Lasarus nods slowly. "I accept. But if this is trickery, you will have the Slaine Guild to contend with." He takes the chest, and, his eyes still shut, begins to stumble down the staircase.
Tak will follow behind and assist him by taking the blindfold off saying, "It's in the briefcase. We aren't capable of handling this thing, whatever it is, we just want the coin and to get out of here. I'll follow you from above. Drop a bag of coin at the doorway with Locke and our business will be concluded."
Lazarus grunts an affirmative and strides out into the busy streets of The God's Hope, the chest tucked securely under his arm. He melts into the shadows cast by the noontide sun and takes a complex route of back alleys and side streets until he arrives at an inconspicuous abandoned warehouse. He darts inside and emerges a few minutes of later, accompanied by two more Slaine thugs and escorting Locke. The rogue is devoid of his typical nonchalant grin, and his nose is bent to one side, as if it has been recently broken. Lazarus slams a chest down beside Locke.
"We have only consented to give you this money on good faith because it would be a simple matter to track you down and dispose of you." Lazarus yells to the sky. "If you have double-crossed the Slaine Guild, you will not live long to regret it. " Then he snaps his fingers and the two thugs follow him into the warehouse, the door slamming behind them.
Tak flies down to Locke touching his nose casting Cure Wounds and says, "Hey bud, wait here the others will come pick you up in a cart. We're getting out of this city now." With that Tak picks up the chest and flies back to the inn.
Locke healed: 10
Upon returning to the inn Tak talks to the others and says "We have to leave now, Locke is meeting us a mile down the road from the south gate".
"Excellent. Len, how much do we owe you for damages? And do you know a good place where we can get a cart for travelling?"Jevyn steps over to the Cazanarro Guild thug Len was keeping watch over for him. "Did anyone else have any questions for this guy before I get started?" As he waited for a reply, the hobgoblin recast his mage armor expecting at least one fight on the way out.
[I'm assuming we got the money, so we should be able to pay back Len, right?]
Len groans. "You've made enemies of the Slaine Guild, have you? Don't worry about the damage. I suggest you leave town within the hour. I've got a cart behind the inn. Take it and leave it outside the city gates. I'll pick it up tonight."
"Thank you, Len. You've done too much for us. Everyone else, get the cart ready. I have a few questions before we leave." Facing the Cazanarro guild thug, Jevyn bent down and addressed him. "Where were you taking the package to?"
"We were to deliver it to the docks, to a woman named Echo. It was supposed to be an easy 500 gold." He laughs bitterly. "Then again, it was supposed to be lithmir extract."
Jevyn stood up, dusting off his hands. "That's all I needed. You can go now. I suggest you get somewhere safe before the Slaine Guild comes looking for us." Nodding in thanks to Len, Jevyn joined everyone else at the cart, pausing for a moment. "So should we find this 'Jin'? The Cazanarro guild member said they were to deliver it to some woman named 'Echo' at the docks, so we could find her as well."
Leaves poked the chest-testing it with a heft-and, had she an emotive face, would have frowned. As it was her feather just expanded giving her a puffy look. She cawed derisively, turning on her teammates, flapping her winged arms angrily.
"...You know, that chest is at least a 100 pounds? You bunch of dummies! Why didn't Tak mention this?! Did we arrange to be paid more somehow...?" She said, growing increasingly agitated.
...A standard gold coin is a 3rd of an ounce, see? So 50 coins is a pound, and we were contracted to be paid 1200 coins. The weight of the chest its self no more than 25 pounds, at best. So the chest should be substantially lighter. It should weight approximately half what it is. We were probably given a chest full of lead!
The coin is standard gold mint. A piece of parchment at the bottom of the chest catches Tak's eye. Written on it in black ink are the words,
Contained within this chest are exactly one thousand and two hundred gold coins, as promised by Boris Slaine during the original negotiations, and Boris Slaine never goes back on his word.
Lazarus.
Beneath the top layer of gold coins the chest contains only stones.
Leaves slowly deflated as she snatched her share of the gold and held it close.
"...Why would make the chest heavier...probably to keep anyone from running off with it easily? ...All right. You're all still fools, though. But what does that make me! A fool who follows the fools...!" She muttered, stalking off to regain her temper. She would of course count her gold coins exactly.
Shiv checks his pocket to make sure that he still actually has the item (without looking at it ) after hearing that super believable story.
Lasarus nods slowly. "I accept. But if this is trickery, you will have the Slaine Guild to contend with." He takes the chest, and, his eyes still shut, begins to stumble down the staircase.

Shiv would make his way out into the cart, ready to depart with the cursed item tucked safely away...
Tak will carry the chest to the cart and sit holding it tightly peering around to see if anyone is approaching or watching.

(All good, Tak's carrying capacity is 210lbs and only has 63lbs on him without the chest.)
Tak also burns the parchment that has the note to Shiv on it with Produce Flame.

"Is that real gold?" Leaves asked suspiciously. She wouldn't be surprised if they were all fakes!
""...Oh, and sure, I guess we can get involved. We're not working for anyone. Maybe these people are hiring? Or are we doing the 'hero' thing?"
Leaves poked the chest-testing it with a heft-and, had she an emotive face, would have frowned. As it was her feather just expanded giving her a puffy look. She cawed derisively, turning on her teammates, flapping her winged arms angrily.

Fooools! Fooooools! Caaaaaaw!"
Tak will grab one of the coins and examine it.
