Waterdeep: Dragon Heist

The guards stop and look a bit bewildered at the lights floating around them.  When it forms into a figure and runs off, one of the guards starts giving orders, "What in the blazes was that? You two, after it! The three of you, go see if you can get in around back of this building, the rest of you, with me!" and the leader and a few other members begin jogging over to the front door.

(So are we aware of an exit that they are not watching or do we need to try to find one that we are currently not aware of?)

Whispering to the group Renear have you ever been in trouble with the law? If not let's you and I try to talk our way out of this. The rest of you hide, it should be easy since we know they're coming.  If it goes south you can jump them and we can fight if we have to.  as he talks Gendal moves himself to where he can be seen standing over the kenku  y someone entering. unless anyone else has a better idea? 

SP will attempt to stick to the shadows while looking for another way out, checking for any floor grates or basement or side door to slip out of undetected

SP - you only see the door you came through, and the exit into the back gated yard on the lower level.

Renear looks to Gendal, "I think I might know the one in charge, I've met him once before.  I'm willing to try if you are."

Let's try. If it fails at least my friends can surprise them. I'll follow your lead.

"I have terminated city guards in my previous life... but i would prefer not to have to do it again" SP would say, looking to the others.

Karugur, Dihek'nir and SP stay low and in the shadows, while Gendal and Renear  step out into the alley, weapons held back. 

Revear says ,"Excuse me, officers.." but he's cut off by the lead guard, "Hey, you two , stop right there.  We've been getting reports of some very suspicious activity coming from that warehouse.  Explain yourselves."

We are looking for a missing person.  We were assaulted by kenku. Please Renear explain.  persuasion 20

Renear continues the explanation, "Officer.. Staget was it? I don't know if you recognize me, I'm Renaer Neverember."

Captain Staget nods, "Ye, i recognize you, go on."

Renear : "Well, a few days ago, myself and a friend were jumped in an alley, and brought back here, gagged and bound. I believe it was the Zhentarim that took us, I'm sure you can verify that. Then, just this night, the warehouse was assaulted by a group of Kenku, who snuck in and killed the Zhents, and took my friend, who I believe they thought was me.'

Staget: "Why would they go through so much trouble to get you?"

Renear: "I'm not entirely sure.  I'm sure it has something to do with my father, but who knows."

Staget, to Gendal: "And you said what? You were looking for Renear? How did you get mixed up in all this?"

No, I was not looking for Renear but found him while looking for a missing person.  I and some others were hired to investigate a disappearance.  Following up on the last known sighting led us to this warehouse.  The kenku were already here, alive and fighting.  That human was already dead. Gendal continues on giving the captain a full account of what led him to this moment.  I thank you captain for letting us explain.  Floon, do you know him? What about this gang that kidnapped Renear do they have any other hideouts? Any information you can share will be most appreciated and may in fact help save a life...As for these kenku theres not a reward available by chance? 

SP will hang back behind a crate watching the scene unfold.

SP - you can hear movement from the back of the building, presumably the other officers who have made their way around.

Gendal - "We can check on a reward after we see who all these dead folks were. I need you two to stick around for a bit while we have a look around? Was there anyone else in there with you?"

SP, watching and realizing that his friend is not being handcuffed will raise his hands up and walk out slowly towards Gendal.

yes, the others I mentioned are here. Please investigate as you see fit we can wait here for you.

You're all kept around while the officers go over the warehouse. They question you each separately about the nights events, and are satisfied with your answers.

Anyome who wants to listen in on what the officers say give me a Perception check.

Gendal - You hear one of the city guards ask another if "Urstul" was one of the dead men found in the warehouse, and the other guard responded that he was not.

Karugur -  You overhear while you're waiting to be questioned that one of the officers finds a tattoo on the back of one of the Kenku's hands. The tattoo is of circle with spokes coming out of it. 

Once the guards have finished their investigation Staget will allow you to go, and tells you to "Let us handle this folks, we'll figure out what was happening here. Leave this dirty business to the City Watch.  Remember, not all officers are as nice as me, so keep the blood off the streets, okay?"

Ranear says to you all once you're away from the warehouse, "If it alright with you gentleman I would like to stick with you until we find Floon.  He got mixed up in all this because of me, and I wouldn;t want to see him harmed becasue of it."
