Ian is sitting in the back of the wagon, it is loaded up, he is twiddling his thumbs and kicking his feet, whistling a little tune, glad to have a job that could put a little coin in his pocket and a little excitement in his life (some call it danger, Ian calls it excitement)
Glynquinal asks his friends, "Does anyone have experience driving a cart? I don't as I've always found it to be too tedious to bother with, and I'm faster on foot anyway."
The old man steps out of the Three Picks and smiles at the foursome. "Good, good," he says, appraising the loading. "Get these to Barthen's Provisions, and they'll pay you your fee. Of course, to get there, you take the High Road south until it meets up with the Triboar Trail. Head east and you can't miss it. The Rockseeker brothers might have some work for you in Phandalin, Gundren said. Just ask around. The place is small, so you won't have trouble finding where you're going." At the group's question about driving the oxen, the old man smiles again. "No trouble, these two. Just keep some pressure on the reigns and they'll follow the path. If you have trouble driving with the reigns, get out and walk beside them. They'll go where you want. If you camp where there's grass, they'll stay fed. And there are plenty of places to draw water on the way, too." He steps back into the open doorway and gives a little wave. "Ilmater keep you safe on your journey."

(Aside to DM: This is my Intelligence check to determine what the brass tubes are: 16. Sorry it took so long for me to figure out the dice icon only shows up on the desktop, not the phone.)
The Herr Doktor Professor takes up a spot at the back of the wagon, where he will be perfectly happy to stay. If the party decides to take turns steering the cart, then he will uncomplainingly do his shift. However, he has no talent for handling animals, and prefers to stay away from them if possible.
Glynquinal takes up a position on the left side of the wagon easily keeping pace with the wagon. A smile crosses his face as he's happy to be heading down the road. His growing dissatisfaction with staying in one place and not getting ahead had been starting to wear on him badly. At least doing something with friends was something he could look forward too.
Herr Doktor, you could tell, even without picking up the tubes, that they are used for magnification. The different sizes would be for different magnifications. Clearly, the patrons are used to studying the fine details of things — whether maps or objects or both, you're not sure, but they seem to be well equipped to make big what is visibly small.
At Gruxx's encouragement, the oxen begin moving at a moderate pace. The foursome navigates the streets of Neverwinter, heading to one of the two south gates in order to begin their journey along the High Road in the direction of Leilon and Waterdeep. The day is as pleasant and uneventful as can be hoped for. Throughout the day, they pass some individuals and groups traveling north. At sundown, they decide to pull over into an old campsite for the night. It's about 50 feet off the main road with a good amount of trees on three sides. A fire pit is available with a few logs encircling it.
Accomplishing "woodsy" tasks like finding food or water, chopping firewood, looking for tracks, etc. are accomplished with survival check (roll a d20 and add your survival modifier). If you want to do something with the oxen that you think might require more coaxing than they would do for just anybody, you should roll an animal handling check. When it comes to sleepy time, it's general practice that there are three watches (in order to not interrupt a long rest of at least eight hours). When that occurs, everyone awake and on watch rolls a perception check. (Gruxx, you would roll with disadvantage because, as a human, you don't have darkvision.) If you want to do something else other than what I've just mentioned, go ahead and do it, and I'll let you know if you should roll something.
Glynquinal appraises the site, and takes a wander around to see if there are any recent signs of activity. Not needing to take 8 hours to rest, he volunteers, "I don't need much time to be fully rested for tomorrow. I can take the first watch." While inspecting the campsite Glynquinal gathers up what firewood he can find on the ground that is good and dry.

As a wood elf, Ian is familiar with these forests, and melts into the shadows - he is looking for wood, and animal tracks - small tracks means some extra meat at meal time, big tracks means be on alert tonight (useful information for those of us keeping watch) and human tracks would be disconcerting (maybe being followed) and would need further discussion with the group.
Ian, needing only 4 hours trance, offers to take the second watch.
(OOC, I am going to guess what rolls I need to accomplish these tasks, DM, please correct as necessary)
Survival: 13 (if it should be nature, subtract one from this number)
Glynquinal, Gruxx and Ian head off in different directions. Glynquinal and Gruxx return after about 10 minutes. Glynquinal has found a few smallish branches. Gruxx is laiden down with a couple very large branches, which he is dragging behind himself. Ian does indeed melt into the shadows of the forest. His keen eyes search for tracks. He happens upon some rabbit tracks, and he decides to follow them. He follows them about 10 minutes into the woods. Do you want to continue? Do any of you want to search for water to keep your oxen hydrated?
The Herr Doktor Professor spends ten minutes calling up an Unseen Servant, then proceeds to have it clean up the campground, get a fire going in the fire pit, send it with buckets to a stream to water the oxen, etc. He will later be found resting in the back of the wagon, seemingly exhausted by all the "work" he had to do. :)
He will go to bed early, then take the third watch with Gruxx (so there will be someone with Darkvision to accompany the barbarian during the dark hours of the morning).
OOC I copied and pasted from my character sheet, but that one had a +5 as it was copied from an attack roll. The result was 12 but should have been only a 7 without the modifier.
After 10 minutes of following a rabbit track, Ian decides it's not worth it and makes his way back to camp. He will sit upright, his back against a tree, in a trance until Glynquenal wakes him to take his turn at second watch.
Herr Doktor finishes his ritual at about the same time Glynquinal and Gruxx return with their firewood. Herr Doktor feels the magic take effect and he mentally directs his unseen servant to clean up the campsite. Leaves and twigs begin floating about as if an invisible person is moving them. Once Herr Doktor has decided the campsite is clean enough, he directs his unseen servant to light the fire. Unfortunately, it has no way to do that, so it cannot complete the task. (And what "buckets" are you sending with the servant to get water?)
Glynquinal puts his kindling in a pile by the fire pit and heads back into the woods. His ears easily recognize the sounds of water. He had been hearing it before, but hadn't paid attention. He finds a stream not very far from the campsite. (What are you putting the water in?)
Ian returns to the campsite and settles in.
You all don't have to specifically say you're eating, but please try to remember to subtract a ration from you inventory at the end of every day. If you don't have any rations, let me know. If at any point you have supplemental food, I'll let you know what to do about rations.

Ian doesn't move, he keeps sitting on the back of the wagon, waiting for another member of the party to offer to drive.
Ian makes a mental inventory of everything in the wagon, and where it is, because he is slightly OCD.

Ian calls out "I vote Graxx drives! Graxx, are we there yet?" trying to keep the mood light.
"I've had some experience in my day dealin' with animals. Mainly ponies but this shouldn't be much different"
Gruxx will hop up into the driver's seat. "Get on if yer getting on. We gotta get goin!"
"HYAHH!" Gruxx will crack the reigns moderately.

Having done so poorly at finding anything decent for a fire Glynquinal decides to try and redeem himself by finding a water source.
