Bubug wheels aside and bows his head as you all pass. Kip looks back at Bubug afterwards, only to see him glaring at you; an arrow threateningly armed, but not fired.
Kip will place a hand on his dagger but not draw it while looking back at the wyrwood. When he doent think his companions will notice the squirreling sticks his tongue out at Bubug and scowls at him before hugging the side of Vanyel's head from his shoulder.
Penris watches with wide eyes as they pass Bubug. "See, Kip, he's harmless! And sooo cute!! You must have him mixed up with some other wyrwood. Now that we've got past Bubug, where are we going? What's north of here? I do hope we don't run into any trouble. Although I'm sure Vanyel can handle anything, with our help of course." She stops suddenly, as a thought crosses her mind. "Kip, do you have children?"
"He just looks harmless Penris but don't let him fool you.. he may look like he is made of wood but he has a heart of stone... probably a cursed stone... Maybe an old piece of poop that sat around long enough to petrify actually... I mean he is a real jerk... I wouldn't look at him long honestly he probably has some magic charm spells to lure innocent people away where he eats them..." kip will say reaching over Vanyel's head and trying to place a hand on her shoulder to turn Penris away from Bubug. " I do have some kids" Kip would reply with a smile, the mention of his children distracting him from the evil Bubug nearby. "10 of them to be exact, and a beautiful wife" The squirrling will say with a smile locking eyes with the halfling. "You think I am fluffy! She is the fluffiest and softest woman I have ever met!" He will say proudly before a look of sadness washes over his face. "She supports me in my quest but I do hope I get to see them all again' he would say as the squirrlings twitchy tail seems to sag a bit.
Vanyel continued walking down the road, a little more relaxed now past Bubug. He listened to the conversation curiously wondering why One would want a fluffy, soft wife. After a time he finally speaks up. "I am sorry, But why would you want a soft wife. I want one who is strong and powerful to help me create strong children that could protect themselves from any possible threat."

"Soft and cuddly are great features!" The squirrling would say surprised. "It is a natural defense mechanism! We are underestimated by our foes and we are quick to make allies! Everyone loves hugs! The only thing better than a hug is a hug from a soft cuddly creature" Kip will say very matter of fact.
Vanyel fights back a grimace. His family had always showed affection by wrestling and he had received many loving punches from both his parents. He smiled fondly in remembrance of those times and the many bruises he had sported over the years. "That sounds horrifying, Please don't ever try hugging me."

As Kip talks about his family, Penris' eyes grow wide as saucers. "You have a wife and TEN children??!!" she almost yells. "Oh my gosh, I bet they're sooo FLUFFY!!!" She turns to Kip and looks at him pleadingly, her eyes wide, her hands clasped together. "Can I meet them? After we're done adventuring? Kip is right, there is nothing better than a fluffy hug!!" She begins nattering so fast, she could almost be mistaken for a squirreling herself. "Oh my gosh, a wife. Would she let me touch her soft fur? Can I hold one of your children? Or all of them? Oh my goodness, how do you fit them all in your house? Our house was big and we probably could fit in a few squirrelings, because it was just me and Father and Evalyn, but I don't think we'd have had room for TEN!"
As the bugbear mentions not wanting hugs, Kip would carefully try to position his arms around the top of his head like a fuzzy crown before resting his fluffy cheek on the top of that before looking to Penris as she starts rattling off questions about his wife and kids. "Sure you can meet them!" He would say excitedly, "I am sure my wife would be more than happy to give you a hug! The kids too" he would say smiling. "Our house is carved into a huge tree and when everyone is inside it can be a little cramped but the kids are a little older now so most the time they are out and about so it is really only crazy around meal time and at night.... When everyone is around though it is like a fuzzy tornado tearing through the house!" The squirreling will say fondly.
Kip will then ask, "so tell me... what have the two of you been up to since the gods created us?" The squirrling will say with his tail swaying softly down over the bugbears shoulder and occasionally wrapping around his neck like a fluffy scarf.
Vanyel waved his hand at the tail around his neck, bothered by how it tickled him. "I hunted and made venison jerky. Also killed one of those wooden contraptions that hate my kind so much. That is actually where my stone came from"

Kip will smile for a moment. "OK, well that sounds like an interesting day or two, but what your life?" The squirrling will say grabbing the back of the bugbears head with one hand and leaning around to look him in the eyes. "WE were all build for a purpose... and then that purpose was taken from us until now... Until now we had to give our lives purpose on our own... so what did you do?" The squirrling will look at him, his eyes blinking as he awaits a response with great interest.
Vanyel was silent for a couple minutes before answering in a matter of fact tone. "I was raised in a pretty nice cave, My parents made sure to beat me every day to toughen me up and help me learn how to fight better. When I turned 8 I was sent out with just my claws and teeth to live in the mountains for a week by myself." At this point his voice began to grow in excitement. "I killed a small bear and used my claws to carve out it's flesh and make a coat of it's fur. I wasn't very skilled at the task and so I not only was warmed by the fur but was unknowingly covered from tip of ear to bottom of my feet in it's blood and so when they came to see if I survived I got the nickname of "bloodbear"." He took a breath and continued in a calmer voice. "I was one of the strongest of my clan and eventually even grown adults were unable to best me in martial combat. One day a new Bugbear came along and took leadership by defeating and killing the old chief and fearing me doing the same to him cast me out. I've been surviving in the forest since then building my skills and power to eventually go back and defeat him and become clan chief. So really I have not been doing very much for a while now. Just living on my own working to grow stronger."

Penris, daydreaming about how wonderfully fluffy Kip's children would be, snaps out of it as she hears Vanyel's tale. "Your parents beat you everyday?" she says with a squeak. She continues to listen with wide eyes as he describes being kicked out of his clan. "Oh, that's terrible!" she exclaims. "Those big meanies! Well, it's good that you're here with us. We won't beat you, right, Kip?" She suddenly swallows. "Umm, you won't beat us, either, right?" She holds her breath while she waits for Vanyel's answer.
"I don't think he would beat us... I am pretty sure he would squish us" kip would say with a smile as he looks from the bugbear to the halfling. "it sounds like you have had it pretty rough friend, perhaps once our work for the gods is complete... you could go back to the tribe and challenge the leader.. maybe you could become the new leader!" the squirreling would say starting to get excited as he taps the bugbear on the head and his tail begins whipping around wildly. "I mean I would help! and I bet Penris would help!... not that you would need our help of course but we totally could help if you wanted and the you could show everyone that you are the strongest and best!" Kip would exclaim looking up to the sky with one hand holding on to the hair on the top of the bugbears head and another one made in a raised fist held forward in front of Vanyel.
Vanyel almost laughed at the thought of treating these two little creatures as a bugbear. "I would not beat you, You are not a strong creature like a bugbear. I am glad my parents beat me, I grew to be a strong warrior because of their loving beatings."

The path to the north opens up into sparse forest, the brush is low and pleasant, wild flowers are abundant.
