Reverie Forestgleam—Human Paladin Level 5 in Frontier City of Nunkreet Extremely busy and busy as ever recently, but I will trying to catch up as much as I can
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: Trimyrai's seeking arrow requires a DEX save vs. DC 10: 21 And Reverie's Divine Smite does 2d8 radiant: 13 )
Player actions for round 2
Iskander - The seeking arrow connects for 12 damage.
Trimyrai - Had a mighty chop for 20 total as the slaad ran away last round, but is unable to connect this round.
Froskan - The spell ball chokes the slaad for 12 poison damage.
Jack - Hit the fleeing slaad last round for 7 damage. While chuckling at his taught this round, he just misses (needed a 14).
Reverie - Hit for 4 last round at the fleeing slaad. Even though Jack missed after his joke, Reverie connects again for 9 damage.
Reverie does not use Divine Smite. (Does not use the spell slot.) She was prepared to, but the last strike caused the toad-like evil being to croak (bad pun intended).
(OOC: With the opportunity attacks after Jack's spell, your group did 85 damage in the first round! Even the weaker slaads are pretty tough. It regenerated 10 hp, but the 33 damage this round from Isk, Froskan, and Reverie were enough to put it down.)
Beegred Thornpost - Lvl 8 Halfling Ranger - Out of the Abyss by Kerrec Drusk - Lvl 8 Half-Orc Life Cleric - The Long Road: Dragon Heist by Mingofaust (player & current DM) Hunferho Aelorothi - Lvl 5 Half-Elf Bard/Rogue - Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (by Pokepaladdy) DM - Frontier City of Nunkreet (ended)
(OOC: Info dump after combat. You can take your time reading this. The last chamber in the hallway won't happen until next week.)
Your party jabs the slaad body a few more times, to be certain that it isn't faking. It is no longer regenerating, so you are certain it has expired.
Froskan feels drawn to the slaad's chest, and notices it was wearing a necklace (buried into its flesh). Although magical, the slaad was either unwilling or unable to use it. After digging it out and cleaning it, you see a silver and mithral chain and palm-sized medallion. The runes around the outside edge of the medallion are the script used for wild magic sorcery spells. Although engraved in the metal, every time you look away, the runes change when you look back. The medallion is offset with an uncut topaz gemstone, translucent pink in color. As you are watching it, it changes to wine red in color, and the topaz continues shifting to other colors. (This item requires attunement to activate, so this will have to wait for later.)
Further back in the room is a large table, with parts of an ogre body strewn about it. The slaad appears to have been eating an ogre leg and liver. (It was so evil, it didn't wash the dirt off before it started.)
At the back of the room are 2 villagers, a teenage boy and an older woman. They are chained to the floor, and are drugged unconscious. They look malnourished, filthy (unwashed). with their muscles atrophied from disuse. As you look closer, you see the scars from old wounds (weeks ago) from the slaad's claws. (Jack remembers what happened when he was struck by the slaad's claws.)
You hear a voice from down the hall (the last chamber where Reverie detected undead). The voice is raspy, thin, and wheezing. It sounds like a whisper, except it is clearly yelling to be heard from this distance. "We don't care what you are doing in that room, but for the last time, keep it down! Don't interrupt our studies again, or we will make you shut up."

Isk rushes over to the chained up townspeople, his glaive dissapearing in a puff of smoke, and begins to use Healing Hands, only to have it fizzel out (that ability resets on a long rest, not short, womp womp).
When the rasping yell echoes across the chamber, the glaive pops back into existence and Isk says, "We should take care of that before freeing these people. They may become a liability, a danger to themselves, in the ensuing melee."
Trimyrai: (to the party) "I'm not from around here so i wouldn't know. I do agree that it is odd we encountered so many, and no one mentioned beware of ogres. Seems like something is going on."

DMing "Gallia Campaign 1".
Looking for a new game, if you need a player private message me.
Jack walks to the Ogre body. “More Ogres. Anyone seeing a connection, or are they just common everywhere? I don’t know.”
(Just a cliched way to make your foes seem more menacing. You’ve had some brawls with ogres, and now you’ve met an enemy that eats them for lunch, literally.)

Froskan stares transfixed with the medallion for a few moments until he's snapped out it by the yell from down the hallways. He tucks the medallion away in a pocket to inspect more later.
Isk turns to Reverie, "Experiementing on the Ogres, maybe also on these prisoners. They look...used..." he says with a frown, "I'm thinking we need to take care of what's down the hall and then get these people back to the surface."
Reverie looks at Froskan for a moment before turns and looks at Isk and then to Trimyrai for a moment, listening to their opinions. Then she nods. "I agree with you both. We need to be extra cautious." Her eyes shift to Froskan and Jack. "Are you both all right?"

(Still catching up on sleep, but I'm ready to move forward.
Froskan can still make a stealth roll, or we can proceed. With 3 successes, the group is able to approach the last chamber without alerting the occupants. If Froskan is also super stealthy, I'd at least do a roll for the monsters to be surprised.)
This last chamber also has a stone slab 10' back from the entrance, blocking the view for privacy. The group is able to peer around the corner of the slab. The room is 40' by 30'. No beds. A few tables with books further back in the room. Two figures are hunched over a closed book, which they are concentrating on. They are poking and prying at it with various small tools.
The figures have the look (and stink) of wights, but they don't have the armor or weapons that those undead usually carry. They both carry wands that can be used as a spell casting focus.
(The party can discuss what to do next amongst yourselves, as long as it is quiet and not too long in time. Will wait a bit to see if Froskan is stealthy too.)
