Thug: (spits out some blood from the earlier beating by Jack) "Seems like my choices are that you will kill a prisoner like me, or you kill me after I tell you where the base is. Still not a good deal."

"Heh, You know what, I could kill you by calling you ugly right now. I could slap you and you will die a painful death. But if we hand you over to them? I don't know what they'll do. they could torture you. Imprison you.  I was just letting out frustration earlier. What do you think they will do with years of Anger? It's best if you tell us where your base is. And if we let you go, your leader will just kill you anyways. you could've sold them out."

Reverie claps for Jack's speech as she smiles in satisfaction. Still, she looks at the thug for a moment in a curious way. Tilting her head to the side, she speaks as she gets closer to him. "... What do you exactly want? Do you have a family to take care of or want to refresh your life and such?" She hums, "you keep talking about a 'deal', and I am here curious about your purpose of joining in this bandit group." A pause. "What. Do. You want. From your deeds right now?"

The Thug shuts his mouth and eyes, ignoring any more talk.

(OOC: The Thug made demands in post 361. Completely unreasonable demands, but that was how he was thinking. After that, you guys returned to the threats of pain and death, which were not working (failed rolls), and made him more stubborn.

Theren and Froskan, did you guys want to follow up on your earlier attempts? Af has been offline, so I wanted to make sure you guys got to post, if you had more.)

(Been trying to think of a way to encourage the bandits to actually go back to camp if they 'escape')

Froskan spends some time thinking how to encourage the bandits to not simply flee if they 'escape'.  "What if", he says to the others, away from the bandits, "we 'let slip' that a tempting caravan target will be passing through with a reduced guard compliment?"

Froskan approaches the bandit and sits down, leaning against a wagon (or crate, or whatever's handy) across from him.  "So what were you planning to do with your share of the loot from today?"

( I assume you mean the Bandit that Theren was working on, and not the other bandit (Thug) that the other 3 were grilling.)

"I was going to buy a barrel of wine... uh, while the gang of thieves were buying a barrel of wine, I was planning to escape."

Froskan chuckles.  "I do hear bandits like their wine.  How is the loot split up amongst everyone?"

Bandit: "I didn't get any gold because they beat me. But the new recruits were told that everyone gets an equal share after the caravan raid today... Except the bandits who were around longer got more, and the leader gets the most."

Froskan nods.  "Makes sense, I suppose.  How soon do they split up the loot?"

"Katrina, give me your component pouch."

Katraina shrugs, tossing her component pouch to Jack before turning her attention back onto both the Thug and the Bandit. "You're both being very frustrating, you know," she says with a sigh. "I suppose we're justgoingto have to start '20 questions'. Though, with the two of you here we'll get 40."
With that, she takes the Thug's left hand and cuts off the pinkie finger. "Question one: Where is your base?"

Bandit to Froskan: "They hand out some of the money, use some of it for food and equipment. The rest is held in the leader's cabin until it is time to visit a town, for entertainment."

The Thug grimaces, looks around, then makes exaggeratedly screams of pain. The nearby merchants and village-folk stare, then look away, whispering amongst themselves.

Theren sits with the bandit and watches with a vague expression on his face.

"Katrina, reverie, come here, I've got a plan" After they are huddled,... "Ok, guys, I've got a plan. just keep a straight face and play along." Jack walks up to the Thug.

"well, mister, we can meet your demands. Did you notice those orbs we kept throwing at you? those require 50 GP diamonds. Reverie here can summon a horse, and we can untie you. but first, where is your base?" He shakes the component pouch as he says this.

Reverie pauses as soon as she hears the painful scream from the Thug, and then she turns to look at the thug. "... Did something happen to him?" Reverie asks the members around her. Then she walks over towards the thug, checking if something happens to him.

 (I mentioned I didn't want to go in that direction. Your group has tip-toed up to the line, but there is still time to step back... If your group does go in that direction, it can still happen. There will be consequences, mostly negative, and the campaign in general will be less optimistic.

I was hoping for something like Loki being interrogated in "The Avengers". Fury makes the threat (intimidation) of torture, but it doesn't happen. And if he did it, he would have offended Captain America and Thor. Black Widow would have been okay, but she was the one who got the information, in a better way.

For either the Bandit or the Thug, they won't be able to tell you how to travel through a forest, without accurate maps, along an unmarked path. You will need to have them as a guide, either willingly or unwittingly.

As far as Jack's suggestion in post 381, it won't work. The Thug doesn't trust you guys not to kill him the moment his usefulness has ended. And you can't trust him not to lead you off a hidden cliff or into a monster's nest.)

"Katrina, here's your pouch back, and I think you should stop. We don't want to get arrested now. I wouldn't like to.... I doubt theren wants to get arrested, does he? i'm going to go now." When he's with Theren… "ok, well, Mr. Guard. How about this? you tell us where the base is, and you're hero! You've led us to the opponent, gotten revenge, and will be showered with Praise! So how about it?"

"I'm no hero. No glory for me. I'd be scared of returning to that base. Can't you just let me go?" (All of that is truthful, even if he has been lying about being a captured guard.)

(The Bandit saw Jack punch the other guy several times, so he is a bit frightened of him. He thinks he has Theren and Froskan fooled, so one of them will make the Persuasion roll, depending on what they ask of him. Froskan has been asking his questions to the Bandit to, I believe, manipulate him. I'm inclined to let that play out a little longer.)
