One more chance; One more crack, at your little boss again
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Water elemental is AC 14, so both arrows hit (22 damage), and both of Iskander's glaive strikes (28 damage).
WIS save: 15 Fails! Takes 8 damage.
Iskander hits with his glaive. Jack causes the water elemental psychic damage, forcing it to flee. But it turns around to take 2 arrows from Trimyrai, loses its form and becomes a harmless puddle of water on the cave floor.
Sallah and Miriam will enter the cave and deconsecrate the sacks of loot, so the party can carry them away in Jack and Reverie's bags of holding.
The party makes it back to the surface safely.
While retrieving the bones of Nimrod and his 2 henchmen, the ghost appears one more time. It will answer 2 questions, if you had anything you wanted to know. Sallah and Miriam have already asked their questions about the history 300 years ago.
(It isn't omniscient. Consider this a story reward, and not a plot point, in case you were curious about something.)
(I'll divvy out the loot later.
In the meanwhile, between the demon+ghouls+ghasts, sword wraiths, the rot troll, and the Umberlee elementals, you can add 4000 XP. You should be at 15,000 XP and can rank up to level 6.)

Nimrod replies to Reverie: "I am not aware of any involvement by Talona in what happened to me and my party.
"Centuries ago, we were able to create miles of land out of the chaos of Limbo and the roiling ocean. Our act displeased Umberlee greatly. As we were returning, we stopped by an elvish watermill to rest. A horde of trolls attacked. We held them off while the elf family escaped, but at the cost of our lives. When next we were aware, we were in this underground cavern, buried in a small cemetery next to the watermill which somehow also found its way down here... The minions of Umberlee informed us that our torture was arranged by their god, but now that is over."

Isk says, "I don't suppose you know anything about what the church of Bane might be up around this area? We had a rather surprising revelation about their involvement with city officials."
Nimrod reminds Iskander that, 300 years ago, there were no cities anywhere near where his party fell. The largest settlement was a small elf village along the Evergreen River, but that was more than a score of leagues to the north and east. (OOC: You can tell he lived a long time ago, because he uses words like "leagues".) He has no idea how the watermill or their graves ended up hundreds of feet underneath a bustling city. He didn't know that there was a city above them, as they've only known the rock and dirt of this cavern (and centuries of fighting against Umberlee's troll).
He does express surprise at a "church of Bane". "There is no god called Bane... I do remember hearing about three power-hungry adventurers causing trouble. A vile lot of villainy. Their names were Bane, Myrkul, and Bhaal... Now that I think more, there were rumors that they were trying to gain the power to become demi-gods, but it is outlandish to think that anyone with a sound mind people would worship those fools, no matter how much land they conquered."

(OOC: Sorry about the slow down. I was having a bit of "writer's block" about how to set up the next story. This post will wrap up the events of the last adventure, and I'll do another post soon to start the next one.)
Miriam and Sallah thank you for guarding them on that second trip into the Pit. There were a lot of historical items ("that belongs in a museum!") among the treasure that Umberlee had hidden away. They also had information about Nimrod to pass onto their colleague (Egg Chen). However, they will be laying low, and staying away from the Pit for a while. Although the treasure was deconsecrated, Umberlee has her minions and spies trying to find out more information about what happened down there. Miriam and Sallah suggest your group be cautious until things cool down.
Now that you've done a favor for their colleague, you can stop by at some point to have him look at Reverie's mysterious scimitar. (Egg Chen is busy writing up the research about Nimrod, so he will be busy for at least the next week.)
The remains of Nimrod's party was discretely buried in a stretch of land that gets a lot of sunlight. The church of Chauntea (goddess of earth and life) thank you for helping to return 3 of their long departed followers. That thanks extends to a discount on several potions of healing.
The treasure haul is not as much as you were hoping. You had to train for 5 days to reach level 6. Since you are visitors to town, and not part of a Guild, you had some trouble finding adequate resources and trainers for your development. Since the time was not scheduled in advance, and you are out-of-towners, you had to pay 200 GP. (Now you understand why people join Guilds, or why high-level adventurers build their own castles and hire personal trainers.) Also, you had to pay for Remove Curse to be cast more than once on Reverie, as she was getting short-tempered with an obnoxious sword instructor.
(OOC: I have already adjusted everyone's sheet, so you don't need to do anything. After expenses, you got a 100 GP gem, 80 GP, 120 SP, and 2 potions of healing. I also clicked the button for "Long Rest". Everyone leveled up, but you should also be at full health.)

OoC - I did end up grabbing Remove Curse, so we can use that to save in some money. Figure Isk would do a nightly casting every two days or so that his slot would replenish in the morning. Also, if that's not how it works, that's totally cool and I'll swap it for a different spell.

(Warlocks regain their spell slots with a Short Rest. So Iskander can cast Remove Curse first thing in the morning, and be recovered by the time breakfast is over.
Under normal circumstances, that is. It seems unlikely, but I will keep this in mind if complications arise.
He can swap that spell off his list at some later time when he levels up, but being stuck with it for now seems a reasonable price for Reverie's peace of mind.)

Calendar of recent events (if I didn't make a mistake in my notes)
19th - Arranged with Sallah and Miriam for a second trip into the Pit
20th - Second trip, fought wraiths and ghouls and rot trolls
21st-25th - Training to get to 6th level
The training has been frustrating, with unfamiliar instructors and less-than-ideal training grounds. Between the high prices and the somewhat-sneering attitude, you suspect that these people are trying to take advantage of you being visitors in the city. (There might be some city-rural snobbery since your IDs list your homes as being in remote villages.) Finding reliable training facilities is added to your (growing) list of things that need to be done to make your lives easier.
On the 26th, you get a chance to relax and enjoy yourselves. Peaceful times have been rare for the last 2 months... You do notice that Trimyrai is getting agitated. Without training to distract him, he has more time to think about what had happened (or what is happening) to the people from his village. Not hearing anything from the Iron Gate for the last week is not helping.
(OOC: I think Reverie was interested in looking for houses to buy in town. If there are other things you wanted to do on your day off, let me know. We'll deal with those requests after this next adventure.)
On the morning of the 27th, while you are having breakfast in the HinterhaltigHase Hotel (4H), "Babs" informs you that you'll have a visitor at lunchtime. Murphy wants to give your party an update on their investigation. (Murphy was the Iron Gate human rogue-mastermind that was part of the group that took care of the Talona minions, way back around post 2492.)
When Murphy arrives in a few hours, he arranges for lunch in a private room in the hotel. After the door is closed, he checks the room to make sure no one is eavesdropping (either in person or by magic). When he is satisfied, he sits down and begins to talk.
"You were told some days ago by Iron Gaters" ( post 3324 ) "about two of your villagers, Darvin and Warton by name, who were part of a group of ruffians. They appeared to be collecting money for a protection racket, roughing up shopkeepers who didn't pay. We've suspected Bane followers of this criminal activity before, but until now they've never been so bold as to wear clothing with obvious Bane markings on it.
"The good news is that a shopkeeper has asked us for help, as he no longer wants to pay them. The gang with your friends visited him a few days before, and were too aggressive in their actions. They said they will be back tomorrow to his shop to collect the payment in full. So it will be possible to be waiting for them.
"The bad news is that the Iron Gate cannot take action. Apparently, word leaked to some city officials that we were watching Bane members for illegal actions. Word has come down, telling us not to interfere with the church... Evidently, someone in power is sympathetic to the Bane cause. Or was slipped enough money to protect them. Or was blackmailed to support them... Whatever the reason, we have to stay away.
"However... you are not members of the Iron Gate. If you happened to be around that shop tomorrow, that would be a coincidence. Right?
"You'd have to be careful. If some powerful city official is looking out for them, you should minimize any damage done to people or property, to avoid attention. But since you know these people, maybe you can talk to them before the violence escalates. Or maybe convince them to turn themselves in to the city guard." Murphy smiles a bit at that last bad joke.
"Oh, the ugly news... This shop is in the slums in the western part of the city." ( Link to simple city map. ) "The shopkeeper is Mortimer Warkent, but he has an obvious nickname that people use instead... He spends more money than he could possibly make in that shop, but we haven't found out where he is getting the additional funds."
"That was a bit lengthy. Did you have any questions about what I said? Do you have ideas for what to do tomorrow?"

Trimyrai: (to everyone) "If city officials oppose us, they are clearly corrupt and evil. I won't have any moral issues with facing them."
"We don't know which officials have been influenced. You don't want to be reckless and accuse nobles with reputations, without solid evidence and a lot of political clout behind you.
"There is also a chance that this official sincerely thinks they are doing the right thing. The power of the Bane church was broken a year ago. The new leadership that took over claimed they punished and removed the individuals responsible for their previous evil acts... Since then, they have said and done the right things to rebuild their public image, acting humble and contributing to good causes... But my nose tells me, no matter how much perfume they wear, the Bane church will always reek of foulness and corruption.
