Party vs. "Skellies and Jellies" Round 4 RESOLUTION phase
Starting map (same as above):
Resolution:
As Drusk is backed against the wall by the cube, Hildigrim dashes for the southeast corner, hoping to distract it. As Jorin and Vanja step up to attack, Hildi shoots an arrow at the cube (18), scoring a deep hit (8 dmg) as it continues to try to squeeze Drusk and his shield. Drusk scrapes along the northern wall, pushing back against the cube with all his might, as Jorin's axes bite deep (25 and 23!), hewing large slices of gelatin off (21 dmg!) that slide to the floor and dissolve into puddles. The cube shudders, and Vanja's ball of fire (19) sizzles a patch of its skin (2 dmg).
As the cube falters under the attacks, Drusk breaks free of the confined space, and pivoting around, swings Joybringer in a mighty arc (21), slamming it into the cube's surface and causing it to explode in a violent splash, leaving Jorin and Drusk covered in a translucent, tingly layer of monster snot.
The gelatinous horror is done for!
Pascal, his scales at full spread and his throat glowing icy blue, pauses, swallows, and lets a frosty mist escape around his sharp teeth.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Drusk walks over to Jorin. "Hold still, you got a bit of snot on your shoulder."
Cure Wounds with Life Cleric bonus: cure 9 hp for Jorin
Looking around the room, now that we aren't being attacked. Besides the four open stone sarcophagi in the corners, anything else? More patches of mold on the ceiling or side wall? Is there something near the east wall, or is that just an accident of the pattern on the map?
If there is something near the east wall, look at that first. Otherwise, start digging through the NE sarcophagus. Investigation: 20 (add 1 if Perception)
Beegred Thornpost - Lvl 8 Halfling Ranger - Out of the Abyss by Kerrec Drusk - Lvl 8 Half-Orc Life Cleric - The Long Road: Dragon Heist by Mingofaust (player & current DM) Hunferho Aelorothi - Lvl 5 Half-Elf Bard/Rogue - Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (by Pokepaladdy) DM - Frontier City of Nunkreet (ended)
There is nothing else in the room. No Investigation is needed. In each sarcophagus there are two sIlver pieces (so eight in total). The cube seems to have eaten 10 electrum pieces, at some point. One is stuck to Joybringer (Drusk’s mace).
At this point, there are no unexplored portions of Carrion’s dungeon.

Hildigrim stows away all of his equipment. "Well, fellows ... and madam," he says, giving a quick nod to Vanja, "do we feel confident that our extermination of this peculiarly compelling chamber will settle our new friend's mysterious issues?"
(In case I forget, when we get to the surface, we need to spend time appraising the 7 gems that Drusk is holding for the group, and the 4 potions.)
Drusk feels a little uneasy. "You are right that it seems we have exterminated all we could. But I wonder if we've overlooked something. That guy with the bad hand, BowMint or whatever, he was down here a long time. Feels like there should be another entrance to this complex, or something that was watching over him, or something in that south chamber. But I admit, I can't think of anywhere else to look."

He says to Pascal, "Hmm, that hand is probably crawling around in Mavis' bag right now. I do not know if it can help, but..." he pauses, narrows his eyes and looks around, "I agree, I feel as though there is something still undone down here."
(So where did we look in that southern chamber? I know we focused on the sarcophagus, and trying to move it. Did we check the outer walls for secret doors? )

You hear Mavis' voice from the opening. "Everything all right down there? We heard a tremendous boom..."
Once you consult with each other, Mavis, Criella, and Beaumont come down to check the place out. You spend a few hours going through the rooms, checking for more mold, tapping on walls, and generally dotting yours i's and crossing your t's. Beaumont's memories of the place are very vague, it's been over a hundred years since he was in control of his own mind. But he confirms that the room at the far north was Carrion's private chamber, and the rooms here in the southern portion were his workrooms... well, not counting the blood room, and he blanches at the thought. Where the Spectator had its lair was the utility, kitchen, and whatnot room, the two side rooms off the blood room were for storage.
Already, those of you sensitive to nature and goodness can feel the evil losing its grip on the land.
The dungeon, once Carrion's dungeon, is cleared out.
You reconvene above, in the cottage, to decide what to do next, and how to proceed with the items and treasure you have found.
Mavis speaks up first, "I have discussed with Criella, and I will stay here for a while with her, we have some ideas about what to do with this place." Criella, nods, "It seems adventure is not done with me, after all, Pascal. Perhaps some good can come of this place."
Vanja, at some point, says, "I am still searching for something, the answer to a vision I had. I thought my path lay with the northman," she smiles shyly at Jorin, "But the spirit is tugging me further north now. It has been an experience, at your side, but I will take my leave in the morning."
Beaumont asks if he can stay a little longer to recover, but then he plans to return home, to see if anyone he knew is still there, to pick up his service to Lathander.

Jorin goes through the dungeon with the group, carefully checking things, accidentally breaking other things, and returns to the surface with an thoughtful look on his face. A look that borders on troubled.
After Mavis, Criella, and Vanja say their bit, Jorin snaps his finger and with a light chuckle says, "By the eight, I know what it is...We must feast!" he opens his arms nearly as wide as the smile that splits his face, "We must feast. We cannot conclude the day without a proper victory feast. Every axe swing falls into meat and mead."
(OOC: Thanks for doing this. I was going to suggest having Beaumont give his opinion about the layout of the dungeon, but wasn't sure it was good therapy to drag him back to his personal Hel.)

Pascal with take Criella’s hand and place the tip of his snout to the back of her hand, before rising up once more, “Cher, good comes from wherever you are. I hope you will invite me sooner next time, otherwise I may just need to drop by unannounced.”

So does Drusk. Every feast is another opportunity to share Lliira's grace with all. Drusk has some ideas, but the feast should wait for some unfinished business.
You reconvene above, in the cottage, to decide what to do next, and how to proceed with the items and treasure you have found.
That will start with a 10 minute ritual for Drusk to cast Detect Magic, and check all the items they took out from below. That includes the gems and the coins.
After that, the group should spend time finding out what the 4 potions are, and the value of the 7 gems.
