“As if I’d be friends with such a scoundrel,” Gin said, scowling. “Now, let us inside quickly,” she snapped, wrapping an arm around Cinder’s shoulders. “I need to get to the apothecary. Little Geoff’s caught a cough, and now he’s getting a skin condition on top of that. If I don’t get the boy something quick, the missus will have my head on a pike.”

Vruuk grunts his disapproval, but doesn't waste the breathe for favor motioning for the duo to dip off to the side into some wall shadows as well. If need be, he wasn't above scurrying into some side alley, or climbing onto and off to the side of the same 2nd story building to avoid the window.

Sorry guys, got a little caught up.. here I go..
Cinders wraps himself in a cloak, doing his best to pretend being a gnome. (Performance: 11). Once his disguise is ready he will turn to Vignar telling the dog to follow him (Animal Handling: 10). When they get to the gate, Cinders waits paitiently, allowing Gin and Vent to do the talking until Gin mentions Geoff having a cough, Cinders gives his best impression of a sick and feeble cough. (Performance: 16)
The guard looks from the gnome to what he believes is a small gnome child and take a step backwards. "Move along than... but be quick.. we don't need a plague to add to the list of the problems here in Sleepy Timbers." He will say motioning them into town, lifting the butt of his spear and shooing them away. A moment later he would turn his attention back to Veng. "So about my money... Do you have it or are we going to have a problem... You said you left earlier this morning that you had some money coming in... that you could pay me back... so where is it?" The guard begins to step closer as the other guard that is still on the platform begins to take notice that there may be a situation forming that he was not planning for.
(sorry I missed this post and was waiting to see what happed. I am a failure :P )
The guard will take the coins in his hand and give you a really hard look, sizing you up trying to decide if you are telling the truth. A few seconds feels like an eternity as his eyes move from Veng back to his open hand containing the coins. As he closes his hand a smile spreads across his face. "That will do for now friend... but I expect the other seven gold the next time I see you" he says with his voice lowered. "Next time you choose to gamble... make sure you have the money to cover your loses... a lot of folks would have locked you up or worse..." The scruffy looking middle aged man will say taking a few steps backwards. "You are just lucky you happened to be rolling dice with such a nice guy like myself... now go on and get out of here." He says as he clanks his way back up to the platform. the town tabard of sleepy timbers doing little to stifle the sound of his chainmail as he leaves you alone.
Both bugbears manage to quickly flatten their backs to the building the voice was coming from. Less than a second later they can both hear someone approach the window and looking up they can see the bottom of an older womans head poking out from the second floor. "I know I heard someone out here... you kids better knock it off" she says much quieter since she cannot find anyone around in the alley below. She then turns and goes back in the house.
(all of you are now in the city. remember that the city is not technically off limits or hostile to your kind, but there are a large number of people within the town that are... percentage wise however you are more likely to run into people that don't care about you than ones that hate you... that being said.. you all do stick out quite a bit because outside of the orphanage, most the populace in this town and surrounding area are primarily dwarves, humans, half-elves, and a few elves... with humans being the most common by far.)
So all of you are now inside the city but the bugbears are pretty far away from the changeling, goblin, and kobold.
Once inside the town, you all realize that it is a fairly busy place. There are four main roads running through town that all meet up at a huge town square with a large weeping willow tree in the center. Next to the center of town is a large church with a few other smaller churches nearby. There are also a number of shops selling a variety of wares and a tavern here in the heart of the Sleepy Timbers. The bar that you are trying to find is actually across town in one of the lower class residential areas of town. As you make your way through the town (either down the main roads or back alleys) you notice some of the houses and businesses are a little more run down and less well kept. Once you get close to the bar that Brunt told you about (the one thats name was on the napkin), you see a kobold emerge from a small hole in the street out front of the tavern with a sack on his back and a shovel in his hands. He gently slides the manhole cover back over the hole and makes his way inside the tavern after tossing the dirty sack in a refuse pile not far from the door to the bar. The bar is fairly plain looking, it has a simple wooden sign hanging near a single door. There are no windows of any kind on the front of this small building, only signs advertising beer, ale, and gambling. ....
Veng manages to move silently between buildings and alleys without anyone noticing, moving to the refuse pile and quickly grabbing the soggy soiled bag. Taking the bag and moving around the side of the building, the changeling is able to search the sack and remain hidden in the shadows. As he opens the sack he nearly throws up at the smell that hits him in the face like a strong punch. Sticking his hand into the bag, it feels like a thick sludge.... you quickly determine after dumping out the bag that the bag contains primarily mud, poop, small bones, a few silver and copper coins, and small pieces of garbage that combined to form a kind of plug that you think were probably removed from a sewer by the kobold..
(Veng finds 10 silver and 30 copper pieces)
Cinders sticks close to Veng until spotting the kobold while moving between buildings, stopping in the street as the kobold makes his way into the bar. A moment later while the kobold stands in awe at another of his kind, a man pushing a cart full of vegetables yells at the Kobold. "Woah, sorry buddy!" before nearly running over the small hooded figure. "I didn't see ya there at first, where are your parents, you look too small to be out here by yourself? Are you lost?" The older man says with a smile, wiping his dirty calloused hands on his common pants and moving around the kart towards the kobold as a few other people in the area look towards Cinders after hearing the man yell out.
(@Wrecks Didn't forget, but the less people know Vruuk and Pok'im is running about /in/ the city still the better. Never know when bully boy might wrangle up a larger gang, or if there being about might call in to question if they've been to the house after the 'fire'.)
Vruuk breathed a sigh of relief, and then motion for Pok'im to follow him through the alleys and rooftops. Now and then, the elder bugbear is given pause and appears distant staring at certain paths: only to quickly shake out of it. He starts to slow altogether when the duo reach the more rundown side of town. If only at any insistence from Pok'im does he pick back up the pace. Otherwise, Vruuk is more skittish and wary as they continue. "

Performance to see if Cinders can keep up his disguise: 10
Keeping as much of his body as possible obscured by the cloak as he can, Cinders points in the direction of Gin, "Yeah my ma da is just over there, he is taking me to get some medicine."
With that he lets out a wracking cough and scurries back to where Gin is hiding.
Insight 5 does he actually know the man I'm pretending to be? Is he actually owed money or is this a shakedown.
*edit*
"Did a little work tonight. Going to get paid now. Here's 3 gold for now" Veng tosses the gold to the guard hoping itll get them in.
Veng looks the man up and down and has no idea if the guard is telling the truth or not but the changling can tell the man wants some money...
