Zander heads over to Lae and pulls out the thieve's tools and looks at them for a second. He fiddles with them and the lock, but he really doesn't look like he knows what he's doing.

I am going to intimidate the kids too tell me everthing they know. " you will tell me everthing and nothing but the truth or i will send your souls to hell!" Roll nat 20 so 25 in total
Zennas recognizes his thieves tools in Zanders possession as he knows his brother does not own any when he exclaimed he had some. "Give those back you ballsack, how did you get them in the first place?" Zennas will attempt to pick the lock after giving his brother a playful slap in the face.
(Upstairs) Unlit oil lamps are mounted on the wall of this elegant hall. Hanging over the mantelpiece is a wood-framed portrait of the Durst family: Gustav and Elizabeth Durst with their two smiling children Rose and Thorn (the children outside). Cradled in the Father's arms is a swaddled baby, which the mother regards with a hint of scorn.
Standing suits of armor flank wooden double doors in the east and west walls. Each suit of armor clutches a spear and has a visored helm shaped like a wolf's head. The doors are carved with dancing youths. There is another door in the wall next to the staircase.
The red marble staircase that started on the first floor continues its upward spiral. A cold draft can be felt coming down the steps.
See that painting? We saw the two children, we're assuming the parents are downstairs, where's the baby? And why is the mother looking at it like that? Do we search this floor or go upstairs, where that chill seems to come from...

I don't know, Lae, but we did just see an old lady going door to door stealing children, so anything is possible in this place. I was just going to guess the baby was with him and another woman, but way to be terrifying.
Zander tries the closest door.

You hit it and dent the door a bit.
Zander starts up the stairs with their bow out and pointed up at the landing.

“Can anyone pick locks?” Lae calls to the group.
Oh, actually, I have a set of tools right here that would be perfect for that! Zander comes back down the stairs.

(OK, so lock picking with thieves' tools will be D20+DEX+Prof or 2x prof if expertise in the tool.)

What ever do you mean, brother? Zander smiles and takes the hit, knowing full well he deserved it. You're not the only one who's sly around here.

They look scared. "Really, we have told you everything we know. We usually stay up in our room. Sometimes, we even get to eat up there."
The lock doesn't seem to budge.
Lae laughs, “Ahha.. I remember fighting with my brothers when I was a pup.. though come to think of it a few of them died from thier injuries... hmm.”
"hmm, I'm usually pretty good at this, unless there is magic involved..."
I can't say our fights were ever that rough, Lae. A couple broken bones maybe, but we shouldn't have tried to swordfight on that tree branch...
Maybe it's just a tougher lock then you're used to, Zenn. This is a fancy place, perhaps they can afford better locks. Let's try upstairs.
