Ask around for a news board, town crier or find out if the inn is the place to find out the news or hear rumors. Get a room n buy a few rounds to get the locals talking.
After buying a few rounds you hear some of the locals tell you about what used to be a band of raiders that would raid the small towns like theirs but of late it has stopped. Some kids went down there into the wastelands and could not find anyone but they did find some bones and stuff in a box canyon that appeared to have a large camp in it. Seems they moved out and headed across the wasteland. Maybe to the dead city that is about three days south by horse in the wasteland where some say the undead and other beings remain in control. They say there is a large treasure there but no one can confirm it.
Bastion looks to the others, "Sounds like that group may be tough to track down, and they've stopped being a problem for the locals. Our time might be better spent elsewhere. Do we still pursue?"
Kixarn looks around "I thought someone had items stolen, by this witch-woman? Retrieving that is important, maybe, or not? If not, I'd rather not."

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Bastion nods, "They stole everything Avan had at the time, which was of substantial value. I considered it well worth the effort of going back to that box canyon, I'm less sure its worth a wild goose chase across the desert. Ultimately everything lost is replaceable."
"This city of the undead may be of interest, I bet if we ask around we can find someone willing to pay to get it cleared out, guarantee a payday even if the treasure is a hoax. Might be a good idea to see if there are any other leads as well."
‘True. Maybe check with any local clergy if they know anything or have an idea about said payday for clearing it out. Or if they can supplement our healing with potions or magical means’.
Ghanima perks up at the sound of a hunt of more undead. "I think our encounter with this Vampiress was a bit beyond my abilities personally, but I am glad to have been able to help. Even a little. If there are more undead out there to fight. It is a good fight to pursue." she gives a definative nod.
"I feel empowered with the staff, and I'm certain helpful more than before. It is a great gift of this magic, you've given." Kixarn says confidently, "And using it to defeat the undead is certainly within powers I now wield!"

Shyly, Kixarn speaks up "I have some few potions, and now have wand for repair-healing of Bastion. And potions of that, also. You need to carry some?"

Arilynia speaks up: "As a Ranger by trade, I am fortunate to have a few spells. Mainly to delay poison and entangle a foe. I can also speak with animals. If you that those will help."
Ok Which way do you wish to go. You will have to go south for the ruins but there is also those two hill giants up north. Or you can listen some more and see if there is any other issues being talked about
Myth smiles. ‘Nay my friend, I wasn't sure what we had is reason for the ask. If Undead we hunt, silvered or magic weapons we need, as well as healing or health replenishing items.’
"Given our funds, everyone should at least have an enchanted weapon, if not, speak up so it can be fixed. For silver, I believe there is a potion of sorts that will coat a weapon in something like silver to get the same effect, we may wish to obtain a supply." He considers, "As for magical healing, I think it would be best to defer to others on whether we have enough of that."
Talking about silversheen, 250 gp a bottle, will coat a single weapon or 20 units of ammo, makes them behave as if they were silver for DR purposes
For silver ammunition, it would actually be cheaper to just get those made while we're in town. silver arrows are 41 GP for a bundle of 20, 161 for the masterwork version
I've still got the wand, a few potions and scrolls, but they're all of the lowest ability, as for myself, I can cast a few moderate spells but my calling was to protect good people with just causes to tavel the world from evil and undead.
Bastion purchases a few bottles of silversheen and several vials of holy water, along with a bundle of silver bolts for his crossbow. "If everyone is prepared, let us move out."
You all make sure you are prepared for the journey south to find the city of the undead as legend seems to have it it is guarded over by a dragon but no one in the area can say they have actually seen this dragon or the city of the undead. No one can tell you how long it will take to get there but they say there is road leading to it. They tell you to take the non used left branch a couple days south.
SO you set our prepared as much as you can be. As you enter the desert it is the same as before. You follow the way to the box canyon where some of yo have been to before just to make sure that nothing remained there. As you set into the canyon you all can see the remains of the encampment you knew to be there. As you check out the remains of this camp you can see that they had left in a hurry. This makes you wonder. Why did they leave in a hurry? What threat to them was great enough to send them scurrying away? Maybe there is clue in all of this.
You search the remains and then search them again but you do not find any clues as to where they went or why. You did find 500gp in a mix of coins. The tattered remains of some tents you take as a way to keep some of the harsh sun off of you as you return to the caravan route heading south.
Soon you are back on your way south. Three days later to are at the split in the road. The clear path leads off the the right but you can see where there is a roadway to the left that has not seen any travel for a long time. You gather your self up and set foot upon the left road.
