-attached.
**I posted a map of Waterdeep to the campaign notes. I'll mark off some locations later today when i get a chance**

"Yeah, we can look into that problem for your cousin if you need" SP will say as he pockets the 20 gold.

Dolph takes the directions and heads off to grab the others on his way to the farm.
Kintu blinks confusedly as he's back in the store. Waterdeep clearly having more mysteries than he realized.
"That is correct. "
"Excellent, I thought you were holding one of my own books," he flips through the spell book, "Hmm.. I'll give you 150 gold for this if you want?"
Kintu doesn't know the exchange rate, so assumes it's a good deal. "Sounds good to me
Dihek'nir would kindly ask for any possible follow-up research on the topic. He can either wait or come back at a later date.

Dihek'nir follows and reads all the store signs on the way, trying to catch "The Tiger's Eye" and remember where it was for a later visit.
(So I totally at one point had typed up a response saying I would help at his cousins farm but I cannot find it...)
From observation Dolph clearly assumed SP would be interested.
